Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei’s 2025 compensation was reported at $18 million, while President Daniela Amodei, his sister, was reported at $16.4 million. Reuters said the figures came from a confidential IPO prospectus it reviewed; the filing had not been made public in the reporting available on October 6, 2026. Most of both packages consisted of stock and options, not salary.
What the prospectus reportedly said
Reuters reported the two executives’ 2025 compensation figures as contents of Anthropic’s IPO filing: $18 million for Dario Amodei and $16.4 million for Daniela Amodei. Those are reported totals, not annual salary figures. Reuters said stock and options accounted for most of each package, but the available reports do not provide a detailed breakdown by salary, bonus, stock award, and option award.

The distinction matters: a total compensation figure that includes equity awards is not the same as cash received during the year. Because the prospectus was confidential and had not been published in the reporting available on October 6, the underlying compensation table and its valuation assumptions cannot be checked against public filing text. Reuters reported the figures; Quartz said the filing was still confidential.

Why the $1.4 million salary figure is different
Reuters separately reported that Dario and Daniela Amodei each had their annual salary doubled to $1.4 million in July 2026. That later salary figure should not be added to or substituted for their reported 2025 compensation totals. Reuters also reported subsequent restricted stock unit grants, with conditions tied in part to continued employment or an IPO; those later awards are separate from the 2025 figures. Reuters’ report does not make the two time periods interchangeable.

How Amodei’s reported compensation compares with other tech CEOs
“Middle of the pack” is a relative description, not a universal ranking: the result depends on which executives and which compensation measure are included. In Reuters’ cited comparisons of reported 2025 totals, Dario Amodei’s $18 million was higher than the reported totals for Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai and Amazon CEO Andrew Jassy, but lower than Oracle co-CEO Clayton Magouyrk’s.
| Executive | Reported 2025 compensation | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Dario Amodei, Anthropic | $18 million | Reuters’ reported figure from Anthropic’s confidential IPO filing; mostly stock and options. |
| Sundar Pichai, Alphabet | $10.9 million | Reuters said $8.8 million was personal security. |
| Andrew Jassy, Amazon | $2.1 million | Reuters said the total mainly reflected travel and security. |
| Clayton Magouyrk, Oracle | $627.5 million | Reuters’ reported 2025 compensation figure. |
These figures are not a clean comparison of salaries or cash pay: the reported packages can include different components, including equity, security, and travel costs. Reuters also cited AFL-CIO data showing average annual compensation of $22.8 million for S&P 500 CEOs in the preceding year, a 21% increase. That is a separate population-wide average and should not be treated as a like-for-like benchmark for the Amodeis’ award-heavy reported packages.

A further complication is “compensation actually paid,” a measure Reuters reported separately for Pichai and Jassy that includes changes in the value of unvested equity. Reuters gave Pichai’s figure as $213.9 million and Jassy’s as $13.2 million, compared with their reported totals of $10.9 million and $2.1 million. The two measures answer different questions, so they should not be mixed into a single ranking. Reuters’ comparison provides the figures and qualifications.

The $18 million compensation figure does not establish Dario Amodei’s net worth. Reuters said the prospectus did not disclose the founders’ ownership stakes, so the reported annual pay cannot be used to calculate the value of their Anthropic holdings. Reuters also reported that the co-founders pledged 80% of their personal Anthropic equity to charitable causes; without disclosed stake sizes or valuation details, that pledge does not yield an individual dollar amount. Reuters reported the pledge and the absence of ownership figures.

Quartz quoted Courtney Yu, Equilar’s director of research, saying Amodei’s compensation “seems on the lower end for a company valued at $2 trillion, but it will be interesting to see how that changes once the company goes public.” Yu also said: “Founder CEOs typically own enough equity that when the company does well and the stock price increases they can just live off the wealth of the equity they already own.” Those observations concern company valuation and founder equity, not a disclosed estimate of Amodei’s personal wealth. Quartz’s October 6, 2026 report relayed the comments and described the filing as confidential.
