Apple TV+, the service many people still call Apple TV Plus, is now marketed by Apple simply as Apple TV. In the United States it costs $12.99 per month after a seven-day trial. Its appeal is a concentrated collection of Apple Original series, films, documentaries and specials—not the enormous licensed library offered by larger streamers.
This guide explains what the subscription includes, how it differs from the Apple TV app and Apple TV 4K hardware, what to watch by genre, the 2026 release schedule, and the least confusing way to subscribe and watch. Prices and availability below are U.S.-specific unless noted; catalogs, sports rights, ratings and release dates vary by country.

What Apple TV is—and what it is not
Apple TV+ is the familiar name for Apple’s streaming subscription; Apple’s current consumer pages call it Apple TV. The same phrase can also mean the Apple TV app or the Apple TV 4K streaming box. They are different products.
- Apple TV subscription: access to Apple Original series, films, documentaries, specials, kids programming and selected live sports.
- Apple TV app: an interface that also surfaces connected services, rentals, purchases, Apple TV Channels and your library. Apple says it connects with more than 100 video-streaming apps.
- Apple TV 4K: optional hardware. You do not need the box to subscribe.
A title appearing in the Apple TV app is not proof that it is included. Before pressing play, check whether the listing says Apple TV, another subscription, rental, purchase or channel.

- Compact without compromises: The sleek design of Roku Streaming Stick won’t block neighboring HDMI ports, and it even powers from your TV alone, plugging into the back and staying out of sight. No wall outlet, no extra cords, no clutter.
- No more juggling remotes: Power up your TV, adjust the volume, and control your Roku device with one remote. Use your voice to quickly search, play entertainment, and more.
- Shows on the go: Take your TV to-go when traveling—without needing to log into someone else’s device.
- TV, simplified: With setup that only takes minutes, a simple-to-navigate Home Screen, and an uncluttered remote control that does all you need—Roku makes it easier to watch the TV you love.
Apple’s U.S. service page describes the subscription and supported access. The Apple TV app listing explains its broader aggregation features.
Included versus usually separate
| Included with an Apple TV subscription | Usually requires separate payment |
|---|---|
| Apple Original series | Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, Prime Video, Max and Peacock |
| Apple Original Films | Third-party rentals and purchases |
| Apple documentaries and specials | Apple TV Channels |
| Selected Apple live sports | Some titles surfaced by the app but supplied by another service |
| Content licensed for your country | Titles unavailable in your region |
Is Apple TV worth paying for?
| Advantages | Trade-offs |
|---|---|
| Strong concentration of original drama, comedy, science fiction and films | Smaller overall catalog than the largest general-purpose streamers |
| Ad-free viewing under current U.S. plan terms | No broad third-party catalog included |
| Family Sharing for up to five additional family members | Regional catalogs, subtitles, ratings and sports rights differ |
| Works on Apple and many non-Apple devices | No low-cost ad-supported tier is shown in the cited U.S. offer |
Apple TV is a good fit if you want specific premium originals and are happy to subscribe for a few months, watch them, and cancel. It is a weaker fit if you mainly want older licensed shows, a traditional channel lineup or one subscription containing every major franchise.

Apple says the 10-episode fourth season premiered globally on Wednesday, August 5, 2026. One episode launched first, followed by weekly Wednesday episodes through the listed finale on October 7. Ted now coaches a second-division women’s football team. That means the season is not complete until the final weekly episode arrives; seasons 1–3 are available as complete seasons.
