Angstrom Levy is a setup-oriented space controller, not simply a projectile character. The developer describes his portals as tools for offense, defense and mobility, with careful placement creating traps. His orbs interact with those portals, adding layers of pressure that other zoning styles may not share.
Because official material does not identify every zoner in the roster or publish matchup data, the fairest comparison is mechanical: how Angstrom’s portal-and-orb system controls access, how much preparation it needs, how it works with assists in the 3v3 format, and what you should test in Training Mode.

What kind of zoner is Angstrom Levy?
Mike Willette, executive producer of Invincible VS, calls Angstrom “a zoning-focused fighter with a strong emphasis on setups and strategy.” That wording matters. It defines a character who shapes where the opponent can stand and move, then converts that positioning into pressure, rather than one whose identity depends only on repeatedly throwing projectiles from full screen.

1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesHis primary space-control tools are portals and orbs. Willette says portals can be used “offensively, defensively and for mobility,” and that careful placement can turn them into traps. He also says portals and orbs have unique interactions that provide more ways to manipulate the fight, pressure an opponent and experiment with setups.

In practical terms, Angstrom’s game plan has three connected parts:
- Placement: establish a portal where it changes an approach, escape route or attack angle.
- Interaction: use an orb with the portal to create a more demanding situation than either tool would create alone.
- Conversion: exploit the opponent’s restricted movement with an attack, assist, tag decision or repositioning sequence.
The first two parts make him setup-heavy. A player who throws out tools without considering where the opponent can move may get little value. A player who places a portal to cover a likely route, then uses an orb to reinforce that space, is playing the character as designed.
Angstrom was announced as the third downloadable fighter and the 21st playable character. An Xbox Wire article published October 1, 2026 described a planned October 13 arrival. That announcement establishes the release plan, not confirmed live availability at every moment on that date, so check the current in-game roster or publisher notice before assuming access.

“Zoner” is a broad fighting-game label. It can describe a character who controls distance with projectiles, one who establishes traps, one who attacks from unusual angles, or one who uses movement tools to keep an opponent at an unfavorable range. Those styles can look similar from a distance but demand different decisions from both players.
Angstrom’s verified identity is positional rather than projectile-defined. A portal changes the routes available on the stage. It can make a lane unsafe, provide a defensive exit or let Angstrom alter his own position. The opponent is therefore responding not only to an attack animation but also to a change in battlefield geometry.
His orb interactions add a second layer. The developer has not published a complete command list, frame data or damage table, so it would be inaccurate to claim a particular orb trajectory, hit property or guaranteed sequence. The reliable conclusion is narrower and more useful: Angstrom’s pressure is intended to become stronger when portals and orbs are planned together.
Conceptual comparison of zoning styles
The following table compares functional archetypes, not named roster characters. Official material does not enumerate which other Invincible VS fighters qualify as zoners, so these categories are a framework for testing rather than a claim about specific opponents.

| Style | How space is controlled | What the defender usually watches | How Angstrom differs |
|---|---|---|---|
| Projectile-first zoning | Repeated attacks make a distance or lane dangerous. | Timing gaps, projectile speed, jump arcs and the approach window after an attack. | Angstrom changes access with portals and can combine them with orbs; the key question is where the next route leads, not only whether another projectile is coming. |
| Trap or set-play zoning | Pre-positioned objects or effects punish predictable movement. | Trigger conditions, escape routes and the time available before the setup becomes active. | Carefully placed portals can function as traps, while orb interactions add another setup decision. |
| Mobility zoning | Movement keeps the character at a preferred range or angle. | Landing points, side switches and opportunities to corner the mobile character. | Portals have an explicitly stated mobility role, so Angstrom can use space control to relocate as well as to deny movement. |
| Assist-based zoning | A teammate’s call controls a lane while the point character advances or retreats. | Assist timing, tag options and the gap after the assist leaves. | Angstrom’s portal locations can give his assist calls a planned destination, but the exact synergy must be tested in the 3v3 system. |
This distinction prevents a common mistake: assuming that every character who attacks from far away creates the same matchup. Against a conventional projectile pattern, the defender may focus on rhythm and gaps. Against Angstrom, the defender must also account for portals that alter approach and escape routes.
The five matchup axes that matter
1. Space control
Ask what the character makes unsafe. Angstrom’s confirmed tools are portals and orbs. A portal may cover a route, create a trap when positioned carefully or provide a way to move. An orb can interact with that portal to expand the setup. This gives Angstrom several ways to influence the same area, but it also means the player must understand the relationship between the tools.
Against another zoner, do not reduce the matchup to “who has more range.” Map the specific lanes each character can threaten. If the opponent controls the air while Angstrom controls a grounded approach, the neutral game will revolve around crossing those two zones. If both characters can retreat, the player who preserves a safe exit may gain more than the player who simply attacks first.
2. Setup dependency
Angstrom’s strongest pressure is expected to depend on preparation. The developer’s emphasis on setups and experimentation indicates that portal placement and portal-orb interactions are central decisions, not optional decoration.

A prepared position can make an approach difficult, but spending time establishing it may give the opponent room to advance, call an assist or change sides. When testing, record whether a setup remains useful after the opponent jumps, blocks, retreats or forces a tag. A setup that only works while the opponent cooperates is not a reliable neutral tool.
3. Mobility and defense
Many zoners are strongest while retreating and weakest when cornered. Angstrom’s portals are explicitly described as defensive and mobility tools as well as offensive ones, so his defensive plan should not be evaluated only by how far he can push the opponent away.
Check whether a portal lets Angstrom leave a dangerous position, change the side of an engagement or preserve enough distance to start another setup. Also test what happens when the opponent follows instead of respecting the portal. A mobility option is valuable only if it creates a safer decision than simply blocking.

4. Team utility
Invincible VS is a 3v3 tag fighter. The April 30, 2026 Xbox Wire launch article identifies teammate assists and character-specific movesets as part of the game’s structure. Angstrom therefore cannot be judged solely as a one-on-one space controller.
A portal may give an assist call a planned location, cover the point character while a teammate enters, or help a team reset its spacing. Those are strategic possibilities, not published guarantees. Test whether the assist arrives where the portal setup expects, whether the opponent can interrupt the call and whether Angstrom can tag safely afterward.
5. Verification in Training Mode
Xbox Wire points to Training Mode as the place to learn individual characters and their movesets. Use it to replace assumptions with repeatable observations. The available official material does not provide frame values, damage numbers or matchup win rates, so avoid presenting impressions as laboratory facts.
How Angstrom may play against different zoner archetypes
These are analytical scenarios, not claims that a particular named fighter has a specific matchup. The roster’s complete set of zoners and their detailed tools are not identified in the cited official material.
Against a projectile-focused opponent
The central question is whether Angstrom can establish a portal before the projectile pattern forces him to block or retreat. Start by testing the opponent’s most common projectile rhythm in Training Mode. Place a portal at the edge of the opponent’s preferred range, then observe whether the portal changes the approach lane or merely occupies space that the opponent can ignore.
Recommended Free Tools
Next, add an orb and test three defensive responses: the opponent continues firing, advances behind the projectile and jumps over it. If the portal-orb interaction creates a meaningful choice in all three cases, Angstrom is making the projectile player solve a positioning problem instead of only a timing problem.
Do not assume that a portal automatically bypasses projectiles. The developer describes portals as versatile, but no source establishes invulnerability, projectile immunity or a guaranteed punish. Verify those properties in the training dummy rather than inferring them from the character’s theme.

Against a mobile zoner
A mobile opponent may refuse to stand in the space Angstrom prepared. Here the matchup becomes a prediction contest: place portals where the opponent wants to land or retreat, then see whether the portal remains relevant after a side switch.
Test short movement, air movement and a direct approach separately. Note whether Angstrom can use a portal defensively without abandoning the setup he needs for offense. If every escape leaves him at the same disadvantageous distance, the mobility tool may be functioning as a temporary reset rather than a full reversal of momentum.
Against a trap-oriented opponent
Two setup characters compete over preparation time. The important comparison is whose setup forces the other player to act first. Use Training Mode to place Angstrom’s portal, then let the opponent establish a trap. Repeat with the order reversed.
Record which setup survives contact, which can be bypassed by a tag and which can be safely blocked. Because no official frame or hitbox data is available, describe the result in observable terms—such as “the dummy can jump out before the orb arrives”—rather than assigning unsupported frame advantages.
Against a close-range threat using distance
A close-range character may try to sprint through the space between Angstrom’s tools. The portal’s defensive and mobility functions are particularly relevant here. Test whether Angstrom can place a portal while retreating, use an orb to discourage pursuit and then convert the opponent’s blocked approach into a team sequence.
A GamesRadar+ launch-build preview described the broader game as using light, medium, heavy and special attacks, along with assists, swaps and a special meter. The same preview observed that Atom Eve could attack from the air at range and use distance against close-range threats. Those observations come from a build that predates Angstrom’s October 2026 addition, so they provide system context rather than certified Angstrom matchup results.
Angstrom’s role in the 3v3 tag system
In a tag fighter, zoning is a team activity. A character who controls space can create time for a partner to recover, call an assist safely or enter behind a covered lane. Conversely, a setup that leaves the point character unable to tag can become a liability.
Best Value
Assist timing
Test assists at three moments: before placing a portal, while the portal is active and after an orb interaction. The goal is to learn whether the assist reinforces the space Angstrom already controls or forces him to abandon it. Also test the opponent’s response to the assist—blocking, jumping, advancing and switching characters—because a setup that works only against passive defense will not define a real matchup.
Tag decisions
Use a portal to ask a simple team question: does Angstrom gain enough safety to bring in a partner? If the answer depends on a specific portal location or orb timing, treat that sequence as a practiced setup rather than a universal escape. The game’s tag structure rewards planning, but it also gives the opponent opportunities to interrupt predictable swaps.
Meter and momentum
The launch-build preview reported a special meter in the general combat system. The sources do not establish Angstrom’s exact meter costs or resource interactions, so do not assign a fixed value to his portal or orb economy. Instead, track when a setup consumes a resource, when it can be repeated and whether saving meter changes the opponent’s willingness to approach.

Use the following sequence to build matchup knowledge without inventing frame data or relying on visual impressions.
- Select Angstrom and a test opponent. Choose one opponent whose space-control style you want to understand. Because the official material does not provide a definitive zoner list, classify the opponent by observed behavior rather than by an assumed label.
- Map the neutral approach. Start with no portals or orbs. Note the distance at which the opponent can attack, jump, retreat or call an assist. This is your baseline for judging whether a setup changes access.
- Place one portal. Try a forward position, a retreat position and a position near a likely landing area. For each, test whether the opponent can ignore it, jump over it, attack through it or use it to approach.
- Add the orb interaction. Repeat the same three portal locations with an orb. Record what new decision the interaction creates. If the opponent’s response is unchanged, the setup may not be worth the preparation time in that situation.
- Test offense, defense and mobility separately. Do not combine all functions at once. First ask how the portal supports an attack, then how it helps while blocking or retreating, then how it changes Angstrom’s movement.
- Test common defensive choices. Have the dummy block, jump, back away, advance and switch sides. A setup is more reliable when it remains useful against several responses.
- Add assists and swaps. Repeat the sequence with a teammate assist and a tag attempt. Check whether the portal remains active, whether the assist arrives in the intended lane and whether the opponent can punish the transition.
- Write observations, not unsupported statistics. Record statements such as “the opponent can leave before the orb arrives” or “the portal covers the retreat lane.” Do not turn those observations into frame advantages, guaranteed punishes or matchup percentages unless official data establishes them.
Strengths and trade-offs suggested by the design
| Potential strength | Why it follows from the confirmed design | Trade-off to check |
|---|---|---|
| Flexible battlefield control | Portals are described as offensive, defensive and mobility tools. | Using a portal for one purpose may leave less coverage for another; test whether placement can be changed safely. |
| Layered pressure | Portal-and-orb interactions are intended to create additional pressure and setup options. | More layers require more preparation and execution, giving the opponent time to challenge the setup. |
| Trap potential | Careful portal placement can create traps. | A trap is only useful if it covers a realistic route and cannot be ignored or escaped cheaply. |
| Team flexibility | Portals can influence space around assists and tags in a 3v3 format. | A setup that is strong alone may be awkward when a teammate’s assist or swap changes the timing. |
| Experimentation value | The developer explicitly encourages experimenting with portal and orb interactions. | Unverified discoveries should remain training observations until repeatable and supported by published data. |
What is not established yet
The official character announcement explains Angstrom’s intended playstyle but does not publish a command list, frame data, damage values, hitbox information, matchup win rates, pick rates or tournament results. It also does not identify a specific named character as a counter or confirm that Angstrom wins or loses a particular matchup.
That absence matters when reading online tier lists or early matchup claims. “The developer positions him as a setup-focused zoner” is supported. “Angstrom beats every projectile character” is not. “His portal has a particular number of invulnerable frames” is not supported by the cited material. “This character is his direct counter” requires evidence beyond the design description.
The October 13, 2026 date is likewise a planned arrival date reported by Xbox Wire, not independent confirmation of live availability at every time or on every platform. Check the current game build before basing a team plan on access to the character.

Bottom line: how Angstrom compares with other zoners
Angstrom’s difference is the way he controls space. His portals can attack, defend, reposition and become traps when placed carefully; his orbs interact with those portals to add pressure and setup choices. That makes him a space-controller whose effectiveness depends on planning and experimentation, not a character who can be accurately summarized as “the one with long-range projectiles.”
Against other zoning styles, compare route denial, preparation time, defensive mobility, assist compatibility and the number of responses each setup forces. Use Training Mode to test those questions in the current build. Until command data and competitive results are published, the accurate matchup conclusion is conditional: Angstrom appears designed to win decisions through layered positioning, while the exact advantages against named zoners remain something players must verify rather than assume.
