Apple says Siri Recap and Live Rewind are planned for beta later in 2026 on Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4. Neither feature is available as a finished feature now, and Apple has not announced a specific beta date. Both also require a compatible Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone; buying a supported watch alone will not provide access.
What Siri Recap and Live Rewind do
Apple groups both features under Audio Intelligence, but they serve different purposes: Live Rewind captures a short, user-requested snippet of recent speech, while Siri Recap creates a brief summary for later review.

| Feature | How it works | What it produces | What happens if you do not save it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Live Rewind | Double-press the Digital Crown to activate it. | A text snippet of the previous 15 seconds of speech. You can ask Siri about it or save it in the Siri app. | The snippet disappears from the watch about 30 seconds after its display dims. |
| Siri Recap | Opt in and set a schedule by time and/or location, or control it manually. | A brief, high-level summary of conversations—not a detailed record or transcript. | Unsaved summaries are automatically deleted after seven days. |
These details and retention periods are from Apple Support. Apple warns that generated snippets and summaries may be incomplete or inaccurate, so they are best treated as memory aids—not dependable transcripts or formal records.

How activation and privacy work
Apple says each Audio Intelligence feature is opt-in. Live Rewind starts only after a deliberate double press of the Digital Crown. Siri Recap can be scheduled by time or location, switched on or off manually, and toggled through Control Center.
Apple says Live Rewind activation produces an audible chime—even if the watch is on silent—along with a full-screen animation and a microphone indicator. That signal is an important practical distinction: activating it is not described as silent background recording.

On data handling, Apple says audio is not recorded or stored. Its Support guide says raw audio passes through a protected buffer in the S11 chip’s Secure Exclave and is immediately deleted after processing. Apple describes Siri Recap as a summary that does not identify speakers. These are Apple’s descriptions of its system, not independent verification of its implementation.
If you save a recap or Live Rewind snippet, Apple says it syncs in the Siri app with end-to-end encryption when iCloud is used with two-factor authentication and a device passcode. Unsaved items follow the separate automatic deletion periods listed above.
