Apple Invites has been updated with three reported changes: full-resolution photo sharing in Shared Albums, photorealistic invitation backgrounds made with Image Playground, and an email link guests can use to verify their address. MacRumors and 9to5Mac reported the features on September 30, 2026; Apple has not published an app-specific release note confirming this update.

The September 30, 2026 update was reported by MacRumors and 9to5Mac. The reports describe three changes serving different parts of an event: sharing photos, designing an invitation, and verifying a guest’s email.

Full-resolution photos in Shared Albums
Shared Albums in Apple Invites can now share photos at full resolution, according to both reports. That can preserve more image detail than a reduced-resolution copy when guests contribute or view event photos. Apple’s broader Shared Albums guidance says the full-resolution capability is available on iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, and visionOS 27 or later. This is an operating-system requirement for full-resolution Shared Albums, not the baseline requirement for installing Apple Invites.

Apple announced the Shared Albums capability separately in June 2026, and its Shared Albums support guidance, updated September 17, 2026, documents the supported operating systems. That general documentation establishes OS context; it does not specify when the Apple Invites app began using the feature.

Photorealistic invitation backgrounds
The update adds the ability to create photorealistic invitation backgrounds with Image Playground, the image-generation feature integrated into Apple’s software. This gives hosts another way to make an invitation’s appearance fit an event without relying only on a preset design.
Email verification by link
Guests who need to verify their email address can use a link sent to their inbox instead of typing a verification code, the two reports say. It changes the verification step, not the invitation’s RSVP or access rules.

Who can use the update?
The Apple Invites App Store listing says the app is available for iPhone models running iOS 18 or later. That is the app’s stated baseline compatibility; it should not be read as meaning full-resolution Shared Albums work on every compatible iPhone. For that capability, Apple’s guidance specifies iOS 27 or later on iPhone and the corresponding version 27 operating systems on iPad, Mac, and Apple Vision Pro.

What is confirmed about the release?
MacRumors and 9to5Mac agree on the three features, but the available confirmation for this specific app update comes from those reports rather than an Apple-authored release note. Apple’s own support article independently documents full-resolution Shared Albums and their OS requirements, but it is not an announcement of the Invites update. The reports describe features, not adoption, performance, or usage figures.
Apple’s 2025 launch announcement described the app’s original purpose. Brent Chiu-Watson, Apple’s senior director of Worldwide Product Marketing for Apps and iCloud, said: “With Apple Invites, an event comes to life from the moment the invitation is created, and users can share lasting memories even after they get together.” That statement predates and does not address the 2026 update.
