AppLovin vs. Meta Stock in 2026: Growth, Scale, and Risk Compared

Neither stock is an automatic buy: AppLovin pairs faster recent growth with greater business and platform concentration, while Meta offers far larger consumer and advertising reach alongside heavy planned investment and Reality Labs losses. On the October 6, 2026 valuation snapshot, AppLovin also had the lower displayed forward P/E, but that estimate-based multiple alone does not establish which stock is cheaper or likely to perform better.

This comparison uses the companies’ Q2 2026 results, for the quarter ended June 30, and valuation data dated October 6, 2026. It is a dated comparison, not a price target or personal recommendation; subsequent earnings, share prices, and forecasts can change the picture.

How do the businesses differ?

AppLovin sells advertising technology into a concentrated market

AppLovin’s advertising solutions serve advertisers in the mobile-app ecosystem, particularly gaming. Its Q2 filing says substantially all revenue came from advertiser spending on AppLovin Ads; the former Apps Business is classified as discontinued operations. That makes the current investment case especially tied to advertising performance in mobile apps rather than a broad portfolio of consumer platforms. AppLovin’s Q2 2026 Form 10-Q

Meta owns a large consumer platform and an advertising business

Meta’s Family of Apps includes Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp, and other services. It also operates Reality Labs, a separate business whose investment and losses affect the consolidated company. Meta’s scale gives it a direct relationship with a very large audience and advertisers, while its results reflect both the profitable app family and the costs of developing its other businesses.

What do the latest results show?

Measure AppLovin (APP) Meta Platforms (META)
Q2 2026 revenue $1.924 billion, up 53% year over year $60.801 billion, up 28% year over year; advertising revenue was $59.363 billion
Q2 2026 profit measure Net income: $1.267 billion. Adjusted EBITDA: $1.614 billion, a company-defined non-GAAP measure. Family of Apps operating income: $23.394 billion. Reality Labs operating loss: $4.619 billion.
Q2 2026 free cash flow $863.3 million $784 million; the release also reported $30.116 billion in property and equipment purchases for the quarter.
Disclosed near-term outlook or investment Q3 revenue guidance: $2.055–$2.085 billion; adjusted EBITDA guidance: $1.710–$1.740 billion, with an 83% margin. The EBITDA measure is non-GAAP. The FY2025 filing anticipated approximately $115–$135 billion in 2026 capital expenditures to support AI efforts and the core business. No Q3 result is included in this comparison.
October 6, 2026 valuation snapshot Closing price: $278.78; forward P/E: 15.49. Forward P/E: 22.97; a matching closing price is not stated in the captured StockAnalysis snapshot.

Company-reported Q2 figures and AppLovin’s Q3 guidance are from the companies’ releases: AppLovin Q2 2026 results and Meta Q2 2026 results. Meta’s 2026 capital-spending outlook is from its FY2025 Form 10-K. The valuation figures are StockAnalysis snapshots for APP and META.

These figures are not interchangeable measures of operating performance. AppLovin’s adjusted EBITDA is a non-GAAP company measure; Meta’s segment operating income is not the same metric. Free cash flow is also a single-quarter result, and Meta’s reported property and equipment purchases show why that quarter should not be treated as a measure of normalized cash generation.

Which company has the stronger growth case?

AppLovin’s latest reported revenue growth was faster, and its Q3 guidance implies further sequential revenue growth if achieved. That supports a case for investors who believe its advertising technology can keep gaining business and producing strong returns. The key uncertainty is whether such recent growth can persist in a narrower market with substantial dependence on mobile-app advertising.

Meta’s growth comes from an enormous advertising operation and a large audience base. In June 2026, its average Family daily active people were 3.60 billion, up 3% year over year; Q2 Family ad impressions rose 14%, while average price per ad rose 12%. Together, those measures show that recent advertising growth reflected both more impressions and higher average prices, rather than audience growth alone. They do not guarantee that either trend will continue.

How should investors read the valuation gap?

On the October 6 StockAnalysis snapshot, AppLovin’s displayed forward P/E was lower than Meta’s. Forward P/E compares a share price with forecast earnings, so it depends on both market price and earnings estimates. The two figures here were not independently calculated using one shared forecast model, and a lower multiple is not by itself proof of undervaluation. The snapshots do not establish fair value, expected return, or a guaranteed upside for either stock.

A useful next step is to test what future earnings assumptions each price requires. For AppLovin, that means asking how much growth and profitability an investor expects from its concentrated advertising business. For Meta, it means weighing the earnings power of its app family against infrastructure spending and losses elsewhere. The supplied snapshot cannot answer those questions with an intrinsic-value estimate.

What could go wrong with each investment case?

AppLovin: concentration and dependence on platform rules

AppLovin’s filing identifies reliance on a small number of platforms, including Apple, Google, and Meta, and notes that Apple and Google have significant discretion over policies and the data available to advertising networks. Changes affecting targeting, measurement, or ad effectiveness could therefore matter to AppLovin’s business. The filing says privacy changes had so far had a relatively muted aggregate effect on results; that is a description of experience to date, not evidence that future policy changes will be harmless or that a negative change is imminent. Meta: spending with uncertain returns and continuing Reality Labs losses

Meta’s planned 2026 capital spending is intended to support AI efforts as well as its core business. Spending may strengthen products, infrastructure, or future capabilities, but the forecast is not proof that AI investments will generate returns sufficient to justify their cost. Reality Labs’ Q2 operating loss is a separate reminder that not every part of the company is currently profitable. Investors need to consider both the strategic rationale for long-term investment and the possibility that returns take longer than expected or fall short. Meta Q2 2026 results Meta FY2025 Form 10-K

Which stock may fit your priorities?

  • Consider researching APP further if faster recent growth and the lower displayed forward P/E appeal to you, and you are comfortable with greater exposure to mobile-app advertising, gaming, and third-party platform decisions.
  • Consider researching META further if you prioritize a much larger consumer platform and broad advertising reach, and can accept substantial planned capital investment and continuing Reality Labs losses.
  • Compare both against your own assumptions about future earnings, cash generation, investment returns, time horizon, and tolerance for business risk. Recent growth rates and a single valuation snapshot cannot make that decision for every investor.

As of October 9, 2026, this comparison does not include later Q3 results; the financial-data source listed October 28, 2026 as Meta’s estimated next earnings date. Any results or market changes after the stated data dates could alter the comparison. Past growth does not guarantee future results.
