As of August 16, 2026, AMD’s current Windows driver for the Radeon RX 9060 XT is AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 26.7.1. It is a WHQL Recommended release dated July 28, 2026, for 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11. AMD’s notes document game support and broad RX 7000-series-and-newer fixes, but no universal RX 9060 XT FPS increase. Use it for a fresh installation or when you need one of its listed fixes; a stable system that does not need them can reasonably remain on its current WHQL driver.

What Adrenalin 26.7.1 changes
AMD’s release notes do not describe 26.7.1 as a dedicated RX 9060 XT performance driver. The documented changes are:
| Category | AMD-documented change | RX 9060 XT relevance |
|---|---|---|
| Product support | Support for Radeon RX 9050 | Not an RX 9060 XT feature |
| Game support | Gears of War: E-Day Open Beta Early Access and Out of Control Evolution | Useful if you play these titles |
| Blender and Cinema 4D | Fixes rendering or model flickering and intermittent Blender crashes on RX 7000-series and newer GPUs | Directly applicable to the RX 9060 XT |
| Fortnite | Fixes missing directional-indicator icons on RX 7000-series and newer | Relevant if you experienced this problem |
| FSR 4.1 | Addresses intermittent crashes on Windows 10 Radeon RX 7000-series products when FSR Upscaling 4.1 is enabled | Potentially relevant, but not a blanket fix for every RX 9060 XT crash |
| Battlefield 6 | Corrects cases where FSR Upscaling and Frame Generation appeared inactive in Adrenalin despite being enabled on RX 9000-series GPUs | Relevant to RX 9060 XT owners |

Should you install 26.7.1?
Update now when
- You are installing the RX 9060 XT for the first time.
- You need support for either newly supported game.
- Blender, Cinema 4D, Fortnite, or Battlefield 6 is showing one of the documented problems.
- You are troubleshooting an issue addressed by the release notes.
Waiting is reasonable when
- Your PC is stable and you do not need the new support or fixes.
- A particular game or application works reliably on the previous WHQL package.
- You use extensive undervolting or overclocking and do not want to retest it immediately.
“WHQL Recommended” means AMD designates the package as its recommended Windows driver; it is not a guarantee that every hardware combination or game will be trouble-free. Forum and Reddit reports of crashes, missing GPU detection, or display problems are anecdotal and do not by themselves prove a driver-wide regression.

How to download and install the driver
- Open AMD’s Radeon RX 9060 XT Drivers and Downloads page.
- Select Windows 11 – 64-Bit Edition or Windows 10 – 64-Bit Edition.
- Choose AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition and confirm revision 26.7.1 (WHQL Recommended), dated July 28, 2026.
- Download and run the installer. Approve administrator elevation if Windows requests it.
- Reboot after installation, even if a restart is not mandatory.
- Open AMD Software and check its system or software-information area to verify 26.7.1.
AMD also offers an approximately 46 MB Auto-Detect and Install utility. Manual selection is preferable when you want to verify the exact package before installing; use the utility when you are unsure which Radeon model or Windows edition is installed.
Normal update or clean installation?
Use a normal update first
A normal update is appropriate when the existing driver works and you are moving from a recent Adrenalin release. It preserves profiles and avoids unnecessary reconfiguration.
Choose a clean installation when
- An earlier installation was interrupted or partially removed.
- You recently replaced the GPU.
- Windows keeps installing a different display driver.
- You have persistent timeouts, black screens, flicker, or unexplained crashes.
- The system previously used GeForce hardware and may retain conflicting components.
A clean install can remove corrupted profiles, but it also resets custom settings. Record your GPU overclock or undervolt, fan curve, game profiles, display color, FreeSync and multi-monitor setup, capture and overlay options, Anti-Lag, Enhanced Sync, and frame-generation settings first. Reinstalling a driver cannot repair defective hardware, inadequate power delivery, unstable RAM or CPU overclocks, overheating, a damaged cable, or a game-specific bug.

- Phase-change GPU thermal pad helps ensure optimal thermal performance and longevity, outlasting traditional thermal paste for graphics cards under heavy loads
What to do if the update fails
- Reboot once, then check Device Manager and AMD Software to determine whether the package actually installed.
- If Windows reports a display-driver problem, rerun the AMD installer and use its reset or clean-install option if offered.
- Return GPU tuning to stock settings.
- Disconnect unnecessary display adapters or docks, test with one monitor, and use a known-good cable.
- If the issue continues, follow AMD’s official cleanup procedure or use a reputable display-driver removal utility, then reinstall a known-good package.
- If symptoms began with 26.7.1, install an earlier WHQL package from AMD’s previous-driver page. AMD lists releases including 26.6.1 and 26.5.2.
When the GPU is missing
If the card is absent from Device Manager after a clean installation, stop repeatedly reinstalling drivers. Check BIOS detection, PCIe seating, the eight-pin power connector, PSU capacity, and possible hardware failure. No video output at power-on, artifacts in BIOS or on another computer, crashes under every driver version, system shutdowns under load, or damaged power connectors point beyond a software update.

When an application still crashes
Display-driver timeouts across multiple games, broken Radeon overlays, or flicker that starts immediately after updating are more suggestive of a driver issue, especially if rollback removes the symptom. A single-game crash may instead be caused by the game, settings, an overclock, or another system component.
Windows 10, Windows 11, and Linux
AMD lists Adrenalin 26.7.1 for both Windows 10 64-bit and Windows 11 64-bit, with version 21H2 or later required for each. The release notes specifically qualify the FSR 4.1 crash item for Windows 10, so do not assume identical behavior across operating systems.

Linux users should not install the Windows Adrenalin package. AMD lists separate Radeon Software for Linux 26.13 packages for RHEL 10.2, RHEL 9.8, Ubuntu 24.04.4 HWE, and Ubuntu 26.04 on the RX 9060 XT support page.
Bottom line
Adrenalin 26.7.1 is the correct default for a new RX 9060 XT Windows installation and for users who need its game support or documented Blender, Cinema 4D, Fortnite, FSR, or Battlefield 6 fixes. It is not documented as a universal RX 9060 XT FPS upgrade. If your current WHQL driver is stable and none of those changes matters to you, waiting and keeping the previous installer available is a sensible choice.

Do I need DDU or AMD Cleanup Utility for every update?
No. Start with a normal update when the current driver works. Reserve a clean removal for repeated failures, a GPU replacement, conflicting drivers, or persistent black screens, flicker, and timeouts.
Is 26.7.1 better than 26.6.1 for every game?
Not necessarily. 26.7.1 is newer and AMD-recommended, but its notes do not establish a universal RX 9060 XT performance advantage. A stable system can remain on an older WHQL release.
Is the Windows driver the same as the Linux driver?
No. Windows uses Adrenalin 26.7.1; AMD lists separate Radeon Software for Linux packages, including version 26.13 builds.
