Android PC emulation runs a supported Android game on your computer; game streaming runs a game on a remote server and sends the video and audio to your device. The key difference is where the game executes: locally on your PC or remotely in the cloud. Google Play Games on PC illustrates the first approach, while NVIDIA GeForce NOW illustrates the second.
Where does the game run?
Local Android gaming on a PC
With Google Play Games on PC, the game runs on the computer in Google’s supported Android gaming environment. Your PC supplies the processor, graphics hardware, memory and storage used to run it. Google describes the product as a way to play mobile games on a Windows computer and offers a catalog of supported games, not a guarantee that arbitrary Android apps will work. Cloud game streaming
With a streaming service such as GeForce NOW, a remote gaming rig launches the game and streams its audiovisual output to your device. Your inputs travel back over the network. It can look like the game is launching on your device, but the execution is remote. NVIDIA explains the process in its GeForce NOW FAQ.

These are different ways to access games, not a universal performance ranking. The product requirements establish what each service asks for; they do not prove that one approach is always faster, cheaper or more reliable.

Does an Android emulator run games on my PC?
In a local setup, yes: the game’s execution takes place on the PC. But “Android emulator” can refer to different products and implementations. Google Play Games on PC is a catalog-based product with specific compatibility rules; it should not be treated as a tool that runs every Android app or as interchangeable with every other emulator. Google also cautions that other emulators might not work when Windows Hypervisor Platform is enabled. Do I need a powerful PC for Android games?
For Google Play Games on PC, Google’s requirements checked in 2026 list Windows 10 version 2004, an SSD with 10 GB of available space, 8 GB of RAM, four physical CPU cores and hardware virtualization enabled. These are minimums for this product, not universal requirements for every Android emulator or a guarantee that every supported game will perform the same on every qualifying PC. A powerful PC cannot make an unsupported game compatible. Look up the title in the product’s catalog and heed any warnings shown for that game.
Does cloud gaming run on my device?
The client displays and plays the stream, but the cloud service runs the game remotely. That distinction means your device still needs to be supported by the service, and the game must be available to stream. For eligible GeForce NOW games, NVIDIA says players connect their game-store accounts; check the service’s current catalog and account requirements rather than assuming a game you own can be streamed.

How fast does my internet need to be for game streaming?
NVIDIA’s GeForce NOW guidance checked in 2026 gives these Android network targets:

NVIDIA separately requires less than 80 ms network latency to an NVIDIA data center. Bandwidth is the amount of data the connection can carry; latency is the delay in communication. Meeting a bandwidth target alone does not establish that latency is low enough. NVIDIA recommends wired Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi. Which option should you choose?
- Choose local Android gaming on PC if the game is supported and your computer meets the product’s requirements. The PC does the game execution, so its hardware and compatibility matter.
- Choose streaming if the title is available through the service, your device is supported and your connection meets that provider’s guidance.
- Check the game first. A compatible computer does not add a game to a local catalog, and a fast connection cannot make an unavailable title streamable.
What controls can I use?
Google says Google Play Games on PC supports keyboard and mouse. For streaming, controls depend on the game and client. NVIDIA lists Xbox controllers among the gamepads supported for GeForce NOW on PC and Android; a controller is optional, not a requirement for every game.
