The reported $68 preorder saving is for a Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition bundle with a Kindle Click remote and bag—not a $68 discount on the standalone e-reader. Tom’s Guide reported the bundle at $386; Amazon lists the 32GB Colorsoft Signature Edition itself at $319.99. Treat the bundle price and availability as a snapshot, and verify the Amazon listing and checkout total before ordering.
What the reported $68 saving includes
Tom’s Guide reported the 2026 Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition bundled with a Kindle Click remote and a bag for $386, describing it as $68 off. Its article separately listed the Colorsoft Signature Edition device at $319. Amazon’s US launch price for the device is $319.99. The offer is therefore a bundle claim, not evidence that the standalone reader has been marked down by $68. The report does not establish the comparison price used for the saving, whether every buyer qualifies, or whether the offer remains available.

Which new Kindle is right for you?
Amazon announced a redesigned US Kindle family with a flush-front display and edge-to-edge device color. Amazon calls the display architecture a first for the e-reader category; that is the company’s characterization, not an independent comparison. Amazon’s launch prices and stated features are:
#1 Best Overall
- Read in color – The 7" Colorsoft display is high-contrast and easy on the eyes, with paper-like color that brings covers and content to life.
- A brand-new experience – The Kindle Colorsoft display is optimized for reading in color and is different from the Kindle Paperwhite display, which is optimized for black and white reading.
- Color your pages – Highlight your favorite scenes in yellow, orange, blue, and pink.
- Marathon reading – A single charge via USB-C lasts up to 8 weeks.
- Read in any light – Adjust the display from white to amber to read in bright sunlight or in the dark.
| Model | US launch price | Storage and distinguishing features |
|---|---|---|
| Kindle | $149.99 | 16GB; Ube or Graphite. Amazon says battery life is up to six weeks and books open 30% faster than on the previous release. |
| Kindle with aluminum back | $189.99 | 32GB; Alpine Sky Aluminum or Seaglass Green Aluminum. |
| Kindle Paperwhite | $199.99 | 16GB; waterproof, with adjustable warm light. Amazon says battery life is up to 12 weeks. |
| Kindle Paperwhite Signature Edition | $249.99 | 32GB; aluminum rear housing, auto-adjusting front light, pogo-pin dock charging and double-tap page turns. |

| Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition | $319.99 | 32GB; aluminum housing, auto-adjusting front light, double-tap page turns and pogo-pin dock charging. |
These are Amazon’s announced US prices and feature descriptions, not a live inventory check or independent battery and speed test. Amazon says Kids versions of Kindle, Paperwhite and Colorsoft include artist-designed covers and 12 months of Amazon Kids+; the Kids lineup starts at $179.99.
Choose by what you read and which extras you want
- Mostly text: The standard Paperwhite is the waterproof option with adjustable warm light. The standard Kindle is the lower-priced announced model.
- Comics, illustrated books or color-heavy travel guides: Colorsoft is the family’s color-screen option. The standard model has 16GB; the Signature Edition has 32GB and the listed Signature upgrades.
- Want the Signature extras: Compare the Paperwhite Signature and Colorsoft Signature by screen type and price. Both list auto-adjusting front light, pogo-pin dock charging and double-tap page turns; only Colorsoft has a color screen.

Tom’s Guide also reported these optional bundles. They are October 1 offer snapshots, not guaranteed current prices or proof that the saving will apply to every buyer.

Should you wait for Prime Big Deal Days?
Amazon scheduled Prime Big Deal Days for October 6–7, 2026, and said the event would include early deals on Amazon devices, Kindle-related promotions and an Essentials bundle. That announcement does not promise a discount on the new 2026 Kindle models. TechRadar reported on October 2 that the new US range had no discounts at that time and said future discounts were uncertain; its report also discussed discounted older models in the UK. Those older-generation UK offers are not evidence of a US discount on the new Kindles.
Rank #3
- Kindle Paperwhite – 7“ Paperwhite display with high contrast ratio and fast page turns.
- Ready for travel – The ultra-thin design has a larger glare-free screen so pages stay sharp no matter where you are.
- Escape into your books – Your Kindle doesn’t have social media, notifications, or other distracting apps.
- Battery life for your longest novel – A single charge via USB-C lasts up to 12 weeks.
- Read in any light – Adjust the display from white to amber to read in bright sunlight or in the dark.
If you are choosing between ordering now and waiting, compare the live bundle total against the exact model and accessories you want, then weigh that against your delivery timing. Do not assume a particular new model will be discounted during the event.
