The Soundcore Boom 3i is a rugged Bluetooth speaker whose standout feature is designed for pool, beach and boating use: it floats upright with its sound directed upward. Its IP68 rating and maker-claimed saltwater resistance add to the outdoor pitch. It is less compelling if your priority is maximum loudness, a broad multi-speaker ecosystem or wired playback: RTINGS says the JBL Charge 6 gets louder and has somewhat more bass by default, and the Boom 3i has no AUX input.
What is the Soundcore Boom 3i?
Launched by Anker Innovations’ soundcore brand on June 18, 2025, the Boom 3i is a portable outdoor Bluetooth speaker. It weighs 780 g (27.5 oz) and measures 8.27 × 3.35 × 3.09 inches. Soundcore lists it at $129.99 on its US store as of October 5, 2026; price and availability can change. Does the Boom 3i float, and is it waterproof?
Yes, it is designed to float upright and keep its sound directed upward. Soundcore says the speaker auto-corrects its orientation while floating, including through waves. That design addresses a practical problem with floating speakers: a speaker that rolls so its drivers point into the water can sound muffled. RTINGS also highlights the Boom 3i’s upward-facing drivers while it floats. This is a designed behavior, not a guarantee that the speaker cannot tip, sink or be damaged. RTINGS’ Boom 3i review

Anker’s launch announcement describes the stated immersion condition as submersion up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes. That is a manufacturer specification, not permission to leave the speaker underwater indefinitely. Before exposure to water, make sure the USB-port cover is fully closed, as Soundcore’s support FAQ instructs. The rating also covers dust resistance. How long does the battery last?
Soundcore advertises up to 16 hours of playback. That figure comes from company laboratory testing at room temperature with factory-default settings, 50% volume, lights off, BassUp off and default EQ; it is not an independent runtime measurement. Soundcore says actual playtime varies with volume, audio source, environmental interference and other factors. The manual likewise notes that volume and music content affect runtime. The package contents listed in the FAQ are the speaker, a USB-C to USB-C cable, a strap and a quick-start guide; a charger is not listed. Soundcore says the battery is not replaceable. For comparison, RTINGS says the JBL Charge 6 gets louder and delivers somewhat more bass by default. It also notes that the JBL supports Auracast for linking compatible speakers, while the Boom 3i can pair with another Boom 3i for stereo. RTINGS describes the Ultimate Ears BOOM 4 as a 360-degree speaker and notes that the LG xboom Grab has a built-in microphone, a capability not claimed for the Boom 3i in the cited materials. These comparisons point to different use cases rather than a universal winner: the Boom 3i’s distinctive advantage in this group is its face-up floating playback. Connectivity and controls
The Boom 3i uses Bluetooth 5.3, supports SBC and AAC codecs, and can keep up to two devices connected at once, according to Soundcore’s FAQ. The manual lists a Bluetooth range of 30 m (98 ft); actual range can depend on the environment and obstacles. It works with the soundcore app, which can adjust EQ and the idle auto-off time. By default, the speaker powers off after 20 minutes with no audio signal or connection. Soundcore support FAQ · Soundcore manual

Does it have AUX input or a real-time megaphone?
No AUX input is listed in Soundcore’s FAQ. The Voice Amplifier feature is not a live megaphone: the app records a sound clip and plays it through the speaker; real-time voice playback is not supported. Soundcore support FAQ

What does Buzz Clean do?
Buzz Clean uses sound and vibration to help shake debris such as dust or sand from the speaker, according to Soundcore and RTINGS. Treat it as a convenience feature, not a substitute for following cleaning instructions or a promise that every particle will be removed. Soundcore product page · RTINGS’ Boom 3i review

Who should buy the Boom 3i?
The Boom 3i makes the most sense for someone who expects a speaker to spend time around water and values an upright floating design, dust and water resistance, and the maker’s saltwater-resistance claims. It is also a plausible fit for beach, pool, lake and camping use when Bluetooth playback is enough.
Consider another speaker if you care more about maximum loudness and default bass, 360-degree listening, an ecosystem such as Auracast, a built-in microphone, or a wired AUX connection. The Boom 3i’s combination of floating playback and ruggedness is its reason to choose it—not a claim that it is the best portable speaker for every listener.
