What you need before installing Apple Music
Apple says Apple Music for Android runs on phones and tablets with Android 5.0 Lollipop or later. Samsung Galaxy phones run Android, but Apple does not certify every Galaxy model individually, so check your phone’s Android version and the requirements for any particular feature you plan to use.

Install the app and sign in
- Open Google Play on your Samsung phone and search for Apple Music.
- Install the Apple Music app published by Apple.
- Open the app and choose Sign In.
- Enter the Apple Account used for your Apple Music subscription. If the app initially shows a trial offer, choose Sign In rather than starting a new trial.
Apple also documents joining or sharing an Apple Music family subscription through Family Sharing on Android. Available plans and features can vary by country or region.

Cast Apple Music to Chromecast
- Connect the Samsung phone and Chromecast device to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Start a song in Apple Music and open Now Playing.
- Tap the Cast button and choose the Chromecast device.
- Start playback.
Apple cautions that casting is not supported for every type of Apple Music content and that not every Chromecast device is supported.
Use Apple Music with Android Auto
Install Android Auto, connect the Samsung phone to the car, then open Apple Music from the car display and play music. Apple’s stated version requirement is: “Android Auto requires Apple Music for Android 2.6 or later.” If Apple Music is missing from the car display, check the app version and the phone-to-car connection.

Set up lossless audio without surprises
Apple’s Android instructions require the latest Apple Music app and a wired connection to headphones, a receiver, or powered speakers. For sample rates above 48 kHz, an external digital-to-analog converter (DAC) might be needed. Apple recommends checking with the device manufacturer to determine whether a particular Android phone requires one; a DAC should not be assumed to work with every Samsung model.
- In Apple Music, open More > Settings > Audio Quality.
- Switch Lossless on or off, then select streaming and download quality.
- For lossless listening, connect compatible audio equipment by wire. Check the phone and accessory requirements if you want sample rates above 48 kHz.
Lossless streaming consumes significantly more cellular or Wi-Fi data, and lossless downloads take significantly more device storage. If a track is already downloaded and you want its lossless version, Apple says to delete the existing download, enable lossless, and download the track again from the catalog. Choose settings in light of your data allowance, free storage, and listening equipment.

Which features depend on your device or region?
Apple’s Google Play listing advertises offline downloads, Chromecast, Android Auto, SharePlay, collaborative playlists, Spatial Audio, and lossless audio. The listing also warns that availability and features vary by device, plan, country, or region. Check the specific feature you need rather than assuming every advertised option works on every Galaxy phone.
- Spatial Audio: Compatible hardware and software are required, and not all content is available in Spatial Audio with Dolby Atmos.
- Hi-Res Lossless: Requires external equipment such as a USB DAC.
- Lyrics translation and pronunciation: Available only for selected songs in selected languages and scripts.
- Chromecast: Apple says some content types and devices are unsupported.
How to decide whether your Samsung setup is suitable
- For standard listening, verify Android 5.0 or later and sign in with the correct Apple Account.
- For casting or in-car playback, check the relevant Chromecast or Android Auto requirements separately.
- For lossless listening, decide whether wired equipment suits your setup and whether higher sample rates justify checking DAC compatibility.
- Before enabling lossless streaming or downloads, account for data use and storage.
