American Airlines plans to begin installing Starlink Wi-Fi across its entire mainline fleet in early 2027. The airline lists 1,030 mainline aircraft in the program, but has not announced how long installations will take or when the rollout will be complete. Its October 8, 2026 announcement does not include regional aircraft.

When does American Airlines plan to start installing Starlink?

Installations are scheduled to begin in early 2027, according to American Airlines’ October 8, 2026 announcement. The company has not published a per-aircraft schedule or a target date for finishing the work. “Beginning in early 2027” therefore describes the planned start, not a promise that every aircraft will have Starlink by the end of that year.

How did the plan expand?

In May 2026, American announced a plan to install Starlink on more than 500 Airbus aircraft, with installations expected to start in the first quarter of 2027. The October announcement broadened that plan to all mainline Airbus and Boeing narrowbody and widebody aircraft. The earlier announcement is available in American’s May 5, 2026 release.

Does the announcement include American Eagle regional flights?

No regional aircraft are named in the announcement; it concerns American’s mainline fleet. It does not establish whether American Eagle aircraft will receive Starlink. Travelers can check American’s current onboard Wi-Fi information, but that page should not be taken as confirmation that the newly announced Starlink service is already available.

What does Starlink Wi-Fi promise passengers?

American says it plans to install Starlink’s Performance Aero Terminal and describes the terminal’s capability as up to 1 Gbps. That is a stated capability per terminal—not a guarantee of an individual passenger’s speed, a fixed amount of bandwidth for every passenger, or measured performance on a particular flight.

The airline says the intended uses include streaming, gaming, collaboration, browsing, and messaging. These are the company’s stated use cases, not independently verified results from service on American aircraft. The October announcement does not state a Starlink-specific passenger price or access policy.
