The most useful Anker accessories for an iPad fall into four jobs: a compact USB-C wall charger, a USB-C hub or adapter, a wired USB-C power bank, and a USB-C-to-USB-C cable. This is a needs-based selection rather than a laboratory ranking; the available product information does not establish that one particular four-piece set is objectively the best.
The Anker Nano Charger (30W) is the straightforward choice when you want a small, higher-wattage charger. A USB-C hub expands a compatible iPad for storage, keyboards, audio interfaces, Ethernet or a display. A USB-C power bank keeps the iPad running away from an outlet, and a correctly specified USB-C cable handles charging, data or display duties. Check your exact iPad generation and port before buying any of them.

The four accessory types at a glance
| Accessory | Best suited to | What to verify before purchase |
|---|---|---|
| Anker Nano Charger (30W) | Compact wall charging with more output headroom than a basic phone charger | USB-C output, port count, physical size and whether the needed cable is included |
| Anker USB-C hub or multiport adapter | Connecting storage, keyboards, audio interfaces, Ethernet or a monitor | Exact iPad-model support, port selection, display protocol and resolution, and power pass-through |
| Anker USB-C power bank | Wired charging while travelling or working away from a wall outlet | USB-C output, capacity, dimensions, weight and whether simultaneous hub use is supported |
| Anker USB-C to USB-C cable | Charging and data connections on a USB-C iPad | USB-C connectors at both ends, charging rating, data speed, display bandwidth and length |
These categories address different problems, so buying all four is not automatically necessary. Someone who only needs faster wall charging may need the charger and cable; a music or photography workflow may need the hub; frequent travel makes the power bank more valuable. Product availability and compatibility can change, so confirm the current manufacturer specification for the exact item and your iPad model.

Identify the physical port
USB-C accessories in this guide are intended for iPads with a USB-C port. Older iPads with a Lightning port are not USB-C compatible simply because an adapter can be attached; they require the appropriate Lightning connector and may not support the same peripheral features. Look at the port on the tablet and confirm the generation in Settings or on Apple’s model-identification page before ordering.

Separate charging compatibility from feature compatibility
A USB-C iPad can accept power through a compatible USB-C adapter, but a hub’s storage, audio, Ethernet and display functions depend on the iPad model, the hub chipset and the operating system. Apple documents USB-C connections for external storage, keyboards, audio interfaces, Ethernet adapters and displays, while noting that display resolution and Thunderbolt support vary by model. Treat the model-specific limits as a buying requirement, not an optional detail.
Use the included cable when it meets the job
Apple’s charging guidance is to connect the included USB-C cable to a USB-C iPad and a compatible power adapter. If your cable is missing, too short or damaged, replace it with a cable whose connectors and capability match the intended use. A cable that charges an iPad may not provide the bandwidth needed for a high-resolution display or fast data transfer.
1. Anker Nano Charger (30W): compact wall power
Why this wattage is useful
Anker’s own iPad charging guidance says 20W is enough for most iPads and that 30W is suitable for most. That is vendor guidance, not a universal charging-speed guarantee. Apple says a higher-wattage USB-C adapter can charge an iPad faster and specifically notes that an adapter supplied with a Mac laptop can be used for faster charging. Neither statement promises a particular time to reach 50 or 100 percent; charging speed also depends on the iPad, battery level, temperature and what the tablet is doing.

The 30W Nano is therefore a sensible compact option when you want one USB-C wall charger for an iPad and other small devices. It provides more headroom than the 20W baseline cited by Anker without requiring a large laptop-class brick. Confirm the current model’s output profile and whether it has one or more ports before assuming it can charge several devices at once.
Choose the charger by these checks
- Output: Confirm that the USB-C port is rated for the wattage you need. The 30W figure is the charger’s maximum output, not a promise that every iPad will draw 30W continuously.
- Port layout: A single-port charger is simpler and usually smaller. A multiport version may share its available power when another device is connected, so read the per-port limits.
- Included cable: Do not assume a cable is in the box. If it is not, budget for a USB-C-to-USB-C cable with the right charging and data rating.
- Travel fit: Check plug style for your country and the charger’s dimensions if it will be used behind furniture or in a crowded power strip.
Who should buy it
Choose the 30W Nano when your priority is a small wall charger for a USB-C iPad and you do not need a hub or battery on the same purchase. If your iPad is a Lightning model, this charger alone does not solve the connector mismatch; you would need a compatible Lightning cable and should verify the complete charging path.
2. Anker USB-C hub or multiport adapter: add the connections an iPad lacks
What a hub can connect
Apple lists USB-C iPad connections for external storage, keyboards, audio interfaces, Ethernet adapters and displays. A hub consolidates those functions into one accessory, which is useful when the iPad is a workstation, recording device or photo-transfer screen rather than a standalone tablet. Typical ports may include USB-A or USB-C data, HDMI or DisplayPort, an SD or microSD reader, Ethernet and a USB-C power-input port, but the exact combination differs by model.

Display support is model-specific
Do not buy a hub solely because its product name says “4K” or “multiport.” Apple’s USB-C iPad documentation gives model-specific maximum display resolutions and identifies which models support Thunderbolt displays. An iPad may mirror a display, extend it, or be limited to a particular resolution and refresh rate depending on the generation and the port’s capabilities. Match the hub’s display protocol and advertised resolution to the precise iPad model and monitor.
Power pass-through matters for long sessions
A hub that accepts USB-C power pass-through can let the iPad charge while peripherals are attached, but the hub consumes some power and may impose a maximum input or output. The historic PowerExpand Direct 6-in-1 USB-C Hub welcome guide documents an iPad Pro power-pass-through design; that manual shows a relevant design, not proof that the same behavior or compatibility applies to every current Anker hub. Check the current manual for the exact model, including whether pass-through works with your iPad and which port must receive the charger.
Match ports to your workflow
- Storage and photography: Count the card-reader and USB data ports you actually need, and check whether simultaneous card and drive use is supported.
- Music production: Look for the required USB data type, stable power input and enough ports for an audio interface, MIDI controller and charging cable. Community questions about connecting an audio workflow indicate the need, but they are not evidence of a representative test result.
- Office use: Confirm the display connector, Ethernet speed and keyboard compatibility rather than paying for unused card slots.
- Desk setup: Consider cable placement and whether a short, fixed host cable reaches the iPad without stressing the port.
Hub buying checklist
- Write down your exact iPad model and operating-system version.
- List every device you intend to connect at the same time.
- Choose the required data, display, network and card-reader ports.
- Verify display resolution, refresh-rate and Thunderbolt claims against Apple’s model-specific support.
- Confirm USB-C power pass-through, its input requirement and whether the hub remains usable while charging.
- Check the hub’s host connector and cable length; a USB-C hub cannot correct a Lightning-port mismatch without the appropriate, supported adapter.
3. Anker USB-C power bank: wired power away from an outlet
What the evidence supports
Anker’s current Apple-accessory listings include power banks, but the available product information does not establish iPad-specific output performance for one particular model. Treat “Anker USB-C power bank” as a category pick rather than a claim that every model delivers the same result. Select a model only after checking its USB-C output specification and compatibility notes.

Choose output before capacity
Capacity tells you how much energy the bank stores; USB-C output tells you how it can deliver that energy to the iPad. A large-capacity bank with a low USB-C output may charge slowly or fail to maintain the tablet under heavy use. Look for the rated USB-C output in watts or volts and amps, then compare it with the iPad’s requirements and the hub’s pass-through needs. Do not infer output from the bank’s physical size or total advertised capacity.
Account for travel and simultaneous use
- Wired connection: Plan on a USB-C cable between the bank and the iPad. Wireless MagGo power banks are not a wireless charging solution for iPads; iPads should be treated as wired USB-C charging devices for this use.
- Size and weight: A higher-capacity bank generally adds bulk. Check dimensions and weight if it will travel in a small sling or be held while connected.
- Hub use: If you intend to run a hub from the iPad while powering the setup from the bank, verify manufacturer specifications for simultaneous charging and peripheral operation. It should not be assumed from the presence of a USB-C port.
- Recharge method: Confirm how the bank itself recharges and whether its input and output can operate at the same time if that matters to your workflow.
When this pick makes sense
Choose a wired USB-C power bank for flights, field work, classrooms or cafés where wall outlets are unavailable. If you mostly work at a desk, a wall charger is lighter and simpler. If you need both mobility and peripherals, pair the bank with a hub only after confirming the hub’s power behavior.

Charging and data are different requirements
A USB-C-to-USB-C cable is the direct connection Apple describes for charging a USB-C iPad from a compatible adapter. Cables that look identical can differ in charging rating, USB data speed and display bandwidth. Choose by specification, not color, connector shape or the presence of a “fast” label.
Best Value
- 5-in-1 Connectivity: Equipped with a 4K HDMI port, a 5 Gbps USB-C data port, two 5 Gbps USB-A ports, and a USB C 100W PD-IN port. Note: The USB C 100W PD-IN port supports only charging and does not support data transfer devices such as headphones or speakers.
- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.
- HD Display: Connect to the HDMI port to stream or mirror content to an external monitor in resolutions of up to 4K@30Hz. Note: The USB-C ports do not support video output.
- What You Get: Anker 332 USB-C Hub (5-in-1), welcome guide, our worry-free 18-month warranty, and friendly customer service.
Use a capability checklist
- Connectors: Both ends should be USB-C for a USB-C iPad, charger or power bank. A USB-A-to-USB-C cable may work with a suitable USB-A charger but is a different choice.
- Charging rating: Confirm that the cable is rated for the output you plan to use, including any higher-wattage adapter.
- Data speed: If you move files from external storage, check the cable’s USB data specification rather than assuming every USB-C cable has the same speed.
- Display bandwidth: High-resolution display connections may require a cable with suitable bandwidth. Apple’s USB-C guidance discusses this requirement; a charge-only cable can leave a monitor blank even though the iPad charges.
- Length and construction: Select a length that avoids tension at the iPad port. Extra-long cables are convenient but can be harder to route and may have different performance ratings.
Common cable mistakes
Using a USB-C cable that is charge-only for a storage or display connection is the most avoidable mistake. Another is assuming that a hub’s host cable can be replaced with any USB-C lead; some hubs require a particular data capability or permanently attach the host cable. Read the hub and cable specifications together.
Build a set around your actual use
Minimal charging kit
For basic wall charging, use the 30W Nano Charger with a USB-C-to-USB-C cable whose rating matches the charger. This covers a USB-C iPad without adding hub or battery weight. Verify the iPad port first; a Lightning model needs a different cable path.
Desk and monitor kit
For a monitor, keyboard, storage or network connection, start with a hub whose ports and display support match the exact iPad. Add a USB-C charger through the hub’s documented pass-through input if supported, and use a display-capable cable where required. Do not rely on the hub’s port count alone to establish display or Thunderbolt compatibility.
Recommended Free Tools
Travel and field kit
Pair a wired USB-C power bank with a suitable cable when outlets are unreliable. Add a hub only if you have a confirmed peripheral workflow and the bank and hub both document simultaneous operation. Keep the wall charger as a lighter backup for places where an outlet is available.
Setup and troubleshooting
Initial setup
- Confirm the iPad model and whether its port is USB-C or Lightning.
- Update the iPad to the operating system required by the hub or peripheral maker.
- Connect the charger and cable directly first; verify that the iPad shows charging.
- For a hub, connect power pass-through before attaching high-draw peripherals when the manual recommends that order.
- Attach one peripheral at a time so you can identify which device or port causes a problem.
- For displays, select the correct monitor input and test the resolution supported by the iPad model.
If the iPad does not charge
- Try a known-compatible USB-C cable and inspect both connectors for damage or debris.
- Connect the iPad directly to the charger, bypassing the hub, to isolate pass-through issues.
- Check the charger’s per-port output if another device is connected.
- With a power bank, verify that its USB-C port is an output port and that the bank is turned on or awake.
If a peripheral or display is missing
- Confirm that the iPad model supports the requested device class and display feature.
- Check that the cable supports data or display bandwidth, not only charging.
- Disconnect other peripherals to test for hub power limits.
- Review the hub’s manual for port-specific restrictions and required external power.
How to make the final choice
Start with the problem, then verify the specification that solves it. Pick the 30W Nano for compact wall power; pick a hub when you need ports; pick a wired USB-C power bank for outlet-free charging; pick the cable that matches charging, data and display requirements. Because iPad ports and capabilities vary by generation, the exact model check is more important than the accessory’s marketing label. The four categories are practical complements, but the correct combination depends on your hardware and workflow rather than an objective ranking.
