If an Apple Invites event is not reaching guests, start with the invitation link rather than the notification. Open the event in the iPhone app, copy its current link, and send that link through a second channel such as text or email. Ask the guest to open the link directly and select View Invitation. This separates a delivery or alert problem from an invalid link, wrong recipient address, or an approval request that is still waiting for the host.
Apple Invites is link-based: the host creates an event and shares a public or contact-specific URL. A host needs an iCloud+ subscription to create an event, while guests do not need iCloud+ or an Apple Account. Availability can differ by country or region.

Check the requirements before troubleshooting
The host must have iCloud+
Apple’s Apple Invites user guide says an event creator needs an iCloud+ subscription. The event can be created in the Apple Invites app on an iPhone or through iCloud.com. If the person trying to create the event does not have iCloud+, the event cannot be created normally, so there is no invitation link to deliver.

Guests do not need iCloud+ or an Apple Account
A recipient can open an invitation link without subscribing to iCloud+. On iCloud.com, a guest who is not signed in with an Apple Account can enter an email address and verify it with a code sent to that address. Therefore, requiring the guest to buy iCloud+ or create an Apple Account is not a delivery fix.

Apple notes that Apple Invites features may vary by country or region. If the app or a particular option is missing, confirm that the feature is offered in the host’s region before changing invitation settings.
Understand what is actually sent
Apple Invites sends a link
In the iPhone app, open the event, tap Invite Guests, then copy or share the current link through email, text, Messages, or another sharing method. The recipient does not have to receive a special push alert for the invitation to work; opening the link is the important test.
Public and contact-specific links behave differently
| Link type | What it does | Best diagnostic use |
|---|---|---|
| Public link | Anyone who has the link can view and join the event. | Useful for testing whether the event opens at all or for broad distribution. |
| Contact-specific link | Apple generates a unique link intended for one guest. | Use when the invitation should be tied to a particular recipient; verify that it was sent to the intended address or phone number. |
If a guest says nothing arrived, do not rely on the original email preview or notification. Copy the current event link and send it by a different channel. Have the guest paste or tap that link directly. A successful direct opening shows that the event is available even if the first notification failed.

Use this delivery checklist in order
- Open the event on the host’s device. In Apple Invites, select the event and tap Invite Guests.
- Copy the current invitation link. Copying it again ensures that the guest receives the link currently associated with the event rather than an older message.
- Switch channels. If the first attempt used email, send the copied link by text or Messages; if it used a message, try email or another available sharing method.
- Confirm the recipient identity. Check the exact email address or phone number used for the intended guest, especially when using a contact-specific link.
- Ask the guest to open the URL directly. They should open the link in a browser or the supported Apple Invites experience, then choose View Invitation. Do not treat a missing push alert as proof that the link is invalid.
- Check the event’s access setting. If the host enabled Approve Guests, a guest may be able to submit a request but not enter the event immediately.
- Try the other access surface. The host can use the iPhone app or iCloud.com. A guest without an Apple Account can use iCloud.com with an email verification code.
- Check Apple’s service status. Before repeatedly changing local settings, look at Apple System Status for Apple Invites and related iCloud services. A current outage requires waiting for service restoration rather than editing the invitation.
Fix an RSVP that is missing or stuck on pending
Follow the normal RSVP path
After opening the host’s link, the guest selects View Invitation, chooses Going, Not Going, or Maybe, and sends the reply. Apple’s user guide states: “When guests receive the link, they can RSVP.” The response is submitted from the invitation page; a separate calendar invitation is not required for Apple Invites.
Use email verification when there is no Apple Account
On iCloud.com, a guest who is not using an Apple Account enters an email address and then types the verification code delivered to that mailbox. The guest should use the same address intended for the invitation and complete the verification flow before judging the RSVP as failed.
Understand the Approve Guests state
With Approve Guests enabled, submitting an RSVP can create a pending access request rather than an immediately accepted guest. The host must approve or deny that request. A pending status therefore can mean the guest’s action succeeded and is awaiting host approval.

If the host denies a request, Apple documents that the guest can be blocked. An unblocked or reinvited person may need a new invitation link. Send the newly generated or current link again instead of asking the guest to keep reopening a link that no longer grants access.
Do not confuse Apple Invites with iCloud Calendar
Apple Invites and iCloud Calendar invitations are separate workflows. Apple Invites is a link-based service: the host shares an event URL and the guest responds on that invitation page. iCloud Calendar uses calendar-account settings, a sender address, and a selected notification method.
| Question | Apple Invites | iCloud Calendar |
|---|---|---|
| How is the invitation delivered? | A link shared by email, text, Messages, or another method. | A calendar invitation sent from a configured account and address. |
| Where does the guest respond? | On the invitation link with Going, Not Going, or Maybe. | Through the calendar invitation workflow supported by the recipient’s calendar service. |
| Does the host need iCloud+? | Yes, to create an Apple Invites event. | Not an Apple Invites requirement; this is a separate Calendar system. |
| Can a guest without an Apple Account participate? | Yes. On iCloud.com, the guest can verify an email address with a code. | Behavior depends on the receiving calendar account and server. |
| What commonly needs checking? | Current link, sharing channel, recipient identity, approval state, and service status. | Calendar account enablement, Send From address, receiving mode, and server compatibility. |
If the missing message is an iCloud Calendar invitation rather than an Apple Invites link, use the Calendar settings instead of resending an Apple Invites URL.

Repair missing iCloud Calendar invitations
Enable the calendar account on iPhone
On iPhone, go to Settings > Apps > Calendar > Calendar Accounts and confirm that the account expected to send or receive invitations is enabled. An account that is disabled cannot deliver its calendar invitations through the iPhone.
Verify the sender and receiving mode
Apple documents that iCloud Calendar users can choose which email address invitations are sent from and whether incoming invitations arrive as Calendar notifications or email. Check the Send From address and select the receiving mode the recipient actually monitors. Also verify the invitee’s address character by character.

Account for server limitations
Not every calendar server supports every invitation feature. If the recipient uses Exchange or another CalDAV server, compatibility can change how an invitation, update, or response is handled. Phone-number invitations are supported only in China and India, according to Apple’s Calendar documentation; use an email address elsewhere.

When browser notifications are the problem
On a non-Apple PC, iCloud browser notifications require Firefox, Chrome, or Edge and permission for iCloud.com notifications. Apple says iCloud Calendar browser notifications are sent only when the user has chosen in-app invitations and updates.
If a browser alert never appears, open the invitation link directly rather than waiting for a notification. Then inspect the browser’s notification permissions for iCloud.com and make sure the selected Calendar receiving mode is in-app invitations and updates. A missing alert does not by itself prove that the invitation or RSVP was lost.
Symptoms, likely causes, and the next action
| Symptom | Likely explanation | Next action |
|---|---|---|
| The guest received nothing. | The original channel or notification did not deliver the link. | Copy the current link and send it through a second channel; have the guest open it directly. |
| The link opens but the wrong person is associated with it. | A contact-specific link was sent to the wrong address or number. | Confirm the recipient identity and send the intended guest the correct current link. |
| The guest can view the invitation but appears pending. | Approve Guests is enabled and the host has not approved the request. | Have the host approve or deny the request in the event controls. |
| The guest cannot continue without signing in. | The guest is using a flow that expects verification. | On iCloud.com, enter an email address and complete the emailed verification code. |
| An iCloud Calendar invite is missing. | The Calendar account, Send From address, receiving mode, or server may be misconfigured. | Check Calendar Accounts, Send From, notification mode, recipient address, and server compatibility. |
| No Apple Invites or iCloud alert works for anyone. | A service interruption may be affecting Apple’s systems. | Check Apple System Status before changing local settings. |
Prevent the next invitation failure
- After creating or editing an event, copy the current link from Invite Guests rather than reusing an old message.
- For a small guest list, verify every contact-specific recipient before sending.
- Keep a second delivery channel available so a link can be resent without recreating the event.
- Tell guests that they can open the link directly and, when using iCloud.com without an Apple Account, verify an email address with the code Apple sends.
- If approval is enabled, tell invitees that their RSVP may remain pending until the host approves access.
- For Calendar invitations, decide whether notifications should arrive in Calendar or by email, and keep the account and Send From settings aligned with that choice.
When to stop changing settings
If the copied link opens successfully, the guest can select an RSVP option, and the host sees a pending request while approval is enabled, the core delivery path is working. The remaining action is host approval, not another resend. Conversely, if the current link fails for multiple guests and Apple System Status reports an incident affecting Apple Invites or iCloud, local device changes are unlikely to help until the service recovers.
