The post also said he had cancer and lost employer health insurance. India Today reported that it could not independently verify the account, so these details remain allegations rather than established facts.
What the Reddit post says
The post, in the employeesOfOracle community, was titled: “After 20 years and 2 years before retirement, my dad just got laid off via Email.” The poster asked, “What is he supposed to do for the next 2 years?” and said their father had cancer and “now he has no health insurance.” Those are the poster’s words, as reproduced by India Today; the reporting does not independently establish the father’s employment history, diagnosis, insurance status, or the circumstances of the layoff.
The account reportedly described the father as having worked for the same boss for 20 years. The Economic Times reported that the poster later said the father received a text directing him to check his email, and that severance amounted to 26 weeks from the last payroll date. Those details, too, are attributed to the Reddit user and have not been independently confirmed.
What is and is not verified
FAIL Blog’s retelling is based on an anonymous Reddit post. India Today, in its April 2, 2026 report, explicitly said it could not independently verify the account. The Economic Times reported the additional comment details on April 1, 2026.

The available reporting does not establish the poster’s or employee’s identity, where the father worked, what retirement system or benefits plan applied, or what happened afterward. The Reddit community name and the outlets covering the post do not establish the family’s country. Nor does this single, unverified account establish discrimination, unlawful termination, or an Oracle-wide health-insurance policy.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Why the post raises questions without answering them
The poster’s question about the next two years points to practical concerns about income, ongoing treatment, health coverage, and the timing of a planned retirement. But a post alone cannot show which benefits or legal protections applied. Those depend on details not supplied in the reporting, including location, employment terms, benefit-plan rules, coverage end dates, and eligibility for other coverage.

For that reason, the account cannot support a case-specific recommendation about insurance, retirement, or a legal remedy. Anyone facing a similar situation would need to confirm their jurisdiction and employment documents, then check coverage dates, treatment-provider access, costs, and eligibility with the relevant plan administrator or local adviser.
