AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 23.12.1 introduced the Home and Gaming interface redesign that changed how Radeon users access HYPR-RX, game profiles and performance monitoring. It is a historical redesign release, not AMD’s latest driver: the latest release identified here is Adrenalin Edition 26.9.1 Optional, updated September 3, 2026.
The redesign added global or per-game HYPR-RX controls, game artwork, feature explanations, customizable metrics and the one-click HYPR-RX Eco power-saving suite. AMD’s release notes describe the features, but do not publish independent frame-rate, usability or power-consumption measurements.

What AMD changed in Adrenalin 23.12.1
AMD described the update as: “The Home and Gaming tab has undergone a UI redesign in this latest update of AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition.” The changes are documented in AMD’s Adrenalin Edition 23.12.1 release notes.
Home-tab HYPR-RX controls
HYPR-RX profiles can be enabled globally or assigned to individual games from the Home tab. Games shown there also display key art, making the game list more visual.

Explanations for individual features
In Gaming > Graphics, selecting an individual feature inside a HYPR-RX profile displays explanatory content about what that feature is intended to do and its potential benefits.
More control over performance metrics
The performance-metrics overlay became configurable. AMD lists controls for background and text colors, default metrics through profiles, and whether the overlay appears only while a game is open.
HYPR-RX Eco
HYPR-RX Eco debuted as a one-click suite intended to reduce power use. AMD initially listed support for Radeon 7000 Series products and RDNA 3. The 23.12.1 notes do not quantify a typical wattage or battery-life saving, so the feature should not be treated as a guaranteed percentage reduction.

Expanded OpenGL and scheduling support
AMD extended FRTC, Radeon Super Resolution, overlay, recording and streaming features to OpenGL games. Hardware-accelerated GPU scheduling was added for Radeon RX 7900, 7800 and 7700 GPUs on Windows 11 version 22H2 and newer.
23.12.1 versus AMD’s later 26.9.1 release
These versions serve different purposes: 23.12.1 is the release that introduced the redesign, while 26.9.1 Optional is a later, dated driver snapshot. AMD’s 26.9.1 release notes were last updated September 3, 2026.

A newer version is not automatically better for every system. Check the current known-issue list against your GPU, games and operating system before changing drivers.

Compatibility and device-specific cautions
Desktop Radeon hardware
The 23.12.1 notes list Radeon RX 7900/7800/7700/7600, 6900/6800, 6700/6600, 6500/6400, 5700/5600, 5500 and 5300 desktop families. Operating-system support can vary by product.

For 23.12.1, AMD lists Windows 11 version 21H2 or later and Windows 10 64-bit version 1809 or later. The 26.9.1 notes list Windows 11 version 21H2 or later and Windows 10 64-bit version 21H2 or later. Verify the live release page for your exact card before installing.
Notebooks and all-in-one PCs
AMD describes its notebook package as a reference driver with limited support for vendor-specific features. For a laptop or all-in-one, AMD recommends the computer maker’s driver because it is customized and validated for that system.

Handheld gaming devices
AMD says Adrenalin does not support handheld gaming devices. Use the handheld manufacturer’s support channel instead of installing the standard desktop package.

- Identify the exact Radeon GPU and whether the computer is a desktop, notebook, all-in-one or handheld.
- Open AMD’s current release notes and confirm that the product and Windows version are listed.
- Read the release’s known issues, especially if you rely on Smart Access Memory, Frame Generation, Anti-Lag 2, recording or streaming.
- For notebooks and all-in-ones, check the OEM support page first. For handhelds, follow the handheld maker’s instructions.
- Install the package intended for your hardware, then test the games and features you use most.
Rolling back when a new driver causes trouble
AMD’s later release notes recommend AMD Cleanup Utility when downgrading to a previous driver. Follow AMD’s current utility instructions and install the earlier package that matches your GPU and Windows version.
The 23.12.1 notes recorded a temporary precaution in which Factory Reset was disabled and Cleanup Utility was suggested instead. That was specific to that historical release and should not be assumed to describe current installer behavior.
What the redesign does—and does not—prove
- It does establish a new Home and Gaming organization for HYPR-RX, game profiles and metrics.
- It adds documented controls and explanations, rather than a published performance benchmark.
- HYPR-RX Eco is presented as a power-saving option, but AMD’s notes provide no universal savings figure.
- The redesign does not require buying a new graphics card; compatibility depends on the existing Radeon model, operating system and device manufacturer guidance.
