The 2024 13-inch MacBook Air with M3 is a compact, fanless laptop built around an 8-core CPU, a 13.6-inch display, and a 2.7-pound design. Its key buying decisions are how much unified memory and storage to configure, whether Apple’s battery estimates suit your travel needs, and whether you can accept closing the lid to use two external monitors. Apple’s specifications establish those capabilities; they do not establish independent real-world performance or battery results.
What the 13-inch M3 MacBook Air offers
Apple’s 2024 model, identified as A3113, pairs an M3 chip with an 8-core CPU—four performance cores and four efficiency cores—and an 8-core or configurable 10-core GPU. It also has a 16-core Neural Engine and 100GB/s memory bandwidth. These are specifications, not a substitute for workload-specific performance testing. Apple’s technical specifications list the hardware, while Apple’s March 2024 announcement makes performance comparisons to older MacBook Air models as manufacturer claims.

The Air is fanless, according to Apple’s launch announcement. That makes it a plausible fit for people who prioritize a thin, quiet everyday laptop, but the available specifications do not establish sustained performance under demanding workloads.
Is it portable enough for travel?
At 2.7 pounds (1.24 kg) and 0.44 by 11.97 by 8.46 inches, the 13-inch Air is sized for carrying between home, work, and school. The chassis is offered in silver, starlight, space gray, and midnight. Those dimensions and finish options are from Apple’s specification page.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. - Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
How good is the display?
The 13.6-inch diagonal LED-backlit IPS Liquid Retina display has a native resolution of 2560 by 1664 pixels at 224 pixels per inch, with a rated brightness of 500 nits. Apple also lists P3 wide color, True Tone, and support for one billion colors. These details make the panel’s size and capabilities clear, but they are not independent measurements of brightness or color accuracy.
How long does the battery last?
The battery is rated at 52.6 watt-hours. Apple claims up to 18 hours of Apple TV app movie playback and up to 15 hours of wireless web use. Those are manufacturer test figures, not promises of an individual owner’s runtime. Apple says its testing used preproduction 13-inch M3 systems configured with an 8-core GPU, 8GB of memory, and a 256GB SSD; the movie-playback test used HD 1080p content at a specified display-brightness setting. Actual runtime depends on configuration, workload, settings, and other conditions. See Apple’s technical specifications and test notes.

Can it run two external monitors?
Yes, but only with the laptop lid closed. With the built-in display active, M3 supports one external display at up to 6K resolution and 60Hz. With the lid closed, it can support a second external display at up to 5K and 60Hz. Both configurations also support the built-in screen at its full native resolution when the laptop is open. The two Thunderbolt/USB 4 ports support charging, DisplayPort, Thunderbolt 3 up to 40Gb/s, and USB 4 up to 40Gb/s, according to Apple. If your desk setup depends on two external screens while the laptop remains open, this model does not meet that requirement.

How much memory and storage should you choose?
Memory is unified and cannot be treated as a later storage upgrade. Apple lists 8GB and 16GB configurations, with options up to 24GB. Storage starts at 256GB, with 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB options. Choose based on the apps and files you expect to keep on the machine; the larger configurations are worth considering if your workload or local file library would strain the entry configuration. Apple’s configuration options are listed in its technical specifications.

The GPU configuration also varies: the M3 is available with an 8-core or 10-core GPU. Compare the exact configuration you are considering rather than assuming every 13-inch M3 Air has identical graphics hardware.
Ports, charging, and what comes in the box
The chassis has two Thunderbolt/USB 4 ports, a MagSafe 3 charging port, and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. Since both USB-C ports also handle charging and display output, a multi-device desk setup may benefit from a hub or dock, but one is not required for the laptop to work.

Is the 13-inch M3 MacBook Air worth buying?
It is a reasonable candidate if you want a light, fanless Mac laptop with a high-resolution 13.6-inch display and you can choose a memory and storage configuration that will last for your needs. Its clearest limitation for some desk users is the two-monitor arrangement: two external displays require closing the laptop lid. Buyers who need proven workload performance or dependable real-world battery estimates should seek independent tests for the specific configuration and workload, because Apple’s figures alone cannot answer those questions.

Price needs a date and configuration attached. Apple announced a U.S. launch price of $1,099 for the 13-inch M3 model in March 2024; that historical figure does not establish today’s price or value. Compare current offers only after verifying the precise memory, storage, GPU, seller, and availability. Apple’s announcement also listed the 13-inch M2 at $999 at that time, which likewise is not a current-price comparison.
