For Radeon Vega graphics on a supported 64-bit Windows installation, the current Polaris/Vega-specific package identified by AMD is AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 25.8.1. AMD lists it as driver version 23.19.23.11, with Windows Driver Store version 31.0.21923.11000. The package supports Radeon VII, Radeon RX Vega Series Graphics, Radeon Pro Duo, and several RX 400, RX 500 and RX 500X products.

Use AMD’s Windows 10/11 64-bit download when your exact GPU and operating system match the release notes. On a laptop or all-in-one, check the computer maker’s validated driver first because hybrid graphics, display switching, power controls and hotkeys can depend on vendor-specific software. A driver update may correct a game or application problem, but AMD does not promise a universal frame-rate increase.

What the current Vega driver package includes

AMD’s 2025 release information identifies Adrenalin Edition 25.8.1 as the latest Polaris/Vega-focused package located for this guide. It is a 64-bit Windows installer and requires administrator rights. The listed compatible families are:

GPU family listed by AMD What to verify before downloading
Radeon VII Confirm the exact Radeon VII model in Device Manager or AMD Software.
Radeon RX Vega Series Graphics Check the specific RX Vega model, not just the word “Vega.”
AMD Radeon Pro Duo Verify that the installed product is the Radeon Pro Duo covered by the release notes.
Radeon RX 500/500X Confirm the series and operating-system edition.
Radeon RX 400 Check the exact card and 64-bit Windows version.

“Vega” is a product family name, not a single driver identity. A notebook’s Vega graphics may also be tied to an integrated processor, a discrete GPU and an OEM display-switching system. That is why the exact model and machine type matter more than downloading a package solely because its name contains Vega.

Windows versions and support boundaries

Supported Windows baselines

The 25.8.1 notes list Windows 11 version 21H2 and later and Windows 10 64-bit version 1809 and later. AMD cautions that support can still vary by Radeon product, so treat those versions as a baseline rather than a guarantee for every system.

Windows 11 24H2

AMD’s earlier 24.7.1 package added Windows 11 24H2 support and listed RX Vega compatibility. If you are moving to 24H2, read the release notes for the package you intend to install and confirm that your particular laptop or all-in-one has a validated driver.

Older Windows releases

AMD’s 21.6.1 notes explain that Windows 7 and some older Radeon generations moved to a legacy-support model. Do not assume a current Adrenalin package will install on Windows 7. Vega continued to appear in later Polaris/Vega packages, but the cadence is maintenance-oriented rather than focused on adding the newest features.

Identify your exact GPU before downloading

  1. Press Windows key + X and open Device Manager.
  2. Expand Display adapters and record the complete model name. If more than one adapter appears, note each one; a laptop may show integrated and discrete graphics.
  3. Alternatively, open AMD Software and use its system information view to record the product name and current driver version.
  4. Check whether Windows is 10 or 11 and confirm that it is a 64-bit installation. The 25.8.1 package is the 64-bit Windows download.
  5. For a laptop or all-in-one, write down the computer manufacturer and model. You will use that information to compare AMD’s generic package with the OEM package.

Do not select a download by the memory size of the card or by a similar-sounding model. RX Vega 56, RX Vega 64, Radeon VII and integrated Vega products can have different support paths even though all include “Vega” in their names.

Download and install the AMD package manually

  1. Open AMD’s official Adrenalin Edition 25.8.1 Polaris/Vega release-note page. Use the Windows 10/11 64-bit download link shown for the release, not a third-party mirror.
  2. Confirm the compatibility list. Match your exact adapter to the listed Radeon VII, RX Vega, Radeon Pro Duo, RX 500/500X or RX 400 families, and recheck your Windows version.
  3. Prepare the session. Save work, close games, browsers using hardware acceleration and other GPU-intensive applications. Keep the computer connected to reliable power; an interrupted display-driver installation can leave Windows using a basic display driver until the package is repaired.
  4. Run the installer with administrator rights. Right-click the downloaded installer, choose Run as administrator, and approve the Windows permission prompt. The package requires administrative access.
  5. Follow AMD’s installation flow. AMD provides separate official uninstall and install instructions from the release page. Use those instructions if the installer detects remnants of an older package or offers an uninstall-first path.
  6. Allow the display to reset. The screen may go black or flicker briefly while the driver is replaced. Do not power off the system during this stage.
  7. Restart when prompted. A reboot completes driver registration and applies the new display, power and graphics components.
  8. Check the result. Reopen Device Manager or AMD Software and confirm that the adapter is named correctly and that the installed driver corresponds to the package you selected. Launch one game that previously worked and one that exposed the original problem before changing additional settings.

Generic AMD package or computer-maker driver?

The best choice depends on whether you have a desktop card or a machine whose graphics behavior is controlled by the system manufacturer.

Decision factor AMD generic package OEM-validated package
Desktop RX Vega or Radeon VII Usually the straightforward match when the exact card is listed. Often unavailable or less relevant for a self-built desktop.
Laptop hybrid graphics May provide newer fixes, but can expose display-switching or sleep issues on a particular model. Validated for the laptop’s integrated/discrete graphics hand-off and power behavior.
Vendor hotkeys, brightness and docking features Support is not guaranteed for every manufacturer-specific function. More likely to include the manufacturer’s display, hotkey and power customizations.
Release-note troubleshooting AMD publishes known issues and prior packages for rollback. The manufacturer may qualify a different package for the same GPU.
Rollback path Use AMD’s prior release and uninstall guidance. Use the OEM package or its recovery method when generic installation affects system-specific features.

AMD explicitly recommends OEM-provided drivers when system-specific features are involved. On a laptop, start with the manufacturer’s support page if the generic package causes loss of brightness control, display switching, sleep behavior, hotkeys or other hardware integration. On a desktop with a standard Radeon card, AMD’s package generally maps more cleanly to the hardware.

If the update causes a crash, flicker or missing feature

First isolate the change

  1. Reboot once after installation, even if Windows did not insist on it.
  2. Reproduce the problem in the same game or application, recording the exact action that triggers it.
  3. Check whether the issue occurs only on a laptop’s hybrid-graphics mode, only with Vulkan or DirectX 12, or only when multiple monitors are connected.
  4. Read the release notes for the installed package and compare your symptom with the documented known issues.

Use a previous driver when the release notes direct you to

AMD’s 24.7.1 notes give a concrete example: users affected by a specific DirectX 12 crash are directed to install the previous driver. If your symptom matches such guidance, identify the prior package in AMD’s release history, use AMD’s uninstall/install instructions, install that package, and reboot. The historical package listed in that context carried driver version 23.19.16.

When Windows usernames affect game components

The 24.7.1 notes documented shader-cache failures for Windows usernames containing accented characters and a DirectX 12 crash affecting some non-English usernames. These are release-specific findings, not proof that every non-English account will fail. If your crash matches the documented pattern, test with the previous driver as AMD recommends rather than repeatedly reinstalling the same package.

Hybrid graphics and Vulkan

AMD also documented Vulkan crashes on some hybrid-graphics systems. For a notebook, compare behavior with the OEM-validated driver before deciding that the GPU itself is defective. Record whether the game is running on the integrated or discrete adapter, because that distinction changes the troubleshooting path.

Multi-monitor flicker

AMD’s 21.6.1 notes described a Vega-series multi-monitor flicker issue when connected displays have large differences in resolution or refresh rate. If flicker starts after a driver change, temporarily test one monitor or use matched resolution and refresh settings to determine whether the symptom follows that documented condition. A previous driver may be appropriate if the release notes recommend it.

Optional shortcut after the manual checks

If you prefer assistance identifying driver problems, Outbyte Driver Updater can scan more than 100 devices for outdated, corrupted or missing drivers, install only official drivers, show the current and recommended versions, and provide driver backup, restore and scheduled scans. It runs on Windows 11, 10, 8 and 7 and includes a 2-day free trial with no credit card before a subscription; results vary, and manual OEM validation remains important for laptops.

What gamers should realistically expect

Compatibility improvements are the defensible expectation

A driver update can resolve an application issue, improve compatibility with a game or correct a regression. AMD’s official Vega notes do not publish a universal FPS gain for 25.8.1, so do not treat installation as a guaranteed performance upgrade. Measure a repeatable scene before and after if frame rate matters, keeping resolution, graphics settings, game patch and background applications unchanged.

FSR is game-dependent

AMD’s 21.6.1 notes clarify that FidelityFX Super Resolution requires developer integration and is dependent on the game. Installing a Vega driver does not add FSR to a title that does not implement it, and it does not guarantee the same image-quality or performance behavior across games.

Maintenance cadence

Vega remains present in later Polaris/Vega packages such as 25.8.1, but the practical support model is slower and more maintenance-focused than the newest Radeon generations. Read each release note for your specific game or operating-system change instead of updating automatically for every new Adrenalin version.
