Apple Intelligence in 2026 is available on iPhone 16 models and later, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, iPhone Air, iPad mini with A17 Pro, iPad models with M1 or later, MacBook Neo with A18 Pro, Macs with M1 or later, Apple Vision Pro, and Apple Watch Series 9 or later, Ultra 2 or later, and SE 3 when paired with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone. The exact feature set still depends on the chip, memory, operating-system version, language and region. Apple’s live compatibility list can change as new models and software releases arrive, so verify your specific device on Apple’s compatibility page.
Apple Intelligence-compatible devices at a glance
The baseline requirements below come from Apple’s current support documentation, checked October 13, 2026. “Compatible” means the hardware can run Apple Intelligence after the required software update; it does not mean every feature is available on every model.

Apple’s cutoff is not simply “any recent iPhone.” The supported older generation is specifically the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. The standard iPhone 15 models are not named as compatible, so buying or owning an iPhone 15 does not by itself qualify you.

The polished edges and textured back enhance grip and handling, making it easier to use during long calls, gaming sessions, or when capturing photos and videos on the move.
All iPhone 16 models and later generations listed by Apple qualify for the baseline capability. Apple’s live compatibility page includes newer iPhone 17 and 18 family models as they become available, as well as iPhone Air. Because Apple adds individual models to that page, check the exact storage and regional configuration shown for your phone rather than relying on the generation number alone.
Why the iPhone 15 distinction matters
Apple Intelligence relies on substantial on-device processing and memory. That is why the support list separates the Pro versions of the iPhone 15 generation from the regular models. If a retailer describes a phone only as “iPhone 15,” confirm whether it is the Pro or Pro Max before assuming compatibility.
Which iPads are supported?
The iPad mini requirement is specific: it must use the A17 Pro chip. Other iPads need an Apple silicon M1 chip or a later M-series generation. This includes compatible iPad Air and iPad Pro configurations, but the product label alone is insufficient because a family can contain several chip generations.
For advanced on-device models, Apple raises the bar to iPad models with M4 or later and at least 12 GB of unified memory. An M1, M2 or M3 iPad can meet the baseline Apple Intelligence requirement while lacking those newer model capabilities.

Which Macs and MacBook Neo models work?
Mac models with an M1 chip or later meet the baseline requirement. Apple’s compatibility listing covers qualifying MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, Mac mini, Mac Studio and Mac Pro models. Intel-based Macs are not included in the current baseline.
MacBook Neo is listed separately because it uses the A18 Pro chip rather than an M-series Mac chip. The compatible configuration is identified as MacBook Neo (A18 Pro); do not generalize that result to every MacBook Neo configuration if Apple later sells additional variants.
Advanced on-device models require a Mac with M3 or later and at least 12 GB of unified memory. A compatible M1 or M2 Mac can therefore run Apple Intelligence while offering a smaller set of the newest model-dependent features.

Apple Vision Pro is included in Apple’s supported device families. Apple’s live compatibility information specifies Vision Pro hardware with M2 and later for the listed capability. Apple’s September 2026 release information separately identifies an advanced on-device model on Vision Pro with M5 hardware, so baseline support and the most powerful model are not the same promise.

Use the installed visionOS version, the exact chip generation and the feature’s own requirements when checking a Vision Pro. A headset can be eligible for core Apple Intelligence functions without receiving every newer model or voice capability.
How Apple Intelligence works on Apple Watch
Supported watches are Apple Watch Series 9 or later, Apple Watch Ultra 2 or later, and Apple Watch SE 3. The watch must be paired with an iPhone that itself supports Apple Intelligence. Apple does not describe the watch as an independent Apple Intelligence computer.
Some watch functions require the paired iPhone to be nearby. If a feature is unavailable, check the iPhone model, its Apple Intelligence setup, the Bluetooth or network connection and whether the requested function is one of the phone-assisted features.
Software, language and storage requirements
Install the 27.0-generation operating system
Apple says Apple Intelligence becomes available after updating eligible hardware to iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27 Golden Gate, watchOS 27 or visionOS 27, as appropriate. The operating-system update alone cannot make unsupported hardware compatible.

Leave enough storage
Apple states that newer supported devices may require up to 14 GB of storage for Apple Intelligence. Other supported iPhone, iPad, Mac and Vision Pro models may require up to 8 GB, while Apple Watch may require up to 1.5 GB. These are Apple’s stated maximum requirements, not independent measurements, and the amount can vary by device and software release. Keep additional space free for normal system updates.
Match device and Siri languages
Apple lists English, Danish, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Norwegian, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish, Vietnamese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Japanese and Korean. The device language and Siri language must match. A language can be listed while a particular feature remains unavailable in a specific region, so language selection is necessary but not sufficient.
Why two compatible devices can have different features
Apple separates baseline eligibility from access to its newest on-device models. The following hardware is identified for the most powerful on-device model and features such as expressive voices and more advanced dictation:

Apple also notes that some server-side features have daily usage limits. Those limits can affect how often a feature works even when the device, language and region are otherwise eligible. Newer Siri AI capabilities are described as beta, so behavior and availability may change.

Region and Apple Account restrictions
Apple cautions that some features are not available in every country or region. Apple’s support page says Apple Intelligence features will not currently work on supported devices purchased in mainland China. For devices purchased elsewhere, restrictions can still depend on where you are using the device and the country or region assigned to your Apple Account. Check the current wording at Apple Support before changing regions or buying hardware for travel.
Siri AI has additional rollout limits. Apple’s September announcement says it is not initially available on iOS, iPadOS or watchOS in the European Union. Apple’s support instructions describe macOS and visionOS availability in the EU under stated English-language and Apple Account conditions. Siri AI also does not currently work when the Apple Account region is mainland China. These rollout rules are time-sensitive; consult Apple’s Siri AI announcement and the Siri AI support page for the current status.
How to enable Siri AI (Beta)
Siri AI has a separate enrollment process even on compatible hardware.
- Update the device to the applicable 27.0 operating system.
- Open Siri settings. On iPhone and iPad this is under Settings > Apple Intelligence & Siri; the wording may vary slightly by platform.
- Select Try Siri AI (Beta).
- Join Apple’s waitlist when prompted.
- When the wait is complete, leave the device connected so the Siri AI software can download.
Apple says Siri AI has its own platform, language and region conditions. A compatible iPhone can therefore show Apple Intelligence features while Siri AI remains unavailable because of location, Apple Account region, language or rollout status.
A practical compatibility check before you upgrade
- Identify the exact model. Open Settings > General > About on iPhone or iPad, or Apple menu > About This Mac on a Mac. Record the model name and chip.
- Compare the chip with Apple’s list. For iPhone, verify whether a 15-series phone is Pro or Pro Max. For iPad, look for A17 Pro or M1 and newer. For Mac, look for M1 and newer or the separately listed A18 Pro MacBook Neo.
- Check memory for advanced features. iPad M4-or-later and Mac M3-or-later models need at least 12 GB unified memory for the specified newer on-device model.
- Check the paired phone for Apple Watch. Confirm that the iPhone supports Apple Intelligence and is available nearby for phone-assisted functions.
- Confirm software, language and region. Install the relevant 27.0 release, match the device and Siri languages, and review Apple’s region notes.
- Reserve storage. Plan for Apple’s stated allowance of up to 14 GB, 8 GB or 1.5 GB depending on the device category.
Common reasons Apple Intelligence does not appear
- The model is just outside the cutoff: a standard iPhone 15, Intel Mac or iPad without A17 Pro/M1-or-later hardware is not made compatible by software.
- The update is incomplete: install the relevant iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27 Golden Gate, watchOS 27 or visionOS 27 release and restart if prompted.
- Languages do not match: set Siri and the device to the same supported language.
- Storage is insufficient: free space for the model download, then retry the setup.
- The feature is region-limited: check device purchase location, current location and Apple Account country or region, particularly for mainland China and EU Siri AI restrictions.
- The watch is disconnected: bring the paired compatible iPhone nearby and verify that Apple Intelligence is enabled on it.
- The requested function needs newer hardware: baseline compatibility does not provide M4/M3/12 GB or M5-only capabilities.
Keeping the list current
Apple’s model list, language support and regional rollout are moving targets. Apple published its major 27.0 platform updates on September 14, 2026, and continues to distinguish beta Siri AI features from generally available capabilities. Before purchasing or upgrading, compare your exact model with Apple’s live compatibility list, then read the current requirements at Apple Support. That two-step check is the safest way to avoid treating a family name, an operating-system number or a regional feature announcement as a guarantee for every device.
