For most people, the best pick in Amazon’s October 6–7, 2026 sale is the 11-inch iPad Air with M4, 128GB and Wi-Fi: Tom’s Guide and Macworld reported it at $649, compared with a $749 list price. That is a discount against the current list price—not proof that every iPad is back to its former price or at an all-time low. The reported offers are US snapshots, so check the live listing, configuration and stock before buying.
Which iPad should you buy?

| 11-inch iPad Air (M4), 128GB, Wi-Fi | Most people who want a capable, full-size iPad | $649 from $749, reported by Tom’s Guide and Macworld | Costs more than the entry-level iPad |
| iPad mini (A17 Pro), 256GB, Wi-Fi | Reading, travel and one-handed portability | $599 from $699, reported by Tom’s Guide | Its 8.3-inch screen is much smaller than a full-size iPad |

Choose by how you will use it
For a dependable everyday iPad: 11-inch iPad Air
The M4 Air is the clearest recommendation for a general-purpose tablet. Macworld named it its best Prime Day buy, and Tom’s Guide describes the Air as the best tablet for most people despite modest upgrades. At the reported $649 for 128GB Wi-Fi, it combines a familiar full-size format with performance suited to everyday apps and more demanding work. Choose it if you want one iPad for browsing, video, communication and multitasking without paying Pro prices.
For travel and reading: iPad mini
The A17 Pro mini’s 8.3-inch display and compact body make it a better fit when easy portability matters more than screen area. Tom’s Guide reported the 256GB Wi-Fi model at $599, down from $699. Macworld has reported speculation about a new mini arriving soon and possibly using OLED, but Apple has not confirmed those rumors. If you need a tablet now, base the choice on the current model rather than an unannounced refresh.

For a big screen below Pro: 13-inch iPad Air
Macworld describes the 13-inch M4 Air as offering the Air configuration with a larger display. It is a sensible option for split-screen work, drawing or watching video when screen size matters more than the Pro’s premium display features. It does not have ProMotion. A keyboard case can make it more laptop-like, but check that any case is compatible with the exact iPad model you choose.
For demanding creative work: iPad Pro
The M5 iPad Pro is aimed at people who can make use of its high-end performance and display—such as those with professional creative workloads—not everyone who wants a tablet. Tom’s Guide reported the 13-inch, 256GB Wi-Fi version at about $1,399 from $1,499. If your work is mostly browsing, streaming and ordinary productivity, the Air is a more proportionate choice.

For the lowest-cost full-size option: A16 iPad
Macworld positions the standard iPad for common tasks such as browsing, streaming, email, video calls and use by children. It also notes that the A16 iPad is currently the only iPad Apple sells without Apple Intelligence support. Macworld expects a next-generation model, but that timing is not confirmed; consider waiting only if the discount on the current model is not compelling and you can afford to defer the purchase.

Apple raised iPad prices in June 2026, according to Macworld. Its October sale coverage presents retailer discounts as a way to save against those newer list prices, but the cited sources do not establish that each model has returned to its pre-increase price. Nor do they prove that the advertised prices are all-time lows. Treat “was” and “before” comparisons carefully: Which? warns that retailers sometimes use misleading reference prices and says its own deal checks examine the six calendar months before publication. That methodology applies to Which?’s checks, not necessarily to Amazon’s prices or the specific US offers here.

- Screen size: The 11-inch Air is easier to carry; the 13-inch models provide more workspace but take up more room.
