Sherlock Forensics Recover is Windows software for examining drives, disk images and RAID arrays. It rebuilds RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, 10 and JBOD, plus nested RAID 50 and 60, and measures recovered file lengths to check layouts against file-system structures. The software reads NTFS, FAT, exFAT, ext, XFS, Btrfs, ZFS, APFS and HFS+, and handles raw dd, E01, Ex01, VMware and Hyper-V images. It does not write to the source drive or let recovered files be saved there. Recovered files carry a SHA-256 fingerprint and a record of their origin. It can open BitLocker volumes with a passphrase or recovery key, and LUKS volumes with a passphrase; it does not bypass encryption. The free edition can browse, preview and export files and create raw or E01 images. Pro costs 295.00 USD per once, a one-time payment, and adds deleted-file recovery, RAID reconstruction and other functions. The listed Windows 10 or 11 64-bit installer is 3.1 MB; direct physical-drive reading requires elevation. Deleted data on many modern SSDs may be erased quickly and become unrecoverable by software.

Who it is for

The maker describes the free software as intended for examiners, IT teams and people dealing with a lost drive or broken array. It suits Windows users who need to inspect supported file systems, images or RAID layouts.

What is good

  • Rebuilds listed standard and nested RAID levels.
  • Supports a wide range of file systems.
  • Does not write to the source drive.
  • Free plan allows browsing, previewing and exporting.

What to know first

  • Available for Windows 10 or 11 64-bit.
  • Physical-drive reading requires elevation.
  • Air-gapped use may require WebView2.
  • Modern SSD deletions may be unrecoverable.

Verdict

Sherlock Forensics Recover combines RAID and disk-image examination with source-drive protections and file integrity records. Note the Windows and runtime requirements, and that deleted SSD data may already be beyond software recovery.
