The iPhone 16 is the smaller option, with a 6.1-inch OLED display and Apple’s A18 chip. Samsung’s Galaxy A56 5G gives you a larger 6.7-inch Super AMOLED screen with up to 120Hz refresh, plus a 5,000mAh typical battery and 45W charging support. Those specifications point to different priorities, but they do not establish which phone is faster in practice, takes better photos, or lasts longer per charge. A current U.S. price difference also cannot be confirmed from the available listings: Samsung’s March 2026 MSRP sheet marks the A56 end of life, and a comparable current iPhone 16 price is not established.
At a glance: the main differences
| Feature | Apple iPhone 16 | Samsung Galaxy A56 5G |
|---|---|---|
| Display | 6.1-inch OLED, 2556 × 1179 pixels, 460 ppi | 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED, up to 120Hz refresh |
| Chip | A18, 6-core CPU, 5-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine | Exynos 1580 |
| Rear cameras | 48MP Fusion main and 12MP Ultra Wide | 50MP main with OIS, 12MP Ultra Wide and 5MP macro |
| Front camera | Apple lists front-camera features on its specifications page | 12MP |
| Battery and charging | No directly comparable battery capacity or charging figure is established here | 5,000mAh typical battery; supports 45W charging |
| Water and dust resistance | IP68; Apple specifies up to 6 meters for up to 30 minutes under IEC 60529 | IP67; Samsung specifies up to 1 meter of fresh water for up to 30 minutes in lab conditions |
| Software and support | Apple identifies Apple Intelligence features; the cited material does not state a comparable support-duration commitment | Launch material lists Android 15 and One UI 7; Samsung states up to six OS generations and six years of security updates |
Apple’s and Samsung’s figures are manufacturer specifications, not independent comparison results. The phone that suits you depends on which features matter most; the figures alone cannot settle camera quality, everyday speed, or battery life.

Which display and size make more sense?
Choose the iPhone 16 if you want a smaller screen
At 6.1 inches, the iPhone 16 has the smaller listed display. Its resolution is 2556 × 1179 pixels at 460 ppi. If a more compact screen is your priority, choosing it over the larger A56 is a reasonable inference from the published dimensions—not a hands-on finding.
Choose the Galaxy A56 for a larger, faster-refreshing panel
The A56’s 6.7-inch FHD+ Super AMOLED display is larger, and Samsung lists refresh rates up to 120Hz. On paper, that makes it the more suitable pick if you value screen size and a higher refresh ceiling. The actual benefit depends on your use and settings.

What the chip and camera specifications tell you—and what they do not
Chip names are not performance test results
Apple lists an A18 with a 6-core CPU, 5-core GPU and 16-core Neural Engine. Samsung lists the Exynos 1580 for the A56. These are different manufacturer specifications; without comparable testing, they do not prove a winner for speed, gaming or sustained performance.
Camera resolution does not determine photo quality
The iPhone 16 has a 48MP Fusion main camera and a 12MP Ultra Wide camera. Samsung lists a 50MP main camera with optical image stabilization (OIS), a 12MP Ultra Wide and a 5MP macro camera. The A56 therefore has a dedicated macro camera in its listed rear setup, while the iPhone’s main-camera resolution is lower on paper. Megapixel counts and camera lists alone cannot establish which phone produces better photos or video.

Battery and charging: the available comparison has limits
Samsung gives the A56 a 5,000mAh typical battery capacity and support for 45W charging. Samsung also notes that a compatible charger and cable may be sold separately. The evidence here does not provide a directly comparable iPhone 16 battery capacity or charging figure, and battery capacity or charging wattage by itself does not show which phone lasts longer in everyday use.

Water resistance: IP68 and IP67 are not waterproof guarantees
Apple lists an IP68 rating for the iPhone 16 and specifies testing at a maximum depth of 6 meters for up to 30 minutes under IEC 60529. Samsung lists IP67 for the A56 and describes testing in up to 1 meter of fresh water for up to 30 minutes in lab conditions. These ratings use different stated depth conditions; neither means the phone should be deliberately exposed to water or is guaranteed to avoid damage in every circumstance.
Software and update support
Apple’s iPhone 16 specifications page identifies Apple Intelligence features. Samsung’s A56 launch material lists Android 15 with One UI 7, and Samsung states support for up to six generations of OS upgrades and six years of security updates. The cited Apple material does not provide an equivalent support-duration commitment, so these terms do not support a like-for-like comparison of promised support length. Software feature availability may vary.

Price difference: what is established in the U.S. and Australia?
United States
Samsung’s March 2026 U.S. MSRP sheet lists the Galaxy A56 at $499.99 for 128GB and $549.99 for 256GB, and marks both versions end of life. Samsung’s U.S. purchase page showed both storage versions out of stock, while its where-to-buy page showed no online sellers when reviewed. That is a dated stock observation, not a guarantee about availability today. Samsung says prices may change without notice.

Australia
Samsung’s Australian launch announcement set the Galaxy A56 RRP at A$699 for 128GB and A$799 for 256GB, with availability from March 27, 2025. Those are launch prices, not verified current offers, and they do not establish a present-day price comparison with the iPhone 16.
Prices, availability, storage options and specifications can vary by region, carrier or model. Check the seller’s current listing and the exact model before buying.
Quick Recap
Which one should you choose?
- Lean toward the iPhone 16 if the smaller 6.1-inch display fits your preference or you specifically want Apple’s listed A18-based feature set. These are spec-based considerations, not a claim of superior real-world speed or camera results.
- Lean toward the Galaxy A56 5G if a 6.7-inch display, up to 120Hz refresh, a listed 5,000mAh typical battery, 45W charging support or a dedicated macro camera matter more to you. The specifications do not prove better battery life or image quality.
- Make price the deciding factor only after checking current offers. Match the market, storage size and unlocked or carrier status, and confirm stock. The available U.S. figures do not support a current price-gap verdict.
