What T-FLEX CAD is

T-FLEX CAD is a hybrid computer-aided design product combining 3D modeling with drafting and drawing production for mechanical design. It supports 2D and 3D design, conceptual sketches, reverse engineering, tolerancing inspections, rapid prototyping, and downstream manufacturing. Parametric variables and relationships can propagate changes through designs, associated parts, and their attributes. Assembly tools cover bottom-up and top-down methods, configurations, and simulated motion. Sheet-metal, mold, weldment, piping, cabling, surface-modeling, and assembly tools are included. Express Analysis provides first-pass stress analysis; advanced analysis is a separate product. The software imports and exports many formats, including DWG, DXF, STEP, IGES, Parasolid, ACIS, JT, STL, OBJ, IFC, and files from major CAD systems. It runs on Windows and Linux through Wine. A free Student Edition and 30-day evaluation trial are available, while commercial pricing requires a request.

Who it suits

T-FLEX CAD suits mechanical designers, manufacturers, and teams exchanging data across many CAD formats. Students can use the free edition for noncommercial work, subject to its restrictions.

What it does well

  • Hybrid 2D and 3D modeling
  • Assembly, sheet-metal, and surface tools
  • Broad import and export format support
  • Parametric relationships update related design elements
  • .NET API supports add-ons and automation

What to know first

  • Student files cannot work with commercial T-FLEX CAD
  • Student edition restricts printing and data exchange
  • Advanced analysis requires separate T-FLEX Analysis
  • Commercial pricing is available on request
