Anthropic is reported to have at least $518 billion in AI infrastructure commitments spread across a decade—not a $518 billion annual budget. Reuters reported the figure on September 29, 2026, based on a confidential IPO prospectus it reviewed; the prospectus had not been publicly disclosed in the reporting reviewed. About 80% of the total is reportedly non-cancelable or payable regardless of how much capacity Anthropic uses.
What the $518 billion figure means
The figure is a reported stack of long-term obligations to six partners. It is not a forecast of what Anthropic will spend in a single year, nor does it mean the full amount has already been paid. Reuters said about 80% is non-cancelable or must be paid regardless of usage, making the minimum-payment terms as important as the headline total.
The underlying prospectus was confidential, not a public filing available for independent review in the reporting. The aggregate and contract details below should therefore be understood as Reuters’ account of that document, rather than as a publicly accessible, independently reconciled ledger.
What Reuters reported for the named providers
Reuters attributed these figures and terms to Anthropic’s prospectus. They describe different kinds of obligations, so they should not be treated as interchangeable purchases of compute.

| Partner | Reported commitment | Reported timing or terms | Type of obligation |
|---|---|---|---|
| Google, part of Alphabet | At least $111.1 billion | Payment period from April 2026 to July 2033. Reuters quoted the prospectus: “If our actual spend falls short, we must pay Google the difference.” | Long-term infrastructure service obligations |
| Amazon | $110 billion | Payment period from May 2026 to April 2036; Reuters said similar shortfall-payment terms apply. | Long-term infrastructure service obligations |
| Microsoft | $31.4 billion | November 2026 to May 2033; reportedly non-cancelable except in the event of Microsoft’s uncured material breach. | Long-term infrastructure service obligations |
| Broadcom-related equipment | About $161.2 billion | Reportedly largely non-cancelable; a specific payment period was not stated in the Reuters account. | Equipment lease obligations |
The figures above do not add up to the $518 billion headline. Reuters described commitments involving six partners, but the reported amounts and terms do not provide a complete public reconciliation of all six or establish that every obligation has the same scope or accounting treatment. The remaining amount should not be inferred from this partial breakdown.
What Anthropic has confirmed about AWS and Google capacity
AWS: a ten-year commitment and up to five gigawatts
In an April 20, 2026 company announcement, Anthropic said it would commit more than $100 billion over ten years to AWS technologies and secure up to five gigawatts of capacity for Claude training and deployment. Anthropic named Graviton and Trainium chips, from Trainium2 through Trainium4, and called AWS its primary training and cloud provider for mission-critical workloads. It also said it was using more than one million Trainium2 chips at the time and described Project Rainier as part of the collaboration. These are Anthropic’s descriptions; they do not independently verify every figure Reuters attributed to the confidential prospectus.

Google and Broadcom: next-generation TPU capacity from 2027
On April 6, 2026, Anthropic announced an agreement with Google and Broadcom for multiple gigawatts of next-generation TPU capacity, expected to come online starting in 2027. Anthropic said most of this new compute would be in the United States. It described its hardware mix as AWS Trainium, Google TPUs and NVIDIA GPUs.
Anthropic has said this mix allows it to match workloads to different chips and adds resilience. Those are the company’s stated reasons for diversifying; the available announcements do not provide comparable utilization, delivered-capacity or price-per-compute figures with which to assess efficiency across providers.

How the other reported arrangements differ
Reuters also reported an xAI agreement that could lead to as much as $84.5 billion in spending on Nvidia-based computing capacity through 2029, with the arrangement described as largely cancelable on 90 days’ notice. Separately, AMD committed to buy up to $5 billion of Anthropic stock and supply AI computing capacity expected to exceed $20 billion. These are distinct reported arrangements with terms unlike the Google, Amazon, Microsoft and Broadcom obligations above; the report does not provide a full reconciliation showing how they relate to the $518 billion aggregate. They should not be added to that total as though they were confirmed components of it.

Anthropic is building capacity across different cloud providers and chip platforms as it scales Claude. Its public announcements describe rapidly growing demand as a reason for expanding infrastructure. The arrangement also connects compute supply to customer access: Anthropic says Claude is available through AWS Bedrock, Google Cloud Vertex AI and Microsoft Azure Foundry. Availability through these platforms is separate from the question of how much capacity Anthropic has reserved or what it costs.

The trade-off is financial and operational. Long-term commitments can reserve capacity when it is needed, but minimum payments can leave Anthropic owing money even if actual usage falls short. Reliance on a small number of providers also creates concentration exposure. Reuters said Anthropic’s prospectus identified a potential conflict because Amazon, Google and Microsoft can be investors, customers, cloud providers, distributors and competitors developing their own AI models.
As Reuters quoted the prospectus: “If the compute we have access to from third parties is curtailed, repriced, or terminated … our business, financial condition, and results of operations could be adversely affected.” Reuters also reported that Anthropic is moving beyond a cloud-only approach toward building its own AI infrastructure and directly leasing chips. That shift may give it more control over some capacity, while leaving the scale and terms of its reported commitments central to its financial exposure.

What the public information does—and does not—establish
- Established by Reuters’ reporting: Anthropic’s confidential prospectus reportedly described at least $518 billion in decade-long commitments, with about 80% non-cancelable or payable regardless of usage, along with the named obligations and terms above.
- Confirmed in company announcements: Anthropic has announced major AWS capacity and spending commitments and a Google-Broadcom TPU agreement, and says Claude is accessible through AWS, Google Cloud and Azure platforms.
- Not established in the available accounts: a public, fully reconciled breakdown of all six partners; comparable capacity delivered by each provider; utilization or cost per unit of compute; or a ranking of providers by cost-effectiveness.
Those gaps matter: the headline total signals extraordinary scale, but it does not by itself show how much compute Anthropic will actually consume, how the obligation mix will evolve, or whether any one provider is the cheapest or most important by capacity.
