If your Bee Card is not working in Apple Wallet, first identify which card you mean. Greater Manchester has a digital Bee Network travel card in Wallet, a separate physical Bee smart card, and ordinary debit or credit cards used with Apple Pay. They have different setup rules and different support routes. A physical Bee Card cannot be transferred into Apple Wallet; you must create a digital Bee Card from Wallet’s Travel Card section and load an eligible ticket.
The steps below cover the common cases: you cannot add the card, the Bee Card is not showing, a ticket will not load, the reader chooses the wrong card, an Apple Pay bank card is declined, or a physical Bee smart card fails at a gate.

Identify the card and the failure first
Many apparently similar “Bee Card not working in Apple Wallet” reports are actually different problems. Use this distinction before changing settings:
| What you have | Where it is used | Correct fix path |
|---|---|---|
| Digital Bee Card | Apple Wallet on a compatible iPhone or Apple Watch | Wallet setup, ticket eligibility and Express settings |
| Physical Bee smart card | Bee Network and Metrolink readers | Reader technique, card isolation and Bee Network customer service |
| Debit or credit card | Apple Pay and contactless readers | Issuer support, Apple Pay eligibility and bank-card troubleshooting |
Wallet cannot import the balance or ticket data from a physical Bee Card. TfGM states directly: “No, a physical Bee Card can not be added to Apple Wallet.” Buying or carrying another physical card therefore will not solve a failed Wallet setup.
#1 Best Overall

- This is a USB hot-pluggable device that complies with the CCID standard and is ideal for applications such as personal identity security authentication and online micropayments.
- This is a USB full-speed device (12 Mbps), which reads NFC tags at 106 kbps、212 Kbps and 242 Kbps, allowing faster read and write speeds and higher efficiency
- To increase the safety factor, you can choose to configure an ISO7816-3 compliant SAM card slot in the ACR122.
- Widely used in areas such as access control, electronic payment, bus e-ticketing, highway toll collection systems, network verification, logistics, and supply chain management.
Start by noting what happened at the point of failure. “Bee Card not showing in Wallet” points to the Wallet or device path; “payment declined” usually points to a bank-card issuer; and a reader that ignores a physical card needs the Metrolink smart-card procedure. Keeping those paths separate prevents deleting a valid ticket or repeatedly trying an incompatible setup.
Check device and software eligibility
TfGM’s current Bee Network guidance gives minimum requirements specifically for adding a Bee Card to Apple Wallet. They are not a universal list of Apple Pay requirements:
- iPhone: iPhone SE (2nd generation) or iPhone 11 or later, running iOS 27 or later.
- Apple Watch: Apple Watch SE (2nd generation) or Apple Watch Series 8 or later, running watchOS 27 or later.
These requirements can change as TfGM updates the service. If your phone or watch is older, or cannot install the stated operating-system version, Wallet may not offer Bee Card even though ordinary Apple Pay works. Update the device through its normal software-update screen, restart it, and check TfGM’s latest Apple Wallet guidance before trying again. Do not treat an iPhone that supports Apple Pay as automatically eligible for the Bee Network travel card.

If a menu is missing, record the exact model and software version for support instead of assuming the feature is temporarily hidden.
How to add a digital Bee Card to Apple Wallet
On an iPhone
- Open the Wallet app.
- Tap the + button to add a card.
- Select Travel Card.
- Choose Bee Card, then tap Continue.
- Choose one of the Bee Network tickets offered in Wallet.
- Complete the on-screen purchase and verification steps.
The card created by this process is a digital transit card. A physical Bee Card number, existing physical ticket or cash balance is not entered into the flow. If Bee Card does not appear under Travel Card, check the device and operating-system requirements first; repeating the same steps on an unsupported device will not make the option appear.
Let the purchase finish before closing Wallet. A cancelled or interrupted purchase screen is not proof that a usable ticket was created. Reopen Wallet and look for the Bee Card and its ticket details. If the item is absent, run the Travel Card flow again and choose a product that is actually listed.
On an Apple Watch
- Open the Wallet app on the watch.
- Tap the three-dot control.
- Select Add Card, then Travel Card, then Bee Card.
- Choose an available ticket and follow the purchase prompts.
Use the watch on the reader if the ticket was added to the watch. Adding a Bee Card to an iPhone and expecting a separate watch card to appear without using the watch’s Wallet flow can lead to confusion about which device contains the ticket. Before travelling, open Wallet on the device you intend to tap and confirm that the ticket is visible there.

“Can’t add Bee Card to Apple Wallet” usually falls into one of four categories: the card is physical rather than digital, the device is below TfGM’s minimum, the Wallet flow was cancelled before purchase completed, or the selected ticket is not offered in Wallet.
- Physical card: stop trying to transfer it. Start a new digital card from Wallet > + > Travel Card > Bee Card on iPhone, or the corresponding Wallet menu on Apple Watch.
- Unsupported device or software: verify the exact iPhone, Apple Watch and operating-system versions against TfGM’s current requirements.
- Interrupted purchase: reopen Wallet and run the Travel Card flow again. Do not assume a cancelled or interrupted screen created a usable ticket.
- Ticket missing from the list: Wallet only sells supported Bee Network products. Use the Bee Network app for ticket types that Wallet does not list.
If the card was created but is not visible when you open Wallet, check that you are looking at the device on which the purchase was completed. A Bee Card on an iPhone and one on an Apple Watch are separate Wallet items for practical use at a reader.
Do not confuse a missing tile with a missing ticket. Open the card details and check whether a valid product is shown. A digital card with no eligible ticket cannot be expected to open a gate or be selected ahead of a bank card. If the ticket was bought on one device, keep that device available until you have confirmed it at a reader.

Understand which Bee tickets Wallet supports
The Wallet Bee Card is a ticket container, not a general stored-value account. TfGM’s guidance lists these categories for purchase in Wallet:
Recommended Free Tools
| Product category | Availability in Wallet | What to do if it is not offered |
|---|---|---|
| 1-day bus | Supported where listed in the Wallet purchase flow | Use the Bee Network app for another product |
| 7-day bus | Supported where listed in the Wallet purchase flow | Use the Bee Network app for another product |
| Eligible weekend tram | Supported as the specified weekend product shown by TfGM | Use the Bee Network app if your required tram ticket is different |
| 7-day tram | Supported where listed in the Wallet purchase flow | Use the Bee Network app for another product |
| 1-day bus plus tram | Supported where listed in the Wallet purchase flow | Use the Bee Network app for another product |
| 7-day bus plus tram | Supported where listed in the Wallet purchase flow | Use the Bee Network app for another product |
| Cash value or general top-up | Not supported on the Wallet Bee Card | Use the Bee Network app or another accepted payment method |
A missing top-up option is therefore not necessarily a payment failure. If the product is outside the supported Wallet list, changing Apple Pay cards or reinstalling Wallet will not add it. Purchase the required ticket through the Bee Network app instead.
Wallet availability is product-specific, not a promise that every Bee Network fare can be stored there. Check the complete product name before paying: a listed 1-day bus ticket is not the same as an unlisted multi-day or stored-value option. If the app offers a fare that Wallet does not, use the app rather than trying to force a different ticket into the Wallet card.
Why Apple Wallet uses a Bee ticket before a bank card
Newly added Bee Cards have Express enabled by default. At a compatible reader, a valid Bee ticket is selected before a payment card. That priority is intentional: the reader should consume the eligible transit ticket rather than charge a bank card.
If you want to travel with the Bee ticket
Leave Express enabled for the Bee Card and present the iPhone or Apple Watch that contains the valid ticket. Keep separate physical contactless cards away from the device so the reader does not encounter multiple cards at once. You normally should not need to unlock the device or open a different payment card when Express is configured for the Bee ticket.

If you want to pay with a bank card instead
- Open Wallet and select the payment card you want to use.
- Open that card’s details and enable it for Express Transit (the Express setting shown by Apple).
- Open the Bee Card’s details and disable Express for the Bee Card.
- At the reader, present the device with the intended bank card selected as the Express card.
If a valid Bee ticket remains on an Express-enabled Bee Card, the reader can choose that ticket instead of charging your bank card. Changing the Express assignment is the relevant fix; deleting the Bee Card is not. Make the setting change before tapping, then check which item is marked for Express if the reader continues to choose the wrong payment method.
Keep a physical bank card, physical Bee Card and access pass apart from the iPhone or watch while tapping. Multiple contactless credentials in close proximity can produce an unexpected selection or a failed read. This separation is useful even when the Wallet settings are correct.
Apple Wallet Bee Card payment declined: separate a ticket issue from a bank-card issue
A declined debit or credit card is not the same as a Bee Network ticket being unavailable. Apple does not approve or decline cards issued by banks. Apple’s published explanation is: “Apple does not approve or decline cards for use with Apple Pay.” The bank or card issuer makes that decision.
If you are trying to add a bank card to Wallet
Check the conditions Apple lists for payment-card setup:
- Your bank or issuer participates in Apple Pay.
- The device is compatible and running supported software.
- Apple Pay is available in your country or region.
- The device has a passcode and, where required, biometric authentication enabled.
- Your Apple Account has two-factor authentication enabled.
- Apple services and your network connection are working normally.
For messages such as Could Not Add Card, Invalid Card or Card Device Limit, Apple directs users to contact the bank or issuer. The issuer can confirm eligibility, security blocks, device limits and verification requirements. Apple’s Wallet troubleshooting page cannot approve an unsupported issuer card.

If a bank card already in Wallet is declined at a reader
Confirm that the card is still supported by its issuer, that it has not expired or been frozen, and that the issuer has not placed a contactless or Apple Pay restriction on it. Contact the issuer for the decline reason. Re-adding the Bee Card will not repair a bank-card authorization failure.
If the Bee ticket is valid but the reader still asks for a bank card, check Express assignment before calling the bank. Conversely, if the bank card is the intended payment method and it alone is declined, test the issuer’s card-support route rather than changing Bee ticket settings.
Fix a physical Bee smart card that fails at a reader
Use this section only for the separate physical Bee Network smart card. Do not follow Wallet provisioning steps for a card that fails on a Metrolink or other physical-card reader.
Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

- Place the card on the reader’s touch plate below the screen, not on the display.
- Hold it still until the reader lights turn green. Removing it early can interrupt the read.
- Separate the Bee Card from other smart cards, phones, bank cards and access cards. Multiple contactless cards together can interfere with the read.
- If the card still fails, contact Bee Network customer services or visit an information and ticket office.
These steps address a physical-card reading problem only. They cannot add that card to Apple Wallet, and Wallet settings cannot repair a damaged or unreadable physical card. If the card works on one reader but not another, tell customer service the locations and the exact sequence of lights or messages.
A practical troubleshooting sequence
Work through the following order so that a payment-card decline is not mistaken for a transit-ticket problem:
- Name the card: digital Bee Card, physical Bee smart card or bank payment card.
- Check the device: for a digital card, verify the iPhone or Apple Watch model and the TfGM-required operating-system version.
- Check the product: confirm that the ticket you want is one of the products Wallet supports. If it is not, switch to the Bee Network app.
- Check the Express assignment: decide whether the Bee ticket or bank card should be used, then enable Express for that item and disable it for the other.
- Isolate physical cards: keep a physical Bee Card, bank card and access card apart when tapping.
- Classify the message: a Wallet add-card error goes to Apple and the issuer; an unavailable Bee ticket goes to the Bee Network app route; a physical-reader failure follows the Metrolink reader procedure.
- Escalate with details: record the device model, operating-system version, ticket type, reader location and exact error before contacting support.
Make one change at a time and test again. For example, first confirm that the Bee ticket is listed, then check Express, rather than deleting the card and losing the information needed to diagnose the failure. A screenshot of the error and the time and location of the tap can help the relevant support team distinguish a device issue from a reader or issuer issue.

Contact the bank or card issuer
Do this for Apple Pay card declines, “Could Not Add Card,” “Invalid Card” and “Card Device Limit” messages, or any request to verify why the issuer rejected a card. Apple cannot override the issuer’s decision.

Contact Bee Network customer service
Use Bee Network support when a physical smart card continues to fail after trying another reader, touching the correct plate and isolating the card, or when a ticket purchased through the Bee Network service does not behave as expected. An information and ticket office can also help with a persistent physical-card problem.
Use the Bee Network app
Use the app when you need a Bee Network ticket or stored-value function that Wallet does not support. Wallet’s limitation to listed ticket products is a feature boundary, not evidence that your iPhone or bank card is broken.
What changed with the Wallet feature
TfGM’s news index listed “Bee Network introduces even more ways to pay for travel, with Bee Card in Apple Wallet” on October 6, 2026. That launch context helps explain why older advice may describe only physical Bee Cards or app-based tickets. Apple’s Wallet card-adding troubleshooting page was published September 14, 2026. Because device requirements and supported products can change, check the current TfGM and Apple support instructions when a future update produces a different menu or error.

Common mistakes to avoid
- Trying to add a physical Bee Card number to Wallet.
- Assuming every Apple Pay-compatible device meets TfGM’s Bee Card requirements.
- Expecting cash value or a general top-up to appear on the Wallet Bee Card.
- Deleting a valid Bee Card when the real issue is Express selection.
- Tapping with several physical contactless cards together.
- Calling Apple about an issuer decline instead of contacting the bank.
- Using Wallet setup steps to diagnose a physical Metrolink smart-card reader.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I add my physical Bee Card to Apple Wallet?
No. TfGM says a physical Bee Card cannot be added. Create a separate digital Bee Card through Wallet’s Travel Card option.
Why is Bee Card missing from Wallet?
Check that you are using a supported iPhone or Apple Watch and the required iOS or watchOS version. Then use Wallet’s Travel Card flow and choose Bee Card.
Can I add Bee Card cash value or any top-up in Wallet?
No. Wallet supports the listed Bee Network ticket products, not cash value. Use the Bee Network app for other fares and stored-value functions.
Why is Apple Wallet using my bank card instead of my Bee Card?
Check Express settings. A valid Bee ticket is normally selected before a bank card. Enable Express for the Bee Card to use the ticket, or disable it for Bee Card and enable it for the bank card when you want to pay by card.
What does Apple Pay payment declined mean?
It is usually an issuer authorization issue, not a Bee ticket issue. Contact your bank or card issuer; Apple says it does not approve or decline issuer cards.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsMy physical Bee smart card fails at a Metrolink reader. What should I do?
Try another reader, place the card on the touch plate below the screen, hold it until the lights turn green, and keep other cards and devices away. Contact Bee Network customer service if it still fails.
Can I use the same Bee Card on my iPhone and Apple Watch?
Use the device that contains the Wallet card and ticket. The Apple Watch has its own Wallet add-card flow, so confirm the ticket is visible on the device you plan to tap.
Which Bee tickets are available in Wallet?
TfGM lists supported 1-day and 7-day bus products, the specified weekend and 7-day tram products, and 1-day and 7-day bus-plus-tram products. Availability is shown during Wallet purchase; other products belong in the Bee Network app.
The Bottom Line
First decide whether the problem involves a digital Bee Card, a physical Bee smart card or a bank payment card. Create the digital card through Wallet rather than importing a physical one, check TfGM’s current device requirements and choose a supported ticket. Use Express settings to choose between the Bee ticket and a bank card. Send issuer declines to the bank, and use the separate reader procedure and Bee Network support for physical-card failures.
