Neither Amazon Prime Day nor Black Friday is best for every product. For U.S. shoppers in 2026, Adobe forecasts Black Friday will be strongest for TVs, toys, apparel, appliances and furniture; Cyber Monday for electronics and computers; and Thanksgiving for sporting goods. Prime Day’s June event also delivered meaningful category discounts, but the best choice for a particular purchase depends on its own price history, competing offers and whether you can wait.
Which sale should you choose for your category?
Adobe’s September 2026 holiday forecast points to different best-buy days by category. These are forecasts for the coming U.S. holiday season, not confirmed outcomes.

These are forecast category peaks, not discounts guaranteed for every product. They also cannot establish that a particular item will be cheaper than it was during Prime Day.
What Prime Day’s observed discounts show
Adobe Digital Insights analyzed direct online transactions across more than 1 trillion visits to U.S. retail sites, 100 million SKUs and 18 product categories. For Amazon’s June 23–26, 2026 Prime Day event, it reported $26.4 billion in U.S. online retail spending and the following peak discounts off listed prices:

Those are observed event-wide category peaks, not a promise that every listing reached that discount or an all-time low. For the upcoming October 6–7, 2026 Prime Big Deal Days, Adobe forecasts $9.9 billion in U.S. spending and an overall peak discount of 19% off listed price; both figures are projections, not results.
Why event-wide spending totals are not a price comparison
Adobe recorded $32.4 billion in U.S. consumer spending across Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday in 2025, compared with $26.4 billion during the four-day June 2026 Prime Day event. These totals cover different years and different event windows, so they do not show which sale had better prices on the same products.

For context, Adobe reported that Black Friday 2025 generated $11.8 billion in U.S. online spending and that Thanksgiving through Cyber Monday generated $44.2 billion. Last holiday season’s peak listed-price discounts were 30.9% for electronics, 29.6% for toys, 25.1% for apparel, 24.3% for televisions, 23.4% for computers, 20.3% for sporting goods, 20.2% for appliances and 18.8% for furniture. Those are historical figures, not guarantees for 2026.

Check its price history, not just the discount badge
Amazon says eligible product pages provide up to 365 days of price-history information and describes deal and price alerts. Compare the offer with the item’s own earlier prices and with offers from other retailers. A discount against a listed price does not by itself establish that the current price is a historical low. Decide whether waiting is worth it
- If today’s price is already below your target and matches a good price in the item’s history, buying now can be sensible.
- If the purchase is flexible and Adobe’s forecast points to a stronger later sale for that category, waiting is reasonable. Keep watching the item’s price and availability rather than assuming the forecast guarantees a lower offer.
- Compare offers across retailers; a sale event’s name does not limit your options to Amazon.
Include membership access in the decision
Amazon identifies its U.S. Prime Day and Prime Big Deal Days offers as exclusive to Prime members. Whether a membership is worthwhile depends on its current cost, whether you can access the offers and how much you use other Prime benefits; there is no universal break-even point.
What “Prime Day” means in 2026
Amazon’s U.S. summer Prime Day ran June 23–26, 2026. The separate fall event is branded Prime Big Deal Days and is listed for October 6–7, 2026. Both events are for Prime members, and dates change by year. Amazon’s event information lists the 2026 dates and access terms. The figures in this article concern U.S. online retail; dates, membership rules and price patterns can differ in other countries.

The practical verdict
Use Black Friday as the forecast favorite for TVs, toys, apparel, appliances and furniture; Cyber Monday for electronics and computers; and Thanksgiving for sporting goods. Prime Day can still produce attractive category discounts, as its June 2026 results show. For your specific purchase, the item’s price history and the alternatives available from retailers are more reliable decision points than the sale label alone.
