Story is the most sensible starting path because it provides a sequence of increasingly difficult objectives. Clear a stage, inspect what caused a failure, adjust one part of the team or placement plan, and try again. A loss is useful when it tells you whether the problem was insufficient damage, enemies reaching the exit, poor early-game income, or an upgrade bottleneck.
Inventory and teams
Inventory is the authoritative place to check what your account actually owns. Before replacing a unit, compare its role and upgrade cost with the unit you would remove. A high-rarity unit that cannot cover your current weakness may contribute less than a lower-rarity unit with the right range or crowd-control behavior.
Keep at least one team designed for reliable Story clears. If the game permits multiple team presets, use separate setups for general progression and experiments so that testing a new summon does not erase a working arrangement.

Summons
Summoning is how you expand the roster, but spending every Gem on the first available banner can leave you unable to respond to a unit or event that fits your account better. The September 2026 beginner guidance specifically warns against emptying your Gem supply on the first banner (Getting Started in Anime Vanguards).
Before summoning, answer three questions:
- What role is missing from my current team?
- Will this summon improve the next Story stage, or is it only a collection upgrade?
- How much currency must remain for future banners, rerolls, or guaranteed systems shown in the current interface?
A unit may also arrive with a trait, according to the community-maintained traits reference (Traits). Treat the trait displayed on the unit as part of the acquisition decision, but do not assume a specific trait is guaranteed unless the live summon screen says so.

Build a team by role, not by an unverified tier list
Current named-unit rankings are not established by the available sources, and tower-defense performance depends on the stage and mode. Use roles as your stable decision framework.

A simple early-team template
Start with enough income support to reach your first important upgrades, one dependable damage source for ordinary waves, a second damage option for bosses or groups, and crowd control if enemies are escaping. The exact number of slots and the best unit for each job depend on the current game version and your collection. If a stage is lost early, reduce expensive commitments and strengthen your opening damage. If it is lost late, improve scaling, crowd control, or boss coverage rather than merely adding another starter attacker.
Traits: when to reroll and when to stop
Where traits are managed
The community Traits page identifies Mandra in the lobby as the Traits NPC. Players use a Trait Reroll there, and the same page notes that units can be summoned with a trait (Traits). Walk to Mandra, select the unit, and review the trait shown by the current interface before confirming a reroll.

Use rerolls on keepers
Trait Rerolls are a scarce decision resource early in an account’s life. The principle is more important than any particular trait name:
- Do not reroll a temporary unit simply because its trait is imperfect.
- First confirm that the unit has a role you still need and a progression path you can afford.

How to judge a trait
Ask whether the modifier improves the unit’s actual job. A damage modifier is valuable on a damage carry, while a range, speed, or survivability benefit may matter more for a support or control unit. Progression resources and spending discipline
Gems and summons
Gems are your flexible acquisition currency. Save enough to make a deliberate banner decision instead of spending whenever a summon is available. Trait Rerolls
Use these at Mandra only after deciding that the unit is a long-term part of your roster. Record why you are rerolling—more damage, better range, stronger economy, or a specific stage requirement—so you can stop when the unit meets the practical goal.

Stat Chips and similar enhancement items
The June 2026 guide groups Stat Chips with resources worth preserving for stronger units. Spend them on units that already pass two tests: they solve a current team problem and are likely to stay useful after the next stage or banner. Evolution materials

Before evolving, open the unit’s current evolution panel and confirm the exact materials, resulting stats, and any Memoria change.

Stages 1–3: learn the loop
- Place your cheapest reliable damage unit where it covers the longest portion of the path.
- Watch the first waves instead of spending every resource immediately. Identify where enemies bunch up and where a control effect would have the most value.
- Upgrade the unit that is already dealing damage before adding several underpowered units.
- Add economy support only when the extra income can fund a meaningful next placement or upgrade.
Mid-Story: fix the specific failure
- If ordinary enemies leak, improve opening damage, range coverage, or placement.
- If fast enemies leak, add or reposition crowd control and make sure the effect reaches the lane.
- If bosses survive, invest in sustained single-target damage and save currency for the boss wave rather than upgrading every unit evenly.
- If you cannot afford the units you need, test a more economical opening and delay expensive placements.
After a clear
Do not immediately spend every reward. Check which unit carried the stage, which unit never left the bench, and whether the next stage introduces a different pressure. Then update the team deliberately. This prevents a common beginner mistake: investing in a unit only because it was recently obtained.
What to do after finishing Story
Finishing Story does not automatically identify a single best next activity. Revisit your goals: challenge stages, farming, event content, collection, or preparing for a harder mode may require different teams. Keep the proven Story team intact while testing alternatives, and compare units by role, stage fit, resource demand, and expected longevity.
- Use challenge content to discover whether your roster lacks boss damage, area coverage, control, or economy.
- Build a second team only when the new mode demands a different role mix; otherwise, strengthen the units that already clear reliably.
- Review traits and evolution panels before spending rare materials on a unit intended for long-term use.
- Check official update notes and the live game after major patches because unit behavior, banners, rewards, and progression rules may change.
Codes, rates, and other patch-sensitive information
A Reddit community search result reported codes around an October 11, 2026 anniversary update, but it did not verify whether any code remained active on October 13, what rewards it granted, or which eligibility requirements applied (Anime Vanguards 2nd Anniversary Update Codes). Do not copy a code list without checking the official announcement and the redemption screen in your current Roblox session.

Troubleshooting common beginner problems
“My team has strong units but still loses.”
Check role coverage and placement first. A roster can contain powerful damage units and still fail if enemies move too quickly, a lane is uncovered, or upgrades arrive too late. Add control or economy support only after identifying the precise leak.
“I spent all my Gems and now cannot summon.”
Return to Story progression and rebuild a reserve. Use the next banner screen to inspect its duration and guarantees before spending. Avoid trying to recover the loss through repeated low-information summons.
“Should I reroll this trait?”
Reroll only if the unit is a keeper, the current trait does not support its role, and you can explain what improvement you need. If any of those conditions is missing, save the reroll.

Trust the current in-game evolution panel over an older guide. Patch changes can alter Memoria, materials, or the way rewards are granted. Compare the panel with the latest official update note before confirming.
“A code says it is invalid.”
Check spelling, expiration, account eligibility, and whether the code was tied to a limited anniversary event. Community lists can remain online after rewards are disabled.
