Anthony Mackie says he plans to return to finish his work on Avengers: Secret Wars after his Broadway engagement in Macbeth, which is reported to run from February through July 2027. That means the quote points to finishing his Avengers work after the play—not necessarily starting filming then.
What Anthony Mackie said about Secret Wars
GamesRadar+, attributing the comment to a Deadline interview, quotes Mackie: “So once I finish on Broadway, I’ll go to finish up all the Avengers stuff for Secret Wars.” The outlet reports that his Macbeth engagement runs from February through July 2027, putting his return to Avengers work after the Broadway run.

The wording matters: “finish up” does not establish when Mackie began filming, how much work remains, or how long his total filming period will be. GamesRadar+ notes he may have filmed some material before the play.

No delay is confirmed by this schedule update. GamesRadar+ reports the film’s current release date as December 17, 2027. Mackie’s individual work schedule does not establish when the rest of the production will film or whether his remaining work affects the release plan.

The release date is a reported schedule as of October 7, 2026, and could change. A production update about one actor’s remaining scenes is not, by itself, evidence that the full film has moved.
What the comic connection does—and doesn’t—tell us
GamesRadar+ says the movie looks likely to draw heavily on the 2015 Secret Wars comic run. That storyline centers on Battleworld, which Doctor Doom reconstructs from pieces of different universes. This is context for the source material, not confirmation that the film will reproduce those events or every plot point.
Rank #2
Readers interested in the comics can explore the 2015 Secret Wars comics and the film’s reported background; the comic is optional background, not a guide to Mackie’s filming schedule.

How firmly is the quote established?
GamesRadar+ and ComingSoon.net both report Mackie’s post-Broadway comment and the December 17, 2027 release date. The quote and Broadway dates are attributed to Deadline’s interview; they are reproduced by those outlets, while the Deadline interview page itself was not directly accessible for verification. The exact wording here follows GamesRadar+’s reproduction.
