Arc Raiders alternatives with friendlier PvE or co-op gameplay

For a friendlier replacement, Deep Rock Galactic is the closest structural fit: it keeps cooperative exploration, resource gathering, dangerous environments and an escape at the end of a mission without player combat in its cited core description. Choose Helldivers 2 for the strongest four-player, third-person objective shooter, or Warhammer 40,000: Darktide for class roles and relentless melee-and-ranged horde fighting.

What Arc Raiders is—and what a friendlier replacement must change

ARC Raiders is described by its developer as “a multiplayer extraction adventure, set in a lethal future earth, ravaged by a mysterious mechanized threat known as ARC.” You enter the surface to scavenge valuable loot, survive the machines and deal with other raiders before attempting to extract. That combination creates PvPvE pressure: the environment can kill you, but another player can also take advantage of a fight, steal your route or arrive at the extraction point first.

That is why ordinary lists of cooperative shooters are not automatically useful Arc Raiders alternatives. A suitable game needs to preserve at least some of the scavenging, traversal, teamwork or escape tension while removing the part of the experience you are trying to avoid. The three recommendations below each remove player-versus-player combat, but they replace the extraction loop in different ways.

The official ARC Raiders site listed a “PvE Toggle Beta Test” for October 13–20, 2026. Those dates describe a limited, time-specific test; they do not establish a permanent PvE-only mode. If you are searching for “Arc Raiders without PvP,” treat that test as an event to verify in the current game client rather than as a standing product feature.

Deep Rock Galactic: the closest structural match

Why it fits the extraction-adventure mindset

Deep Rock Galactic preserves the parts of Arc Raiders that usually attract players to the genre: you enter a dangerous environment, search for valuable resources, coordinate with a small team and then try to get out. Its official description calls it a “1-4 player co-op FPS featuring dwarven space miners, procedurally-generated destructible environments, and endless hordes of alien monsters.” The caves are not static corridors. Mining can open routes, create shortcuts or expose you to a new wave of creatures, so navigation and resource decisions matter during the mission.

The key difference is the source of danger. The cited core description presents a cooperative player-versus-environment game rather than a mode in which another human squad can ambush you. You still have to watch ammunition, movement and the timing of your retreat, but a failed run is not the result of an opposing raider taking your loot. That makes it the strongest answer for readers who want “games like Arc Raiders but PvE.”

How the four classes change teamwork

Four distinct classes give each teammate a recognizable job. The class system is more explicit than a generic shared loadout: a group can divide responsibilities while moving through destructible terrain and responding to alien hordes. The practical result is that communication remains important even after PvP is removed. One player can focus on opening a route, another on controlling a threat, and another on keeping the team supplied or mobile, depending on the chosen class and mission needs.

This is a better fit if you enjoy discussing who carries which capability before launching. It is less suitable if your favorite part of Arc Raiders is silently stalking another squad, reading human behavior or deciding whether to risk a contested loot area. Deep Rock Galactic replaces that uncertainty with environmental hazards, procedural layouts and creature attacks.

Where the resemblance ends

  • Perspective: It is a first-person shooter, so the camera and spatial awareness differ from Arc Raiders’ third-person scavenging.
  • World structure: Missions take place in procedural caves rather than a single surface landscape built around persistent scavenging routes.
  • Threat model: The cited description emphasizes alien monsters and teamwork, not hostile-player mind games.
  • Progression information: The cited sources do not establish a specific progression model, so do not buy it expecting a particular account, weapon or economy system.

Who should choose it

Pick Deep Rock Galactic when your priority order is cooperative exploration first, resource collection second and combat third—or when you want the closest available co-op extraction shooter feeling without PvP. It is also the safest recommendation for a mixed-skill group because the core premise is built around helping teammates through a shared environment rather than competing with them for the same exit.

Helldivers 2: the best four-player mission shooter

Why its third-person perspective matters

Helldivers 2 is presented by PlayStation as a “frenetic third-person co-operative team shooter.” That camera position makes it the most natural choice if you want to retain a third-person view while moving from Arc Raiders’ PvPvE encounters to fully cooperative missions. You can see your character and equipment in a way that feels closer to Arc Raiders than Deep Rock Galactic’s first-person presentation.

The structure is objective-based rather than a freeform loot-extraction sandbox. You deploy with a squad of up to four, complete mission objectives and coordinate equipment against alien threats. The experience is therefore more legible: the team’s immediate question is how to complete the assigned task, not whether to keep searching for one more valuable item before attempting an extraction.

Stratagems and coordinated loadouts

Powerful support equipment, referred to as stratagems, gives the squad a planning layer before and during a mission. The interesting decisions are about coverage: which tools help the team deal with a particular threat, which player carries a needed capability and when the squad should spend a limited tactical option. That creates cooperation without requiring classes in the same way as Deep Rock Galactic.

For players who want explosive set pieces and a clear four-person team identity, this is the strongest recommendation. The trade-off is that the game does not reproduce Arc Raiders’ scavenging economy or the suspense of deciding whether another player is nearby.

Friendly fire is still unfriendly

Removing PvP does not make every failure gentle. Friendly fire means a teammate can injure you, especially when the squad uses powerful area attacks in a crowded fight. Higher difficulty can also be punishing. A group looking for relaxed cooperative play should agree on communication and positioning before escalating difficulty; otherwise, the main source of frustration simply shifts from enemy raiders to accidental team damage and overwhelmed objectives.

Who should choose it

Choose Helldivers 2 if your ideal replacement is a third-person, four-player mission shooter with dramatic equipment and a strong objective loop. It is a weaker choice when your non-negotiable requirement is persistent scavenging, a large loot haul or a dedicated extraction economy. The cited PlayStation listing confirms the US storefront price shown above, but it does not establish cross-play details or a particular progression system, so verify those points for the platforms your group uses.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide: the class-and-horde option

What it does better than the other alternatives

Darktide is built around online cooperative horde combat, class roles and a mixture of melee and ranged fighting. Its appeal is intensity: the team has to hold together while large numbers of enemies pressure the group, and each class contributes a different role to that survival problem. The cited listing also identifies cross-platform multiplayer, which can matter more than an exact feature match when friends own different systems.

If the part of Arc Raiders you value most is the sensation of being outnumbered and relying on teammates to cover a weakness, Darktide can deliver that feeling more directly than a resource-gathering game. The focus is combat rhythm and role synergy rather than surveying a landscape for loot.

Why it is not an extraction analogue

Darktide is the weakest match for exploration, scavenging and atmosphere. The cited material describes a class-based shooter against hordes, not a surface expedition in which collecting resources and finding an escape route are the central decisions. It also does not state a squad cap, progression details or a specific extraction system, so those should not be assumed from the Arc Raiders comparison.

Its gore is substantially heavier than the other recommendations. That is not a minor cosmetic distinction: players seeking a calmer, more welcoming PvE environment may find the visual tone less friendly even though human-versus-human combat is absent.

Who should choose it

Choose Darktide when role-based combat, melee impact and cross-platform co-op matter more than exploration. It is the right answer for someone asking for “friendlier PvE gameplay” in the sense of no opposing players, but not for someone specifically seeking Arc Raiders’ scavenging loop.

Choosing among the three by the feature you miss most

If you miss extracting with a team

Start with Deep Rock Galactic. Its cave missions combine resource collection, environmental traversal, hostile creatures and a deliberate return from the objective area. The setting and camera differ, but the run still has a beginning, a dangerous middle and a pressured way out.

If you miss third-person shooting and squad spectacle

Choose Helldivers 2. Its up-to-four-player structure and third-person presentation keep the group visible on screen, while stratagems provide memorable moments that require coordination. Accept that the mission objective, not a growing backpack of loot, is the organizing principle.

If you miss class identity and close-quarters pressure

Choose Darktide. The cooperative problem is how complementary roles survive a horde, with melee and ranged combat sharing the spotlight. Do not choose it expecting a close recreation of surface scavenging or extraction tension.

If your main requirement is zero player combat

Deep Rock Galactic is the clearest fit from the cited descriptions. Helldivers 2 is also PvE-focused, but friendly fire and high difficulty can create a harsher learning curve. Darktide is co-op-focused and omits a PvP feature from the cited listing, while its heavier gore may conflict with the reason you want a friendlier game.

If your group has different platforms

Darktide is the only recommendation in the cited material explicitly identified as having online co-op and cross-platform multiplayer. The available evidence does not establish cross-play for Deep Rock Galactic or Helldivers 2, so confirm the current platform rules before buying for a mixed-system group.

What “friendlier PvE” can and cannot mean

Removing hostile players eliminates ambushes, loot contests and the social uncertainty of deciding whether another squad is trustworthy. It does not remove risk. Deep Rock Galactic still uses alien hordes and dangerous terrain; Helldivers 2 retains friendly fire and punishing difficulty; Darktide is intentionally intense and graphically violent. Decide whether you want less competition, less stress, less gore or simply a game that lets friends cooperate. These recommendations solve those problems differently.

There is also a difference between a PvE game and a PvE extraction game. A true extraction loop normally makes what you carry out important and asks you to balance greed against the chance of losing the run. Deep Rock Galactic comes closest to that decision pattern through mining and mission escape. Helldivers 2 and Darktide are better understood as structured cooperative missions: you win by completing the objective and surviving the encounter, not by recreating every part of an extraction economy.

Price and availability caveats

The price figures are storefront observations from October 17, 2026, not permanent prices. Deep Rock Galactic was listed at $29.99 on Steam US. Helldivers 2 was listed at a $39.99 standard price on PlayStation US. The Darktide page displayed a sale price in Australian dollars, and a US price was not captured; check the store for your country and edition before purchasing. Regional taxes, discounts, bundles and platform differences can change the amount you pay.

Platform availability and cross-play policies can change independently of a game’s core design. The only cross-platform claim established here is the cited Darktide listing’s identification of online co-op and cross-platform multiplayer. Treat all other platform assumptions as unconfirmed until the relevant storefront shows your systems and desired multiplayer configuration.

A practical decision checklist

  1. Define the unwanted element. If it is hostile players, all three recommendations move you toward cooperative play; if it is stress or gore, evaluate the specific trade-offs rather than treating “PvE” as synonymous with relaxing.
  2. Choose your camera. Helldivers 2 keeps third-person shooting; Deep Rock Galactic is first-person; the cited Darktide listing does not specify its perspective.
  3. Choose your session shape. Pick Deep Rock Galactic for procedural cave expeditions, Helldivers 2 for up-to-four-player objectives, or Darktide for class-based horde missions.
  4. Check the group’s systems. Verify storefront, edition and cross-play support for every player, especially when your friends are not on the same platform.
  5. Set expectations about extraction. Only Deep Rock Galactic is presented here with the strongest combination of resource gathering, environmental exploration and a return escape. The other two are alternatives to the combat and teamwork, not one-for-one replacements for every extraction mechanic.
  6. Recheck live information. Prices, platform listings and the dated ARC Raiders PvE Toggle test can change. Confirm the current store page and in-game mode selection on the day you decide.

Bottom line

For most players searching for Arc Raiders alternatives, start with Deep Rock Galactic: it removes player combat while retaining cooperative traversal, resource gathering, danger and an escape from the mission. Select Helldivers 2 when third-person, four-player objectives and powerful team equipment are more important than loot extraction. Select Darktide when class roles and relentless horde combat are the priority, and accept its heavier gore and weaker exploration match. The temporary October 13–20, 2026 ARC Raiders PvE Toggle Beta is not evidence of a permanent PvE-only mode, so these remain the dependable choices for a consistently cooperative experience.
