It combines Siri, FaceTime, music and video playback, home controls, automations, and camera monitoring. It works with Apple Home (including HomeKit) and compatible Matter accessories. You need a compatible iPhone or iPad running the latest software to set it up and to enable multiuser support. HomeView can display up to nine camera feeds at once, while recording and recognition features depend on HomeKit Secure Video, a compatible camera, and the right iCloud+ plan. It recognizes up to six people; guests can control basic home functions without opening your personal content.
What is Apple HomeView?
Apple announced HomeView on October 13, 2026, as a central home device with a 7-inch display. Apple positions it between a smart-home controller and an everyday household screen: it can run Siri requests, play music and video, handle FaceTime calls, show camera feeds, control accessories, and trigger automations.

The device sits inside the Apple Home ecosystem rather than replacing the Home app. Your accessories, rooms, scenes, permissions, and camera settings remain associated with the shared home configured in Apple Home. HomeView provides another place to use those controls.
Because the announcement is recent, exact retail availability, regional launch details, and final pricing should be checked against Apple’s current product information. The compatibility and account requirements below are the requirements Apple has published.

Which smart-home accessories work with HomeView?
Apple Home and HomeKit accessories
HomeView controls accessories that are supported by Apple Home, including devices originally certified for HomeKit. Apple lists lights, locks, cameras, thermostats, blinds, and other accessory categories as supported examples. On a product box or listing, look for Apple’s “Works with Apple Home” compatibility label rather than assuming that a device with a generic smart-home app will appear in HomeView.
Matter accessories
HomeView also supports compatible Matter devices. Matter is an industry standard intended to let one accessory work across multiple smart-home platforms. A Matter label alone is not a guarantee that every feature will be exposed in Apple Home: the device must support the relevant Matter device type and feature set, and Apple Home must support that implementation.
Matter pairing still follows Apple’s privacy controls. A Matter accessory that works with several platforms does not give those platforms automatic access to your Apple Home data; you authorize it through the platform where you add it.

- Confirm the listing says “Works with Apple Home” or identifies Apple Home/HomeKit support.
- For Matter products, check the exact Matter category and functions, not just the Matter logo.
- For cameras, verify support for HomeKit Secure Video if you need recording, activity notifications, recognition, or search.
- Check whether the feature you need is available in your country and language; Apple says HomeView features vary by region and language.
- Keep the accessory’s firmware and Apple devices current so pairing and feature support match the manufacturer’s requirements.
Does HomeView require an iPhone or iPad?
Yes, for initial setup and multiuser support. Apple’s published requirement is: “Apple HomeView setup and multiuser support require a compatible iPhone or iPad running the latest software.” This is a functional requirement, not merely a recommendation.

Full product functionality may be limited or unavailable.
A personalized HomeView experience also requires an Apple Account and membership in the shared home in the Home app. Someone who is not a member of that home can use the guest controls described below, but will not receive the same personal experience.
Setup sequence
- Update the setup device. Install the latest software available for your compatible iPhone or iPad.
- Sign in. Use the Apple Account that belongs to the person configuring the home.
- Join or create the shared home. In the Home app, confirm that the account is a member of the home containing the accessories you want to control.
- Connect HomeView. Follow the on-screen setup process and select the intended home and rooms.
- Invite household members. Add people through the Home app if they need recognized, personalized access.
- Configure cameras separately. Add compatible cameras to Apple Home and enable HomeKit Secure Video if you want cloud recording and related analysis.
If you do not have a compatible iPhone or iPad, Apple’s stated setup requirement means you should not expect to complete HomeView’s setup or activate multiuser support. Availability of individual features can also vary by region and language.
How many cameras can HomeView show?
HomeView’s Home Camera face can stream up to nine videos simultaneously. That is a display capacity for live views; it is not the number of cameras you can install, record, or analyze.
For example, a home with more than nine cameras can still organize those cameras in Apple Home, but HomeView cannot show every feed on one screen at the same time. You would select the feeds or view a smaller group.

Live streaming versus recording
Apple Support distinguishes basic camera streaming from HomeKit Secure Video. An Apple Home-compatible camera can stream in the Home app. HomeKit Secure Video adds recording and activity notifications when the camera and plan qualify. Therefore, a camera may provide a live view without providing recorded clips, searchable history, or recognition.
What camera intelligence adds
With compatible cameras and an eligible iCloud+ plan, Apple says HomeView can support recognition of people, familiar faces, pets, packages, and vehicles. It also supports video descriptions and natural-language search for HomeKit Secure Video recordings. These features require setup with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad.
The Apple Intelligence requirement applies to configuring these AI-assisted capabilities. It is separate from the basic ability to view a compatible live camera stream.

You do not need to confuse live viewing with cloud recording. | iCloud+ plan | HomeKit Secure Video camera allowance | What this means |
|---|---|---|
| 50GB | One camera | One camera can use the Secure Video recording service under Apple’s listed allowance. |
| 200GB | Up to five cameras | Up to five eligible cameras can use Secure Video under the listed allowance. |
| 2TB | Unlimited cameras | Apple lists no camera-count limit for Secure Video at this storage tier. |
| 6TB | Unlimited cameras | Apple lists no camera-count limit for Secure Video at this storage tier. |
| 12TB | Unlimited cameras | Apple lists no camera-count limit for Secure Video at this storage tier. |
These are Apple Support’s published allowances, accessed in 2026, and Apple notes that limits and features can change. “Unlimited” refers to the Secure Video camera allowance for the listed plan; it does not increase HomeView’s maximum of nine simultaneous live feeds.
Choosing a plan by use case
- One camera: The 50GB allowance covers one camera if you want Secure Video recording.
- Two to five cameras: The 200GB allowance is the listed tier for up to five cameras.
- More than five cameras: Apple lists 2TB, 6TB, and 12TB as unlimited-camera tiers for Secure Video.
- Live view only: If you only need a live stream and not Secure Video recording or activity notifications, Apple’s support distinction means the iCloud+ camera allowance is not the deciding feature.
How does HomeView support multiple people?
Apple says HomeView “Recognizes up to six people and delivers a personalized experience for each one.” The six-person figure is a recognition and personalization limit, not a statement that only six people may ever be invited to a home.
For a person to receive their supported personal content, Apple says their paired iPhone or iPad must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network, recently unlocked, and available for HomeView to recognize them. Recognition therefore depends on both enrollment and the person’s device and network state.
Adding household members
- Make sure each person has a compatible, up-to-date iPhone or iPad.
- Ensure each person uses an Apple Account and is a member of the shared home in the Home app.
- Invite or confirm the person in the Home app’s home-member settings.
- Have the person use the paired device on the same Wi-Fi network as HomeView and keep it recently unlocked during recognition setup.
- Test a supported personal request, such as access to that person’s own content, while HomeView is recognizing the device.
The exact content that can be personalized depends on Apple’s supported services and on regional and language availability. Recognition of a person does not change the camera-count limits or the permissions assigned to that person in the Home app.

Can guests control HomeView without seeing personal information?
Yes. Apple says guests and unrecognized users can control accessories, check the weather, set timers, and play music without accessing personal information. This makes HomeView usable in a shared room while keeping recognized users’ supported personal content separate.
What guests can do
- Control compatible accessories such as lights, locks, thermostats, blinds, and other devices the home permits.
- Check weather information.
- Set timers.
- Play music.
What guest mode is designed to prevent
Guest access is designed to avoid exposing personal information belonging to recognized users. An unrecognized person does not receive the personalized experience associated with another household member. Access is still limited by the home’s accessory permissions, so guest behavior should be tested with the specific locks, cameras, scenes, and automations installed in your home.
Where and when will Apple Home accessories be available?
Apple announced an Apple Home Collection containing cameras, thermostats, and a lock developed with LG Electronics and Schneider Electric. Apple’s newsroom release says the collection will be available starting in December 2026, with select accessories beginning in early 2027.
The announcement does not establish every model, country, price, or launch date. Verify the exact accessory model, Apple Home or Matter certification, regional availability, and price before purchasing. A collection launch does not make every accessory available in every market at the same time.
How should you compare HomeView with another smart display or hub?
Compare the functions that affect your home rather than relying on screen size or brand ecosystem alone. These are the decision points that determine whether HomeView fits your setup:
| Comparison point | Questions to answer |
|---|---|
| Accessory standards | Does the hub support Apple Home/HomeKit, Matter, or both? Are the exact devices and features supported? |
| Camera viewing | How many live feeds can appear simultaneously? HomeView’s published maximum is nine. |
| Recording and cloud limits | Does the service record clips, send activity notifications, and support recognition? What camera allowance applies to each storage plan? |
| Setup hardware | Is a phone or tablet required? HomeView setup and multiuser support require a compatible, current iPhone or iPad. |
| Recognized users | How many people receive personalization? HomeView recognizes up to six people. |
| Guest privacy | Can unrecognized people control the home without seeing personal content? |
| Regional support | Are the desired languages, services, accessories, and camera features available where you live? |
| Total cost | Include HomeView, accessories, installation, and any recurring iCloud+ plan needed for recording. |
HomeView troubleshooting: common problems and fixes
An accessory does not appear
- Confirm the product carries the “Works with Apple Home” label or is a compatible Matter device.
- Check that you added the accessory to the same shared home used during HomeView setup.
- Update the accessory firmware and Apple devices, then retry pairing.
- For Matter, verify that the device type and specific feature you need are supported by Apple Home.
A household member is not recognized
- Confirm the person is a member of the shared home and uses the Apple Account associated with that invitation.
- Use the paired iPhone or iPad on the same Wi-Fi network as HomeView.
- Recently unlock the device and retry recognition.
- Check that the iPhone or iPad is compatible and running the latest software.
A camera streams but does not record
- Verify that the camera supports HomeKit Secure Video, not only Apple Home live streaming.
- Check that the iCloud+ plan has an available camera allowance: one on 50GB, up to five on 200GB, or unlimited on 2TB, 6TB, and 12TB under Apple’s listed limits.
- Confirm that HomeKit Secure Video and activity notifications are enabled for the camera.
- For recognition, descriptions, or natural-language search, complete setup with an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad.
A guest sees an unexpected personal result
Check whether HomeView has recognized the guest’s device or whether the person is signed in as a household member. Review the person’s shared-home status and test access while the device is unrecognized. Guest capabilities are limited to the functions Apple lists, but accessory permissions and supported services can affect the result.
