The accessory evidence fits months of reports about a next-generation tablet. It does not establish the product name, launch date, price, chip, display technology or final design.

What Apple’s website actually revealed
9to5Mac reported on October 15, 2026 that Apple’s French regulatory website listed Smart Folio model A3632. The number does not match an existing Apple product, making it a credible sign that Apple is preparing a new accessory for hardware that has not yet been announced.
The current sixth- and seventh-generation iPad mini models use the same Smart Folio. A separate folio model number could therefore indicate changes to the tablet’s dimensions, camera position, speaker layout or other physical details that affect case fit. It is still indirect evidence: an accessory listing is not an Apple announcement of an “iPad mini 8.”

The material figures are different, too
Apple’s regulatory documentation, as reported by 9to5Mac, lists at least 3% recycled material and at least 6,610 milligrams of rare-earth elements for A3632. The previous folio documentation listed at least 9% recycled material and 3,947 milligrams of rare-earth elements. Those figures describe the accessories, not the rumored tablet’s construction or environmental performance.
What current reports say about the rumored tablet
MacRumors reported on October 12, 2026 that code associated with the next-generation iPad mini used the identifiers J510 and J511 and pointed to an A19 Pro chip. Separate code reporting summarized by MacRumors has pointed to an A20 Pro instead. The processor is therefore unresolved, and neither chip has been confirmed by Apple for a new iPad mini.

OLED and refresh rate remain unsettled
OLED is widely rumored, including reports that Apple evaluated panels made by Samsung. The refresh-rate story is less consistent: one report expects a 60Hz display, while Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said Apple tested both 60Hz and 120Hz options. There is no confirmed refresh rate or final panel specification.
Other reported design work
Reports also describe thinner bezels, a front-facing camera moved to a landscape orientation, a redesigned speaker system and work toward improved water resistance. These are reported development possibilities, not specifications Apple has published.

Is the iPad mini 8 coming in October 2026?
Not confirmed. Bloomberg reporting, as summarized by MacRumors, has placed a possible unveiling in late October 2026, with October 27 suggested as one forecast date. A forecast is not a schedule, and Apple has not confirmed an event, product name or release date.
The Smart Folio listing establishes that Apple filed documentation for a new accessory. It does not prove that the tablet will be called iPad mini 8, that it will launch in October, or that the accessory and tablet will reach stores together.

What the current iPad mini offers
Apple’s current iPad mini specification page lists an 8.3-inch Liquid Retina display with a 2266-by-1488 resolution at 326 pixels per inch. It uses an A17 Pro chip with a six-core CPU, five-core GPU and 16-core Neural Engine. The tablet has USB-C, supports Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil (USB-C), and includes a 20W USB-C power adapter in the box.

Will an existing iPad mini case fit?
Do not assume it will. The A3632 folio number is the clearest physical-design clue, and the fact that the sixth- and seventh-generation models share a folio does not guarantee compatibility with a future model. Even a small change to thickness, camera placement, speaker openings or button positions can make an older case unsuitable.
Wait for Apple’s official dimensions or a confirmed model number before buying a case specifically for the rumored tablet. If you are buying for a current iPad mini, check whether the listing explicitly identifies the sixth- or seventh-generation model rather than relying on a generic “iPad mini” label.

Buy the current model when you need a small tablet now
The current iPad mini has published specifications, established accessory support and a known USB-C setup. It is the lower-risk choice for work, reading or travel when an unannounced product’s timing and price would create a problem.

Wait when the rumored changes matter more than certainty
Waiting makes sense if an OLED panel, a newer-generation chip, thinner bezels, a landscape camera or better water resistance would materially change how you use the tablet. The trade-off is that the processor, refresh rate, price, launch date and case fit remain unsettled.
