Prices announced for the lineup run from $149.99 for the 16GB Kindle to $319.99 for the 32GB Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition. Each family has variants, and Kids versions are also available, so “three new Kindles” means three families—not just three individual models.
How the new Kindle lineup differs
The practical choice comes down to what matters most: a compact monochrome reader, waterproofing and warm light, or a color display. The prices below are U.S. list prices in Amazon’s October 1, 2026 announcement; stock and delivery timing can change.

Which new Kindle should you buy?
Choose the Kindle for compactness and a lower starting price
The 16GB Kindle is the straightforward choice if you mainly read text and want the least expensive entry into this lineup. It has a 6-inch monochrome screen. The $189.99 aluminum-back model doubles storage to 32GB; choose it for that added capacity or its different finish, rather than for color reading or Paperwhite’s listed waterproofing and warm light.
#1 Best Overall
- Light and compact - With adjustable brightness, high contrast ratio, and fast page turns.
- Effortless reading in any light - Read comfortably with a 6“ glare-free display, adjustable front light—now 25% brighter at max setting—and dark mode.
- Escape into your books - Tune out messages, emails, and social media with a distraction-free reading experience.
- Read for a while - Get up to 6 weeks of battery life on a single charge.
- Take your library with you – 16 GB storage holds thousands of books.
Choose Paperwhite for waterproofing and warm light
Paperwhite starts at $199.99 for 16GB and adds waterproofing and adjustable warm light. Amazon claims up to 12 weeks of battery life for this model. The $249.99 Signature Edition doubles storage to 32GB and adds an aluminum rear, auto-adjusting front light, pogo-pin dock charging, and double-tap page turning.
Choose Colorsoft if you read color content
Colorsoft starts at $289.99 and is aimed at readers of comics, graphic novels, illustrated books, and color covers. Its higher price buys a color display; it does not mean every ebook is available in color, nor does the announcement establish it as a replacement for a tablet. Colorsoft Signature Edition costs $319.99 and adds 32GB storage, aluminum housing, auto-adjusting front light, double-tap page turning, and pogo-pin dock charging.

What “Signature Edition” means in this lineup
Signature is not a single, identical feature bundle across every Kindle. In this refresh, both the Paperwhite and Colorsoft Signature editions have 32GB storage, aluminum housing, auto-adjusting front light, pogo-pin dock charging, and double-tap page turning. The standard Paperwhite and Colorsoft configurations have 16GB; compare the specific additions and price difference against how you read and charge.

1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteBattery, speed, and what has—and hasn’t—been independently tested
Battery and speed figures in Amazon’s announcement are manufacturer claims, not independent measurements. Amazon says the base Kindle lasts up to six weeks and opens books 30% faster than the previous release; for Paperwhite, it says up to 12 weeks. The sources available for this launch do not establish controlled battery-life or display comparisons across the models, so those figures should not be treated as guaranteed real-world results.
Rank #3
- Kindle Paperwhite – 7“ Paperwhite display with high contrast ratio and fast page turns.
- Ready for travel – The ultra-thin design has a larger glare-free screen so pages stay sharp no matter where you are.
- Escape into your books – Your Kindle doesn’t have social media, notifications, or other distracting apps.
- Battery life for your longest novel – A single charge via USB-C lasts up to 12 weeks.
- Read in any light – Adjust the display from white to amber to read in bright sunlight or in the dark.
Availability and launch timing
Amazon said the base Kindle and aluminum-back version were available immediately in the U.S. and other named regions. Paperwhite and Colorsoft were offered for preorder on a rolling basis in those regions. TechCrunch reported that preorder Paperwhite and Colorsoft devices were expected to arrive October 28, 2026; that was a reported launch expectation, not a guarantee for every order or location. Kids models and accessories
Kids versions
Amazon says the new Kindle, Paperwhite, and Colorsoft families have Kids versions with kid-friendly covers and 12 months of Amazon Kids+ included. The announced starting price for the Kids range is $179.99. The service inclusion is a 12-month introductory period, not a promise that the subscription remains free afterward.

Page-turn remote, covers, and dock
Amazon announced the Kindle Click Bluetooth page-turn remote at $34.99 and says it works with all new Kindle devices and Kindle models from 2024 or later. The $79.99 Page-Turn Cover and $59.99 charging dock are for Paperwhite Signature Edition and Colorsoft Signature Edition. Kindle covers start at $39.99. These are announced U.S. prices; confirm current availability and exact compatibility before buying.
What Amazon says about Kindle readership
In its 2026 launch announcement, Amazon said Kindle had seen “double-digit growth globally for three consecutive years” and that readers had read “more than 720 billion pages in 2025 alone.” These are Amazon’s company-reported figures, not independently verified market statistics.
