The visit came five days before iPhone Duo pre-orders open on October 16, but it does not establish how many units will be available or whether launch demand will outstrip supply.
What happened at Foxconn’s Zhengzhou plant
The Paper reported that Khan visited Foxconn Technology Park in Zhengzhou, Henan, on October 11, touring processes associated with iPhone Duo production as well as iPhone 18 Pro rear-camera modules, exterior-frame anodizing and chip-level sputtering. The report said Foxconn rotating CEO and business group general manager Jiang Jiheng accompanied him. The Paper’s October 12 report quoted Khan saying production was being expanded while maintaining Apple’s usual quality standards.

That is a reported description of the production ramp, not an output forecast. The Paper did not publish a production target, volume, yield rate, inventory estimate or quantified ramp schedule. The visit therefore cannot show whether launch stock will be plentiful or whether customers will face delays.
Why the hinge adds a manufacturing challenge
Jiemian News described a specialized process for finishing the foldable phone’s hinge area. According to its October 12 report, equipment scans the hinge geometry with a laser, uses a machine-learning algorithm to generate a fill plan, applies up to 25 layers of photosensitive polymer to refine uneven areas, then scans the surface again. These are reported factory-process details, not specifications Apple included in its product announcement.

Jiemian News also attributed a comment to Khan about the difficulty of combining factory scale and quality with complex product requirements. Its English rendering was: “You can see a very large factory, and you can see a very good factory, but very few factories can have both this scale and quality, while also meeting the complex product requirements we face here.” The wording is a translation reported by Jiemian, not an official Apple transcript. What Apple has confirmed about iPhone Duo and its launch
Apple announced iPhone Duo on September 9, 2026, describing it as its first foldable iPhone. The company lists a 7.6-inch inner display, a 5.4-inch outer display, an A20 Pro chip and a dual-battery architecture. These are manufacturer-announced specifications, not independent test results. Apple’s launch announcement says pre-orders begin Friday, October 16, at 5 a.m. Pacific Time in more than 70 countries and regions, with initial availability on Friday, October 23. Additional countries and regions are scheduled to follow on October 30; check Apple’s local schedule for country-specific timing.

Will iPhone Duo be in short supply?
There is not enough verified information to answer that yet. No reliable factory-capacity, workforce, output or launch-inventory statistic is available in the cited coverage. Khan’s reported statement that production was expanding does not quantify the increase or guarantee an order will arrive on launch day.
Earlier supply concerns should also be treated cautiously. A September 29 MacRumors article summarized claims from Jiemian News and other Chinese outlets, including an attributed source’s allegation that final-assembly yields were slightly above 60% as of September 17 while production settings were being adjusted. Apple did not confirm that figure in its launch announcement, and The Paper’s later account of Khan’s visit did not verify or resolve it. MacRumors’ summary is secondary reporting on those claims, not a confirmed Apple production metric.

Apple announced two device-specific accessories alongside iPhone Duo: the iPhone Duo Case, priced at $79 in the United States, and the iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand, priced at $129 in the United States. Apple says both can be ordered beginning October 16. These are announced U.S. prices and order dates; they do not confirm current retailer inventory or third-party accessory fit. Before placing an order, check your country’s availability, delivery estimate, total price and storage options, and make sure any accessory is explicitly listed for iPhone Duo.
