It was an iPad-focused presentation introducing the M2 iPad Air, M4 iPad Pro, Apple Pencil Pro, a redesigned Magic Keyboard, and updates to Apple’s creative apps. This recap uses launch-era U.S. prices and availability; those figures are historical, not verified 2026 retail prices.
What was Apple’s Let Loose event?
Apple announced “Let Loose” in April 2024 as a special online event held on Tuesday, May 7. Its invitation artwork featured an illustrated Apple Pencil, signaling a focus on iPad hardware and creative workflows rather than iPhone, Mac, Apple Watch, or Vision Pro products.
The event introduced two new iPad Air sizes, two iPad Pro models with Apple’s M4 chip, Apple Pencil Pro, a new iPad Pro Magic Keyboard, and updates to Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro for iPad. Apple’s event archive lists the announcements at apple.com.
When and how could people watch?
The presentation began at 7:00 a.m. Pacific Time, 10:00 a.m. Eastern, 3:00 p.m. British Summer Time, and 4:00 p.m. Central European Summer Time. Apple streamed it through its event website, YouTube, and the Apple TV app. The official recording remains available on Apple’s YouTube channel.

What had been expected before the event?
Before May 7, Apple had officially confirmed only the event name, date, time, and online format. The Pencil artwork and reliable reporting made updated iPad Pro and iPad Air models, a new Apple Pencil, and a redesigned Magic Keyboard strong expectations. Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro updates were plausible but not confirmed beforehand.
Rumors about a new entry-level iPad, an iPad mini refresh, Vision Pro announcements, or unrelated hardware were speculative. Apple did not turn Let Loose into a broad hardware showcase. Contemporary timing and expectation coverage is preserved by MacRumors and its viewing guide.
The M2 iPad Air came in two sizes
Apple expanded the Air line with redesigned 11-inch and 13-inch models. Both use the M2 chip and a Liquid Retina display. The 13-inch version was the practical headline: it offered a large canvas without the iPad Pro’s starting price.
- 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB storage.
- Blue, purple, starlight, and space gray finishes.
- Wi-Fi or Wi-Fi + Cellular configurations.
- Landscape-oriented 12MP Ultra Wide front camera with Center Stage.
- Wi-Fi 6E and 5G on cellular models.
- Compatibility with Apple Pencil Pro and Apple Pencil USB-C.
U.S. launch pricing on May 7, 2024, started at $599 for the 11-inch Wi-Fi model and $799 for the 13-inch Wi-Fi model. Full specifications and launch details are in Apple’s announcement.

The M4 iPad Pro made the display the other big story
New 11-inch and 13-inch iPad Pro models introduced Apple’s M4 chip and tandem OLED Ultra Retina XDR displays. The OLED system, rather than the processor alone, is the most visible everyday distinction from the Air: it targets deeper blacks, high contrast, and demanding HDR video, photography, illustration, and media work.
- Thinner and lighter design; Apple called it the thinnest product it had made at launch.
- M4 CPU, next-generation GPU, Neural Engine, and a display engine designed for the tandem OLED panel.
- Landscape-oriented front camera.
- 12MP rear camera with adaptive True Tone flash for document scanning.
- 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB storage.
- Silver or space black finishes, with Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi + Cellular options.
- Optional nano-texture glass on selected configurations.
Apple positioned the M4 for CPU, graphics, machine-learning, and on-device AI workloads. Claims comparing its Neural Engine with every AI PC are Apple’s claims, not an independent benchmark conclusion. The 11-inch Wi-Fi iPad Pro launched at $999 in the U.S.; the 13-inch Wi-Fi model started at $1,299. Apple’s technical description is available in its M4 iPad Pro release.
Apple Pencil Pro added new controls
Apple Pencil Pro was the first Pencil with a squeeze gesture, haptic feedback, barrel-roll recognition, and an internal gyroscope for more precise tool control. It also added Find My support and a magnetic interface for pairing, charging, and storage.
It works with the new iPad Air and iPad Pro models announced in May 2024. Compatibility is model-specific, so it is not a universal replacement for older iPad Pencils. The U.S. launch price was $129, or $119 through Apple’s education pricing for eligible students, parents, faculty, staff, and home educators. Apple Pencil USB-C launched at $79.

The new iPad Pro Magic Keyboard was model-specific
The redesigned Magic Keyboard for iPad Pro was thinner and lighter and added a function row, aluminum palm rest, larger trackpad, and haptic trackpad feedback. It came in black and white.
The 11-inch version launched at $299 and the 13-inch version at $349 in the U.S. These keyboards fit the new iPad Pro dimensions and connector arrangement; they should not be assumed to work with older iPad Pro generations or the iPad Air.
Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro, and Final Cut Camera
Final Cut Pro for iPad 2
Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 added Live Multicam, allowing multiple connected iPhone and iPad cameras to be viewed and controlled in a single production. Apple also introduced Final Cut Camera as a companion capture app that provides live controls and feeds footage into Final Cut Pro. Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 requires an iPad with an M1 chip or later.
Logic Pro for iPad 2
Logic Pro for iPad 2 was announced as a free update for existing users and scheduled for May 13, 2024. Apple listed U.S. pricing for new users at $4.99 per month or $49 per year, with a one-month free trial. Logic Pro for iPad 2 supports iPads with an A12 Bionic chip or later.

Final Cut Pro for iPad 2 was announced at the same U.S. subscription price. Subscription availability, pricing, and app compatibility can vary by region and iPad generation.
Apple cut the 10th-generation iPad’s U.S. price
Apple reduced the U.S. price of the 10th-generation entry-level iPad from $449 to $349. That made it the lower-cost route into the lineup after the new Air and Pro models arrived. The reduction was reported by The Associated Press.

Which iPad made sense?
Choose the iPad Air for value and size
The Air suited school, office work, browsing, drawing, media, and general creative use. It offered M2 performance, Apple Pencil Pro support, and a 13-inch option at a lower starting price than the Pro. It was the weaker fit for buyers who specifically needed tandem OLED, 2TB storage, or the highest sustained performance.
Choose the iPad Pro for display and demanding work
The Pro made sense for users prioritizing the OLED display, M4 performance, high storage tiers, thinner design, or demanding video, graphics, music, and 3D workloads. Its premium price is difficult to justify for basic browsing, streaming, note-taking, or buyers who need macOS-specific software.
Calculate the complete ownership cost
Headline tablet prices exclude the accessories that make an iPad function like a creative workstation. At launch, an 11-inch iPad Pro ($999), Magic Keyboard ($299), and Apple Pencil Pro ($129) totaled $1,427 before tax. A realistic comparison should add the tablet, Pencil, keyboard or case, cellular service if needed, and any software subscription.
Know when a MacBook is the better choice
M4 performance did not automatically make the iPad Pro a MacBook replacement. iPadOS multitasking, external-display behavior, file management, app availability, and accessory costs remain decisive. A MacBook is the more straightforward option when the workflow requires macOS applications or a built-in keyboard and trackpad.

Owners of relatively recent iPads may see little benefit unless they specifically need Apple Pencil Pro features, the 13-inch Air, the Pro’s OLED display, M4-specific performance, or the redesigned keyboard. Check Pencil and keyboard compatibility before buying: Apple’s accessory names overlap, but the connectors and supported iPad models do not.
Bottom line on Let Loose
Let Loose was a focused iPad and creative-software event. Its most consequential choices were the two-size M2 iPad Air, the M4 iPad Pro with tandem OLED, and accessory changes that materially affected the final price. The event also lowered the entry-level iPad price to $349 in the U.S., giving buyers a broader range of launch-era options.
