Apple’s product push could give investors new reasons to expect growth, but it had not yet shown that it could change the company’s growth trajectory. As of October 13, 2026, Apple had confirmed its first foldable iPhone, the iPhone Duo, while a reported smart-home event was still upcoming. The investment question is whether those launches can meet expectations built into a stock Bloomberg said traded above 35 times estimated next-12-month earnings—not whether the products had already succeeded or failed.
What was confirmed—and what was still only reported
Apple announced the iPhone Duo on September 9, 2026. It is the company’s first foldable iPhone, with a 7.6-inch inner display and a 5.4-inch outer display. Apple set a U.S. starting price of $1,999, with storage options of 256GB, 512GB, 1TB and 2TB. Pre-orders were scheduled to begin Friday, October 16, and availability Friday, October 23. Those are Apple’s announced specifications and dates, not independent test results.

Apple also announced two accessories: the iPhone Duo Case, priced at $79 in the United States, and the iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand, priced at $129. Both were scheduled to be available to order starting October 16. Apple describes the case as a two-part protective case compatible with MagSafe and Qi2 charging.
The smart-home story was less certain. At the October 13 reporting cut-off, Apple had not yet held its scheduled event. Reuters, citing Bloomberg reporting, said Apple planned a smart-home hub code-named J490, an updated HomePod mini and a new Apple TV set-top box. Bloomberg’s October 13 report also referred to an Apple doorbell and thermostat. These were reports about plans, not confirmed announcements with published specifications, prices or launch dates. Reuters said Apple had not immediately responded to its request for comment.

Why the stock could need more than a product announcement
Bloomberg reported on October 13 that Apple shares were up 25% in 2026 but had been largely flat for months after reaching a record in late July. It put the stock at more than 35 times estimated next-12-month earnings, near its highest valuation level since 2007. For context, Bloomberg gave Apple’s 10-year average multiple as 24 and the S&P 500’s as 19. These are dated figures from that report, not live market data.
A high multiple raises the bar: investors are paying for substantial future earnings, so a launch can attract attention without necessarily justifying the valuation. The relevant test is whether products generate enough additional demand, revenue and profit to change expectations—not simply whether Apple releases something new.
| Measure | Figure reported | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Apple forward earnings multiple | More than 35 | Estimated next-12-month earnings; Bloomberg, October 13, 2026 |

| S&P 500 multiple | 19 | Bloomberg, October 13, 2026 |
Strong recent results, slower projected growth
Apple’s latest cited quarter was strong. For fiscal Q3 2026, which ended June 27, Apple reported revenue of $109.4 billion, up 16% year over year, and diluted earnings per share of $2.02, up 29%. CEO Tim Cook called it Apple’s “strongest June quarter ever” and said revenue grew by double digits across iPhone, Mac, Services and every geographic segment.

That result is backward-looking; the valuation debate turns on what comes next. Bloomberg reported analyst estimates of 15% annual revenue growth for fiscal 2026, ending September 30, followed by 10% in fiscal 2027 and 7.8% in fiscal 2028. These were analyst projections reported by Bloomberg, not Apple guidance in the cited materials.

How the new products could—and might not—change the outlook
The foldable iPhone is a major launch, but a costly one
The iPhone Duo gives Apple a new form factor and a large internal display, potentially offering existing customers a different reason to upgrade. Its $1,999 U.S. starting price also makes it a high-priced product, so the announcement alone does not establish how many buyers will choose it or how much it will add to revenue. Apple CEO John Ternus called it the “most transformational change to iPhone since the original”; that is the company’s characterization, not evidence of sales or market impact.
Smart-home expansion remains an unquantified possibility
A hub, doorbell or thermostat could broaden Apple’s hardware presence in the home and connect with its existing devices. But the cited reporting supplies no confirmed launch details, sales forecasts or independently verified estimate of the smart-home market opportunity. Until Apple confirms the products and their capabilities, investors cannot assess their price, compatibility or likely contribution from the information available here.

Demand and costs could complicate the growth case
Bloomberg reported, citing a Bloomberg Intelligence report, that Apple had cut component orders for some iPhone models because demand was weaker than expected. Bloomberg also said costs for components such as memory chips had contributed to price increases. Those are reported claims, not statements established in Apple’s cited announcements. If demand is uneven or component costs rise, a new product’s contribution to profit may differ from its headline price or launch attention.

The optimistic case starts with a profitable company still growing: Apple’s June-quarter revenue and earnings increased, and the company has a major new phone category plus a possible smart-home expansion. If the Duo draws buyers or new home products deepen use of Apple’s ecosystem, they could help support future growth.
The skeptical case is that a company of Apple’s size needs unusually successful launches to materially change its growth path, while its valuation leaves less room for disappointment. Peter Andersen, chief investment officer of Andersen Capital Management, told Bloomberg: “For a company of this size, you need super-hit products to move the needle on growth.” He questioned whether the upcoming products were exciting enough to create an inflection, and cited established competitors and pressure on consumers. That is Andersen’s view, not a consensus finding or proof that the launches will disappoint.
What investors can reasonably watch
- Confirmation: Whether Apple formally announces the reported home products, and what specifications, prices and release timing it gives.
- Demand evidence: Whether Apple’s subsequent results show that the foldable phone or home devices are contributing meaningful sales, rather than relying on product excitement alone.
- Growth versus expectations: How actual results compare with the analyst estimates Bloomberg reported for fiscal 2026 through fiscal 2028.
- Valuation context: Whether earnings growth supports the multiple; the October 13 figures are historical snapshots and should not be treated as current quotes.
- Execution risks: Reported demand softness and component costs, while recognizing those claims were attributed to Bloomberg and Bloomberg Intelligence rather than Apple’s cited releases.
The evidence available on October 13 supports a measured conclusion: Apple had a confirmed, expensive foldable iPhone launch and strong recent quarterly results, but the reported smart-home products were not yet confirmed, and analyst estimates pointed to slower growth after fiscal 2026. The product push could help the growth story; it had not yet demonstrated that it could reverse the deceleration or make a premium valuation easier to justify.
