Apple Home’s AI camera summaries require a 2TB iCloud+ plan, which costs $9.99 per month in the U.S. Apple’s standard HomeKit Secure Video recording limits are more generous than the reported limits for AI descriptions: Apple says 2TB supports unlimited recording cameras, while MacRumors reported that AI descriptions cover one camera on 2TB, two on 6TB, and up to five on 12TB.
What Apple Home’s AI camera summaries do
Apple says the Home app can automatically generate descriptions of recorded clips from compatible Home cameras. You can search recordings using natural language, see related notifications grouped together, and find noteworthy clips surfaced in Search. Apple’s September 2026 announcement also describes viewing what is happening across a sequence of clips and searching across multiple cameras.

These are features for recorded footage, not a claim that every moment is continuously summarized. Apple’s support guide says you can enable video descriptions for each camera in Home Settings after turning on Apple Intelligence in Home. Notification grouping is a separate setting. Apple’s Home camera support guide has the current instructions.
How much iCloud+ costs, and the reported AI camera caps
Apple’s U.S. iCloud+ pricing page lists these monthly tiers. The AI camera counts in the last column were reported by MacRumors on September 14, 2026; Apple’s support guide confirms the 2TB requirement, but does not list those higher-tier camera caps.

Prices are Apple’s current U.S. monthly rates; prices and availability can differ by region. The recording capacities come from Apple’s HomeKit Secure Video guide. The AI-specific counts come from MacRumors’ September 14, 2026 report, which says Apple warns that supported camera counts and plan features can change.
Why unlimited recording does not mean unlimited AI summaries
These are separate limits. HomeKit Secure Video’s allowance determines how many cameras can save recordings to iCloud. The reported AI-description cap determines how many cameras can use the new description feature at a given plan tier. So a 2TB plan may support recordings from unlimited cameras while providing AI descriptions for only one. Do not treat the AI cap as a limit on the number of cameras that can record.

The Aqara Camera G100 requires a power adapter with DC 5V/1A output which is not included in the box. Zigbee2MQTT and comparable third-party USB dongles are not officially supported by Aqara. Full product functionality may be limited or unavailable.
MacRumors also reported that Apple One Premier subscribers are limited to one AI-description camera because that bundle includes 2TB of iCloud+. Apple Support’s current guide specifically names a 2TB iCloud+ plan as a requirement. If you are weighing a larger plan, consider whether the additional storage would be useful for your other files as well as whether its reported AI camera count fits your home.

What you need to use the feature
Apple Support’s current requirements include a compatible Home camera, a supported home hub, an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone, Apple Intelligence turned on in Home, and a 2TB iCloud+ plan. Apple names iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or an iPhone 16 model or later running iOS 27 or later. The home hub must be a HomePod (2nd generation), HomePod mini, or Apple TV 4K running the latest operating-system software.

Apple Intelligence is not available in every region or language, and usage limits may apply. Check Apple’s current Home camera support guide and camera compatibility information before relying on a particular device or feature.
What happens to HomeKit Secure Video footage
Apple says HomeKit Secure Video footage is end-to-end encrypted, does not count toward iCloud storage, and is privately analyzed by the home hub using on-device intelligence to determine whether to record it to iCloud. The Home app lets users view the last 10 days of activity. Those statements describe HomeKit Secure Video; Apple’s cited guidance does not establish that every step involved in generating AI descriptions follows the same processing path or has the same privacy properties.

How to decide which plan makes sense
- One camera needs AI descriptions: The 2TB tier is the plan Apple Support currently specifies; Apple lists it at $9.99 per month in the U.S.
- You want AI descriptions on more cameras: MacRumors reported limits of two cameras on 6TB and up to five on 12TB. Compare the increase in monthly cost with the value of the extra storage to you.
- You only need HomeKit Secure Video recording: Apple lists one camera on 50GB, five on 200GB, and unlimited cameras on 2TB and above. Those recording allowances do not tell you how many cameras get AI descriptions.
- You are missing a home hub: Apple names HomePod mini, HomePod (2nd generation), and Apple TV 4K as supported hub options. A new hub does not replace the iCloud+ requirement or change the reported AI camera caps.
Apple previewed the Home camera features on June 8, 2026, saying most iCloud+ plans would include support; its later support guide specifies 2TB. For current eligibility, the later, more specific support requirement is the relevant one.
