That is a striking result, but it describes one run—not proof that an AI agent can reliably configure any new PC in minutes or that the finished system was safe and complete.
What happened in the reported 11-minute setup
A surfaced XDA Developers story, listed as published October 6, 2026 at 10:00 UTC, says its author asked Claude Code: “Make this fresh Windows 11 PC usable for a typical power user.” The author reportedly ran the agent in a Hyper-V virtual machine with 4 vCPUs and 8 GB of RAM, using a clean installation of Windows 11 Pro 26H2, build 26300.9457. The VM had a checkpoint for rollback and a separate local administrator account for the agent; the author’s own Microsoft account was also present on the machine. The story says Claude Code was installed through PowerShell and the task finished in 11 minutes. XDA Developers

Those setup and timing details come from the story’s surfaced excerpt; the full page and its scorecard were not available to independently verify. The excerpt does not specify exactly what the agent changed, how “usable” was judged, or how correctness and security were checked. The result is therefore best understood as a reported anecdote, not a reproducible benchmark or a promise of a hands-off setup.
What a computer-use agent does
A computer-use agent can interpret the screen and operate controls—clicking, typing, and scrolling—rather than relying only on a dedicated integration with each app. OpenAI describes its Computer-Using Agent (CUA) as an iterative loop: it reads screenshots, reasons about the next action, then uses mouse and keyboard inputs. Its announcement says the system may request confirmation for sensitive steps such as entering credentials or completing CAPTCHA forms. That explains the broad approach; it does not establish that Claude Code used OpenAI’s implementation in this Windows setup. OpenAI’s CUA announcement

Microsoft documents a comparable computer-use capability in Copilot Studio, where an agent can interact with websites and desktop apps on a configured Windows computer by selecting buttons, menus, and text fields. These are documented product capabilities, not evidence that the XDA experiment used Copilot Studio. Microsoft Copilot Studio computer use documentation
Why 11 minutes does not mean agents can set up every PC that fast
“Usable for a typical power user” is an open-ended request, not a checklist with a stated pass/fail result. Different people may expect different apps, privacy settings, backups, drivers, accessibility preferences, or security controls. Since the surfaced excerpt does not provide the completed task list or a verification method, the 11-minute figure cannot show whether every change was correct, whether anything was missed, or how much human supervision was involved.

Computer-use performance also varies by task and test. In its January 23, 2025 CUA announcement, OpenAI reported success rates of 38.1% on OSWorld, 58.1% on WebArena, and 87.0% on WebVoyager. OpenAI also cited a 72.4% human result on OSWorld. These vendor-reported benchmark figures concern those specific tests; they are not measurements of Claude Code configuring Windows, and they cannot be compared directly with an 11-minute setup time. Is it safe to give an AI agent administrator access?
Administrator access can let software make system-wide changes, so an agent operating with those permissions deserves the same caution as any powerful automation tool. Microsoft warns that agents can behave unexpectedly and that malicious content in interface elements or documents can manipulate an agent into unintended actions, including data exfiltration or malware installation. A separate local administrator account and a VM checkpoint, as reportedly used in this case, can help isolate and roll back an experiment, but they do not establish that the agent’s actions were secure or correct. Microsoft recommends using a dedicated computer for computer-use workflows, granting only the permissions the account needs, restricting web access to trusted sites, and allowing only necessary desktop apps. These are risk-reduction recommendations, not a guarantee that autonomous actions are risk-free. Microsoft Copilot Studio computer use guidance

Windows has a separate experimental agent workspace described by Microsoft as using a distinct agent account and scoped access controls. Microsoft says the feature is in preview and that experimental agentic features are off by default. Its documentation describes permissions for known folders—including Documents, Downloads, Desktop, Music, Pictures, and Videos—that can be allowed, prompted for, or denied. This is a separate Windows feature; there is no evidence it was used in the reported Claude Code experiment. Microsoft Support: Experimental Agentic Features
