Apple has announced a new Apple Home Collection built around accessories made with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric. The headline doorbell is the LG Video Doorbell Wired—not an Apple-manufactured device. Apple supplies the Home app, Siri controls and ecosystem integration, while LG makes the hardware.
Apple announced the collection on October 13, 2026, with availability beginning in December 2026. The doorbell is announced for the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom, but regional launch timing and pricing should be checked again before ordering.

What Apple actually launched
Apple Home Collection is a group of smart-home accessories that Apple says can be set up by tapping an iPhone, controlled through the Apple Home app or Siri, and used without a separate manufacturer app or account. The collection includes LG indoor and outdoor cameras, the wired LG Video Doorbell Wired, a smart deadbolt, LG and Schneider Electric thermostats, and temperature sensors.

That distinction matters if you are looking for an “Apple doorbell.” The product announced for the front door is LG hardware presented as part of Apple’s Home experience. Apple has not announced that it manufactured the camera or doorbell itself.

LG Video Doorbell Wired: announced features
Two cameras for visitors and packages
The doorbell has two cameras. Apple says the forward-facing camera records at 2.5K resolution, while a second downward-facing camera records at full HD resolution. The split view is intended to show both a visitor’s face and parcels left below the doorbell. A built-in spotlight is also included.
These are specifications supplied in Apple’s launch announcement, not independent image-quality or reliability test results. Apple has not published detailed field-of-view measurements, night-vision performance, frame rates or weather-resistance ratings in the information available for this launch.
Chimes and displays
Doorbell chimes can play through Apple HomeView, HomePod or HomePod mini. HomeView is Apple’s dedicated home display with a 7-inch screen, giving households another way to see the doorbell feed besides an iPhone, iPad or Apple TV.

Wired installation
The product name identifies it as a wired doorbell, so buyers should expect compatibility with an existing wired doorbell circuit rather than a battery-only installation. Apple has not published the complete electrical requirements, transformer specifications or a compatibility list in the launch material. Confirm those details with Apple or the installer before replacing an existing unit.
Apple Home, hubs and video history
Apple says the cameras require a home hub such as Apple HomeView, HomePod, HomePod mini or Apple TV 4K. The hub handles Home automations and camera processing within Apple’s architecture.
Apple says camera event history is available for 10 days for users with iCloud+. Eligible iCloud+ plans can also add automatic video descriptions and natural-language search. Apple has not established in this announcement which specific iCloud+ tiers support each feature, how many cameras each tier permits, or whether those limits will vary by country. Check the current plan documentation at purchase time.

Privacy and recording during Wi-Fi outages
Apple says Home camera footage and personal data are end-to-end encrypted and inaccessible to Apple, LG Electronics and Schneider Electric. According to Apple, video is processed on the customer’s home hub or in Private Cloud Compute and stored encrypted in iCloud for 10 days for iCloud+ users.
Those are Apple’s privacy claims; the launch announcement does not describe an independent audit. Apple also says built-in storage allows cameras to continue recording during Wi-Fi outages, with improvements intended to preserve detected moments. It does not specify the outage duration supported, local storage capacity or the exact recovery behavior when connectivity returns, so those details should not be assumed.

How it compares with a Ring-style purchase decision
The useful comparison is not a claim that one doorbell is universally better. It is whether the LG model fits your wiring, Apple equipment and subscription expectations.

|---|---|---|
| Installation | Wired doorbell design | Existing wiring, transformer and professional-installation requirements |
| Camera coverage | 2.5K front camera plus full HD downward camera | Field of view, night performance and package visibility at your doorway |
| Control | Apple Home app, Siri and compatible Apple home hubs | Whether your household already uses Apple devices and a supported hub |
| Video history | Apple says 10 days of event history with iCloud+ | Current iCloud+ eligibility, camera limits and export options |
| Privacy model | Apple describes end-to-end encryption and on-device or Private Cloud Compute processing | Whether Apple’s stated data practices meet your requirements |
| Availability and price | Announced from December 2026; C$349.95 in Canada and £229.95 in the UK | Final local price, stock and launch date |
The announcement reviewed here does not establish current Ring prices, subscription terms or comparative performance figures, so a fair cost or quality winner cannot yet be declared.
What about the Apple Home smart lock?
Apple also announced the LG Smart Deadbolt Lock, but it is separate hardware and is not included with the doorbell. The lock uses Ultra Wideband to detect approach for automatic unlocking with a home key on a compatible iPhone or Apple Watch. It also supports tap-to-unlock, an integrated PIN pad and a concealed backup key slot.
