If it doesn’t appear in search, try dragging it from the App Library. This places the built-in app icon on the Home Screen; it does not connect your iPhone to a TV.
Move the Remote app icon to your Home Screen

Go to a Home Screen page and swipe down from the middle of the screen to open search.

Drag it to the Home Screen page and position you want, then release.

If search doesn’t show Remote, open the App Library, locate the app, then touch and hold and drag it to the Home Screen. The iOS 27 placement steps are reported by MacRumors and corroborated by 9to5Mac. Apple also lists the Home Screen and App Library as places to open Apple TV Remote.
Connect the remote to your TV
Adding the icon only gives you a quicker way to open Remote. To use it, open the app, choose your Apple TV or supported smart TV, and enter the four-digit passcode if prompted. Apple says Control Center Remote works with Apple TV 4K, Apple TV HD, and AirPlay-compatible smart TVs. For a compatible smart TV, first add it to the Home app and assign it to a room.

Apple documents the Control Center route separately. In current iOS versions, open Control Center, tap Add Controls, tap Add a Control, then find or search for Remote and tap it. Apple documents a different Settings > Control Center path for iOS 17 and earlier.

If Remote won’t connect

Check that the iPhone and TV are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Update iOS or iPadOS on the phone and tvOS on the Apple TV.

Restart both devices, then try connecting again.

Is this a widget?
The iOS 27 method above adds the built-in Remote app icon, not a widget. Apple’s Shortcuts widget is a separate feature: it can display shortcuts that you choose to run, but it is not the documented way to move the Remote app icon. For widget setup, see Apple’s Shortcuts widget guide.
