It can be a good buy at the reported sale prices if you want a rugged Apple Watch and the included band fits—but “up to $200 off” applies to specific configurations, not every Ultra 3. TechRadar reported a Large Alpine Loop model at $599.99, down from $799, while its deal card listed that configuration at $599.97. Those prices are not confirmed checkout offers, so check the exact band, size, seller and live price before ordering. Also compare the Ultra 3 with the newer Ultra 4, which has since arrived.
What the reported Ultra 3 deals actually include
TechRadar’s October 2, 2026 deal article reported these configurations and prices. They are reported offers, not independently verified checkout prices, and retailer stock or listings may change.

| Configuration | Reported price | Reported previous price | What to check |
|---|---|---|---|
| Large Alpine Loop | $599.99 in the article text; $599.97 in its deal card | $799 | Confirm the live price and that the large band fits. |
| Titanium Milanese Loop | $699.97 | $899 | Verify the selected band and seller at checkout. |
| Ocean Loop at Best Buy | About $699 | $799 | Check availability and the exact listing. |
Best Buy search results also showed some Ultra 3 configurations at $699 with $100 savings. Band, size, seller, carrier and stock can vary between listings. Treat “up to $200 off” as configuration-specific, and compare the final price for the exact model you want rather than assuming every listing has the maximum discount.

It makes sense if you want an outdoor-ready Apple Watch
Ultra 3 combines a Grade 5 titanium case with outdoor and workout features including GPS, route and pace tools, hiking waypoints, Backtrack GPS, offline maps, heart-rate zones and training load. Apple lists a 3,000-nit peak display, 64GB of capacity and both electrical and third-generation optical heart sensors. These features make it a capable option for an iPhone user who wants a large, rugged watch for training and outdoor activities.

Map availability has regional and software requirements; Apple’s named topographic maps are for the US. Recreational scuba use is supported to 40m, but requires a dive-computer app from the App Store and an Oceanic+ subscription. Apple rates the watch for 100m water resistance under ISO 22810:2010, while cautioning that water resistance can diminish over time and advising against diving deeper than 40m.
Think twice if you want a small or phone-independent watch
The case is 49mm. Apple lists its dimensions as 49mm high, 44mm wide and 12mm deep, with weights of 61.6g for natural titanium and 61.8g for black titanium. That size and weight, plus the band included in a deal, may not suit every wrist. Try the watch or check the band’s sizing before buying.

TechRadar’s review recommends the Garmin Fenix 8 as an adventure-watch alternative for people who want a system-agnostic option. It also judges the Ultra 3 excessive for casual exercise and a poor fit for someone who does not use an Apple phone. Those are the reviewers’ buying assessments; there is no full controlled Ultra 3-versus-Fenix 8 comparison across all sports, battery and navigation conditions in the cited coverage.

How strong is it against Garmin for training?
The “Garmin-rivaling” description is best read as a product-level judgment, not proof that Ultra 3 beats Garmin at every sport or measurement. Review results differ by activity, device fit and test method.

- TechRadar’s heart-rate tests: Reviewer Matt Evans reported an average heart-rate difference of 1 bpm between Ultra 3 and a Polar H10 across his described stationary-cycle and running tests. He also compared run GPS readings with a Garmin, but the review passage gives no numerical result. He said he had not tested the Ultra 3 underwater.
- Tom’s Guide’s half-marathon test: On a relatively easy Surrey Half Marathon course, the Forerunner 970 recorded 13.15 miles and Ultra 3 recorded 13.22 miles against an official 13.1 miles. The Garmin was closer to the course distance in that test.
- Tom’s Guide’s heart-rate comparison: Against Garmin’s HRM 600 chest strap, the Forerunner 970 averaged 156 bpm and peaked at 172 bpm; Ultra 3 averaged 172 bpm and peaked at 203 bpm. The reviewer said the Apple watch often read too high and sometimes failed to read heart rate.
These are test-specific findings from different reviewers, not a universal accuracy verdict. If GPS or heart-rate performance is decisive for your sport, weigh results from the activity and conditions closest to your own rather than treating either review as a guarantee.
Battery, charging and satellite features to factor in
Apple rates Ultra 3 for up to 42 hours of normal use and up to 72 hours in Low Power Mode. Those are Apple test figures based on scripted checks involving notifications, app use, workouts, sleep tracking and defined cellular or Bluetooth connection time—not a promise of that runtime for every owner. Apple says actual results vary with use, configuration, signal and other factors. It also claims charging to 80% in about 45 minutes under its test conditions. The box includes a watch, strap and 1m Apple Watch Magnetic Fast Charger to USB-C Cable.

Apple says Emergency SOS and Find My via satellite are included at no charge for two years upon activation. Availability and connection or response times depend on location and site conditions; Find My via satellite requires a mobile plan. Emergency SOS may use satellite, cellular or Wi-Fi calling and has network and regional limitations. Cellular connectivity is built into the watch, but cellular service requires a plan.

Ultra 3 is a 2025 model, and Ultra 4 has since arrived. A discount on an older generation is not automatically the best value: compare the current prices and features of both models, as well as the Garmin watches you are considering.
