It is aimed at competitive gaming, where a powerful PC can deliver very high frame rates and low system latency matters. AOC’s announced AGON PRO AGP257FT has a 24.5-inch Full HD screen and a stated 1,000Hz native refresh rate, but it is not yet a confirmed retail purchase: AOC expects availability in Q1 2027 and has not announced a price. Those are manufacturer specifications and launch guidance, not independent test results.
What AOC has announced
AGON by AOC announced the AGON PRO AGP257FT on 30 September 2026. The company describes it as a 24.5-inch (62.2 cm) Full HD esports monitor with an oxide-based Fast IPS panel. Its stated native refresh rate is 1,000Hz, with overclocking to 1,050Hz. AOC also lists a minimum 0.3ms grey-to-grey (GtG) response time, VESA DisplayHDR 400 and hardware-based eye-comfort features. AOC’s announcement says to expect availability in Q1 2027; a price is not stated.

The 0.3ms figure is a manufacturer specification, not a complete measure of motion clarity or the time it takes an action to appear on screen. GtG response time describes pixel transitions under a stated measurement approach; by itself, it does not establish real-world performance. Independent testing of this model is not available in the cited coverage. AOC’s product manager César Acosta said the monitor was designed to remove the display as a limiting factor, but that is promotional language, not a verified performance result.
What 1,000Hz means—and what it does not
Refresh rate is how often a display can update. The interval between refreshes is the reciprocal of the rate: 1,000Hz corresponds to 1 millisecond per refresh; 500Hz to 2ms; and 240Hz to about 4.17ms. These are arithmetic intervals, not promises that a mouse click will become a visible pixel change within those times.

Frame rate is different: it is how many frames the PC renders. A 1,000Hz display does not make a game run at 1,000 frames per second (FPS), and a PC that renders fewer frames cannot provide a fresh game frame at every display refresh. NVIDIA’s latency explainer separates the input device, game processing, rendering and display into parts of the broader latency chain. Total input-to-photon latency depends on that chain, not just the monitor’s refresh interval.
Who might benefit from very high refresh rates?
Competitive players with a fast PC
A very high refresh rate is most relevant when a player competes in a fast-paced game and the computer can sustain a correspondingly high FPS. More frequent display updates can help reduce the time between updates, while higher FPS generally correlates with lower system latency. NVIDIA cautions that FPS and system latency do not have a one-to-one relationship, however; game settings, hardware and latency across the rest of the system still matter.

Players on a less powerful PC
If a system cannot render anywhere near the monitor’s maximum rate, the headline refresh rate is unlikely to be the main constraint. A lower-refresh display may be a better fit, or the money may be better spent on a faster PC, a higher-resolution screen or other priorities. The right trade-off depends on the games played and the frame rates the system can actually sustain.
Players who prioritize resolution and image detail
The AGP257FT’s announced format is 24.5-inch Full HD. That puts the emphasis on speed rather than pixel count. Someone who values sharper detail, larger-screen workspace or visually rich single-player games may prefer to compare higher-resolution monitors, even if their maximum refresh rates are lower.

Does the evidence show that everyone needs 1,000Hz?
No. NVIDIA Research’s 2019 study, “Esports Arms Race: Latency and Refresh Rate for Competitive Gaming Tasks,” examined 60Hz, 120Hz and 240Hz conditions. Its abstract reports that latency can matter less than refresh rate for some tasks. The study does not test 1,000Hz or the AOC monitor, and its task-specific findings do not establish a universal need or a perception ceiling.
NVIDIA also describes research in which system latency affected aim-trainer task completion more than displayed frame rate. That is a finding about a particular study, not a universal rule for all games or players. The reviewed sources provide no suitable population statistic for how many gamers need 1,000Hz or a guaranteed improvement from this model.

How to judge a monitor for your setup
Before choosing by the largest refresh-rate number, compare the factors that determine whether it will matter to you:
Quick wins for a faster PC:
Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →- Refresh rate and sustainable FPS: Consider what frame rates your PC can produce in the games you actually play, not just the monitor’s maximum rate.
- Resolution and screen size: Decide whether speed or image detail is the more important trade-off.
- Measured motion performance: Look for independent testing of response behavior and motion clarity; a minimum GtG specification alone cannot settle those questions.
- End-to-end latency: The monitor is one part of the system. Input devices, game processing and rendering also affect the time from action to visible result.
- Game and use case: Competitive, fast-moving games place different demands on a display than slower games or general desktop use.
- Price and availability: Compare final retail pricing and market-specific availability when they are published. AOC has not stated a price for the AGP257FT in its announcement.
PC Gamer’s 1 October 2026 report likewise notes that response-time figures do not by themselves describe real-world performance, and lists the price as to be confirmed. Treat the AGP257FT as an announced product until AOC or retailers confirm that it is available to buy.
