Early preorder delivery estimates for Apple’s unrevealed-by-name iPhone Duo stretched into late January—about 100 days—in every region and configuration tracked by Evercore ISI. The firm described demand as “solidly out of the gate,” while cautioning that long waits can also result from limited production capacity. Apple shares gained more than 2% during the week, following a nearly 4% rise during the September iPhone launch week.
What the early delivery signal shows
Evercore ISI observed delivery dates extending to late January shortly after preorders opened. That implies customers in the regions and configurations it monitored could face roughly 100-day waits. The timing is a positive early indicator because delivery windows lengthened rather than remaining immediately available.

However, a delivery estimate is an indirect demand measure. Apple’s manufacturing capacity for the Duo has not been established publicly in this report, so the same delay could reflect a constrained launch supply, unusually strong orders, or both. January availability should therefore not be treated as confirmed unit sales.
What “solidly out of the gate” means
Evercore’s phrase describes an early preorder pace that was better than a weak or merely satisfactory launch. It is an assessment of the initial trend, not a forecast that every delayed order will ship within the same quarter or that the product will sustain that pace throughout its fiscal year.

Why the analyst raised his fiscal-2027 estimate
Gene Munster of Deepwater Asset Management said the delivery pattern increased his confidence in a 20 million-unit iPhone Duo estimate for Apple’s fiscal 2027. That is twice the 10 million-unit Street estimate he cited. Munster calculated that 20 million units would equal roughly 8% of Apple’s total iPhone unit sales in the following fiscal year.
Munster still qualified the signal because the Duo uses a new form factor. “Even factoring in supply will be tight with the new form factor, I still believe the early read is positive vs expectations,” he said. He also wrote that the long lead times suggest a fast start even though supply may be lower because of the design change.

The report places the Duo’s long waits against changing lead times for the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. Those comparisons help separate a product-specific signal from broad launch demand.

Munster estimated that as many as 20% of the previous year’s early Pro Max buyers could be waiting for the Duo. If that substitution occurs, some Duo demand would represent customers choosing a different premium format rather than entirely new iPhone buyers. The report does not establish how many buyers are switching, upgrading from older phones, or entering Apple’s lineup for the first time.

Why AAPL had its strongest week since the launch
Apple stock rose more than 2% during the week covered by the report. That followed a nearly 4% gain during the September iPhone launch week, making the latest period the company’s best week since that launch according to the report.
The market appears to have treated the delivery data and Munster’s higher unit forecast as evidence that the Duo could exceed expectations. The share move is an investor response, not independent confirmation of orders, production volume, revenue, or profit. Those outcomes will depend on final pricing, mix, manufacturing yields, shipment timing and how long the preorder backlog persists.

What is—and is not—known about the iPhone Duo
The report does not establish the Duo’s exact retail model names, storage options, price, screen specifications or release configuration. “iPhone Duo” is the designation used in the analyst coverage, not a verified list of Apple retail names. Readers should not infer a specific model or attach accessory purchases until Apple or reliable later reporting confirms the products and their compatibility.

- Track whether dates continue to move out. Persistent extensions after the opening surge would support sustained demand; rapid improvement could indicate that initial supply was the main bottleneck.
- Watch regional and configuration differences. A 100-day estimate in one option does not prove every Duo version has the same backlog.
- Compare later Pro and Pro Max data. If their lead times stabilize while the Duo remains constrained, the signal becomes more product-specific.
- Wait for shipment and sales evidence. Apple’s reported units, revenue and management commentary are needed to test Munster’s 20 million-unit fiscal-2027 scenario.

The first preorder data point is clearly encouraging: Evercore saw Duo delivery estimates reach late January and called demand “solidly out of the gate.” Munster consequently lifted his confidence in a 20 million-unit fiscal-2027 outcome, far above the 10 million-unit Street estimate he cited.
