What are its capacity, layout and features?
The ATM203W is compact, but its usable layout is simple rather than feature-rich. CHOICE lists one crisper, a right-side hinge and no water or ice dispenser. In its 2022 first look, CHOICE also described three adjustable glass shelves in the fridge, a freezer shelf, an internal LED light and a reversible door. Can you keep both compartments at the right temperature?
This is the main performance concern reported in the available public coverage. In February 2022, CHOICE said the design has one control governing how much cooling goes to the freezer, which can make it difficult to achieve suitable temperatures in both compartments. Treat that as CHOICE’s reported observation, not as an independently replicated result or a disclosed score from its later model test. For a unit you are considering, check actual fridge and freezer temperatures with suitable thermometers after it has stabilised; this is a practical check, not a model-specific fix.
How much space does it need?
CHOICE lists the refrigerator at 138 cm high × 55 cm wide × 61 cm deep and recommends an installation space of 143 × 65 × 66 cm. The Kmart manual gives appliance dimensions of 1372 × 545 × 610 mm and a weight of 43 kg. The manual says the appliance is freestanding only, not designed to be recessed or built in. It calls for a dry, sturdy, level floor, at least 10 cm clearance at the back and sides, 30 cm overhead, and enough room on the hinge side for the door to open. The specified ambient operating range is 16–38°C. It also says two or more people should move or install the appliance.
What energy information is available?
The published figures conflict and should not be combined into one definitive consumption estimate. CHOICE’s exact-model listing gives a 3-star label and claimed consumption of 272 kWh per year. Its 17 February 2022 first look reported that the then-current label indicated 240 kWh per year. In that 2022 article, CHOICE estimated running costs at about A$72 a year and A$720 over ten years, assuming the appliance lasted that long. This was a dated estimate based on the article’s energy claim, not a current electricity-cost quote or a guaranteed lifetime cost.
Is the ATM203W a good fit for your household?
CHOICE’s 2022 guidance described the model as a possible option for a small studio, office or secondary fridge where storage needs are modest. The same article quoted a suggested 250–380 L range for a one- or two-person household. That is a dated expert recommendation, not a universal sizing rule; the right capacity depends on shopping habits, available space and whether this would be your main fridge.

- It may suit you if you need a basic, small-capacity appliance and can verify that a particular unit cools both compartments appropriately.
- Look elsewhere if you need more storage, dedicated temperature adjustment for each compartment, crisper humidity control, a dairy compartment, or publicly available independent performance results before purchase.
What should you check before buying a used unit?
Because CHOICE lists the model as discontinued, the available evidence does not establish current stock, resale prices, replacement-part availability or present-day service arrangements. Check the specific appliance and its local support rather than assuming a used unit is still covered or straightforward to repair.
- Confirm the model and serial information on the appliance and compare it with the ATM203W manual.
- Inspect the body, seals, shelves, crisper, hinge and door operation; ask about its age and repair history.
- Check that both compartments cool properly after the appliance has run long enough to stabilise.
- Measure the appliance, installation clearances, door swing and delivery route; check its transport history and allow it to settle as directed by the manual before switching it on.
- Ask whether warranty coverage applies to that particular unit and verify local repair options directly.
How should you install and start it?
- Choose a dry, level, sturdy location that meets the manual’s clearance and ambient-temperature requirements. Do not recess or build in the appliance.
- Have at least two people move and position it. Keep it upright and follow the manual for handling and placement.
- After positioning, leave the refrigerator still for two hours before plugging it in, as directed by the quick-start guide.
- Let it run for two to three hours before adding food, or at least four hours in hot summer conditions. The manual’s control runs from COLD (1) to SUPER COOL (5); it describes 2–3 as normal for most situations and 5 as a quicker-cooling setting. Follow the complete manual for the particular appliance.
The manual identifies R600a (isobutane) refrigerant as flammable. It says servicing that requires opening covers must be done by an authorised service person and includes additional authorisation language for relevant hydrocarbon-refrigerant work in Queensland. Do not attempt refrigerant-system repairs yourself.

What did it cost when it was sold?
CHOICE’s model page lists A$429 as a historical price. Its February 2022 first look listed A$429 for white and A$449 for silver, before delivery. The same article reported delivery charges of about A$50 in metro areas and A$100 regionally for the Kmart offer it described, with no unpacking, installation or removal of an old appliance. What warranty does the manual describe?
The Kmart manual states a 24-month warranty from the date of purchase, subject to its terms and Australian Consumer Law rights.
