The AMD Radeon RX 6600 is a low-power graphics card aimed at high-refresh 1080p gaming. Its 8GB of memory and 132W typical board power remain attractive, but its launch-era benchmark results are not a guide to every current game, and its value now depends on the price and condition of the card you can actually buy.

What the RX 6600 offers

AMD launched the RX 6600 on 13 October 2021 with a $329 suggested e-tail price (SEP). That is a historical launch price, not a current price; the card’s value today depends on local listings, availability and competing GPUs. AMD’s launch announcement gives the launch date and SEP.

Specification RX 6600
Architecture and compute units RDNA 2; 28 compute units
Memory 8GB GDDR6
Infinity Cache 32MB
Typical board power 132W
Minimum PSU recommendation 450W
Power connector One 8-pin connector

These are AMD’s published specifications for the RX 6600. Partner cards may differ in clock speeds, cooler design and acoustics. Check the exact model and its power connections before buying. AMD’s product page lists the specifications.

Is the RX 6600 good for 1080p gaming?

1080p is the card’s natural target, including high-refresh play in many games. AMD’s product page gives these examples at 1080p maximum settings: 98 FPS in The Division 2, 138 FPS in Doom Eternal, 102 FPS in Far Cry 6, 118 FPS in Shadow of the Tomb Raider, 173 FPS in Wolfenstein: Young Blood, 153 FPS in Apex Legends, 111 FPS in Fortnite and 452 FPS in Valorant. These are AMD’s published examples, not a guarantee of performance on every PC or in later versions of those games.

  • 8GB High‑Speed GDDR6 Memory: Equipped with 8GB of GDDR6 memory on a 128‑bit interface running at 18 Gbps, delivering up to 288 GB/s bandwidth for high‑resolution textures and demanding game workloads.

Frame rates depend on the game, graphics settings, CPU, drivers and system configuration. The figures above should not be treated as directly comparable to independent review results unless the test conditions match. For a demanding new game, check benchmarks for that specific title and settings rather than assuming it will run at the same rate as AMD’s examples.

Can the RX 6600 handle 1440p?

Yes, but 1440p is a less comfortable fit, especially at ultra settings. In its October 2021 review, Tom’s Hardware found several games below 60 FPS at 1440p ultra and described that experience as “wasn’t nearly as compelling.” High settings, or a mix of medium and high, are more realistic starting points when you want smoother play.

In Tom’s Hardware’s 1440p comparison, the RX 6600 was about 9% behind the RTX 3060. That result belongs to the review’s tested games and conditions, not every game or current driver. Tom’s Hardware’s 1440p results show the launch-era testing.

How does it compare with the RX 6600 XT and RTX 3060?

The RX 6600 is the lower-performance option in this group in many tested scenarios. Tom’s Hardware’s October 2021 conclusion found it about 15% slower than the RX 6600 XT in most cases, while its 1440p testing put it about 9% behind the RTX 3060. These are review-era comparisons; results vary by game, resolution, settings and test system.

Comparison What the evidence indicates
RX 6600 vs. RX 6600 XT RX 6600 was about 15% slower in most cases in Tom’s Hardware’s October 2021 review.
RX 6600 vs. RTX 3060 RX 6600 was about 9% behind at 1440p in Tom’s Hardware’s October 2021 review.

The RX 6600’s practical strengths are its relatively low 132W typical board power and 8GB of VRAM. Its weaknesses are lower performance than those alternatives in many situations and weaker ray tracing in the review’s comparison. If ray tracing matters to you, compare performance in the specific games and settings you use; a conventional rasterized frame-rate result does not tell the whole story. Tom’s Hardware summed up the value question as “It All Depends on Street Prices and Availability.” Tom’s Hardware’s review conclusion discusses the trade-offs.

Power and system requirements

AMD specifies 132W typical board power and recommends a minimum 450W power supply. The product page also lists one 8-pin power connector. Treat 450W as AMD’s stated minimum recommendation, not a guarantee that every 450W PSU is suitable: the rest of the system, PSU quality, available connector and the exact card model matter. Check your PSU label and the card maker’s requirements before installation.

What is a fair price for an RX 6600?

There is no single fair price established by the launch-era evidence for today’s market. AMD’s $329 SEP was announced in 2021; it should not be quoted as the current going rate. Compare live local listings for new and used cards, then weigh the RX 6600 against similarly priced alternatives and their performance in the games and resolution you care about.

  • Confirm the listing is for the RX 6600, not the RX 6600 XT or another similarly named model.
  • Check whether the card is new or used, and review seller reputation, warranty and return terms.
  • Compare the actual total price and availability against competing GPUs in your region.
  • For a used card, account for its condition and the protection offered by the seller.

AMD named ASRock, ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI, PowerColor, SAPPHIRE, XFX and Yeston as board partners at launch. The exact cooler, clock specifications and noise characteristics depend on the particular partner model, so identify the listing’s full model name before comparing cards. AMD’s launch announcement names those partners.

How to judge the old benchmarks

The RX 6600’s specification page remains available from AMD, but the performance comparisons cited here come from October 2021 launch-era testing. They are useful for understanding the card’s original position, not a substitute for current, game-specific benchmarks. Driver releases, game updates and newer competitors can change the practical buying decision.

Tom’s Hardware tested an XFX Radeon RX 6600 Speedster SWFT 210. Other RX 6600 models can have different factory clocks, cooling and acoustics, so its results do not establish how every board-partner card sounds or performs. Tom’s Hardware’s RX 6600 review provides the review context.
