An independent reviewer blocked two of five outbound emails, and I agreed with both decisions. The problems were small, but the available details do not identify what either reviewer note said. That distinction matters: without the notes or the messages, it would be misleading to claim that a typo, misleading subject, missing opt-out, authentication failure, or any other specific defect caused either block.
“Blocked” can also mean two different things. A reviewer may reject a message before it is sent; a receiving mail provider may reject it during delivery. Those are separate events with different evidence and fixes. This account is about a review decision, not proof that a provider rejected two messages.

What does “blocked” mean here?
In this account, an independent reviewer blocked two messages in a five-email outbound set. That describes a review outcome. It does not establish that Gmail, Yahoo, or another provider rejected the messages, sent them to spam, or prevented delivery.
To diagnose an actual provider rejection, check the sending system’s delivery status and any SMTP rejection code or bounce message. If the message appears to have been accepted but not delivered as expected, authenticated message headers and provider-specific tools may help. An open rate alone cannot establish that a message was blocked or classified as spam; Google cautions that low open rates are not necessarily an accurate deliverability indicator in its Gmail sender guidance.

Why did the reviewer block the two emails?
The cause of either review decision cannot be stated without the reviewer’s notes and the messages themselves. A tiny issue can matter when it changes who the sender appears to be, makes a subject line inaccurate, breaks formatting, or affects an opt-out. Those are possible categories to investigate—not established explanations for these two blocks.
The useful evidence is the reviewer’s reason for each decision, the precise text or header difference, and the rule or standard that applied. If the concern was editorial, the remedy may be a copy correction; if it was legal or technical, changing a sentence alone may not fix it.
How do I check if my email is blocked?
First identify which stage failed. A review rejection happens before sending; a mail-provider rejection happens in the delivery process. A message marked sent by a campaign tool is not, by itself, proof that it reached the recipient’s inbox.

- For a review block: retain the reviewer’s exact note and the version they assessed. Compare it with the approved version to identify the specific difference and the applicable editorial rule.
- For a delivery rejection: inspect the sending platform’s status, bounce details, and rejection code. Where available, examine the message headers for authentication and routing information.
- For suspected spam placement: use provider-specific delivery signals and monitoring rather than inferring placement from opens. Google offers Postmaster Tools information within its sender guidance for eligible senders and relevant Gmail traffic.
These checks answer different questions. A reviewer’s decision does not show a provider-policy violation, and a successful technical delivery does not show that the copy passed an editorial or legal review.
Could a small sender or copy issue matter?
Yes, depending on the rule being applied. A minor-looking difference can alter the identity represented by a From line, make a subject inconsistent with the message, or interfere with an unsubscribe mechanism. But no such issue is established as the cause of the two review blocks described here.
Provider requirements are not the same as review criteria
Google’s current guidance says all senders to Gmail accounts must use SPF or DKIM authentication, maintain valid forward and reverse DNS, use TLS, and meet message-format requirements. It states that spam rates in Postmaster Tools should remain below 0.3%. For senders sending more than 5,000 messages per day to Gmail accounts, Google lists additional requirements, including both SPF and DKIM, DMARC, alignment of the visible From domain with SPF or DKIM, and one-click unsubscribe for marketing and subscribed messages. Google says an enforcement ramp-up for noncompliant traffic began in November 2025. These are Gmail sender requirements, not evidence of what this independent reviewer applied or why the two messages were blocked. Check the live Gmail sender guidelines and Gmail sender FAQ because requirements and enforcement can change.

U.S. commercial email has legal requirements
In the United States, CAN-SPAM applies to commercial email, including business-to-business messages. The FTC’s business compliance guide summarizes requirements including accurate header information, a non-deceptive subject, required advertising identification, a valid physical postal address, a clear opt-out method, promptly honoring opt-out requests, and oversight of vendors sending on a business’s behalf. Whether a message is commercial or transactional depends on its primary purpose.
Advertising identification is not necessarily required in the subject line. FTC attorney Christopher Brown said, “The CAN-SPAM Act doesn’t require senders to identify the message as an advertisement in the subject line.” The FTC’s 2015 interview with Brown also cautions that deceptive subject lines are illegal and opt-out requests must be honored promptly. These U.S. legal considerations do not establish that either email in this review violated CAN-SPAM.

What can the five-message result tell us?
It tells us that two messages were blocked in this particular review and that the author agreed with those decisions. It does not establish a general failure rate, the likelihood that another reviewer would block similar copy, or the cause of either decision. The five-message result is an anecdote, not statistical evidence.
A useful comparison of the two blocked messages with the three accepted ones would require the actual reviewer notes and message versions. The comparison should identify the stated reason, the exact text or header difference, and whether the concern was editorial, legal, or technical. Without that evidence, assigning a cause would be speculation.

Quick Recap
- Confirm sender identity: verify that the From name and address accurately identify the sender and match the message’s context.
- Verify subject and content: make sure the subject accurately describes the message and that the body is correctly formatted. If a reviewer flags an issue, use the precise note and the version reviewed to locate it.
- Check commercial-message obligations: for U.S. commercial email, assess the applicable CAN-SPAM requirements, including postal address and opt-out handling, using the FTC’s current guidance.
- Diagnose delivery separately: if a provider rejects the message, check delivery status, bounce or rejection details, and relevant authentication information against that provider’s current sender requirements.
