What Bilis is
Bilis stores and searches application logs and traces through a web viewer, API, or self-hosted deployment. It accepts OTLP/HTTP logs and traces in JSON or protobuf, plain JSON records, and Sentry SDK envelopes over HTTP. The viewer searches log bodies and filters by time, project, service, and severity; text matching is case-insensitive and whole-word only. Traces appear as span waterfalls, with trace IDs linking them to related logs, and users can tail logs live or export archives. Bilis can ingest Claude Code telemetry, and an assistant can search logs and open traces through a read-only MCP connection. Logs and spans are stored in OpenTelemetry-compatible ClickHouse tables. Hosted records are retained for 30 days. The Free plan costs nothing and includes 3 projects and 5 members per team, 100,000 log records plus spans per day, and 30-day retention. Self-hosted costs nothing and runs on the user's hardware without an allowance or usage meter. Bilis v1 does not include alerting, user-defined dashboards, saved searches, eBPF collection, S3 tiering, ClickHouse replication, or OTLP over gRPC.
Who it suits
Bilis suits teams running production software who want to operate observability on hardware they own or use a hosted service. Its self-hosted option has no usage meter, while hosted users should account for the 30-day retention period.
What it does well
- Supports OTLP/HTTP, plain JSON, and Sentry SDK envelopes.
- Trace waterfalls link to logs through trace IDs.
- Live log tailing and archive export are available.
- Self-hosted plan has no allowance or usage meter.
What to know first
- Hosted records are retained for 30 days.
- Text matching is whole-word only.
- No alerting or user-defined dashboards in v1.
- Successful ingest response means data is queued, not durably written.

Verdict
Bilis provides log and trace search with hosted and self-managed deployment choices. Consider its retention, search behavior, and v1 omissions when deciding whether it covers your operational needs.
