The sale has ended. Popular Science reports it closed at 11:59 p.m. PT on October 7, so every price below is a figure that publications reported during the event, not a price you can count on today.
How this shortlist was built
This list draws on published deal roundups from Popular Science, WIRED, and Men’s Health, plus Apple’s product page for AirPods Pro 3. It is not based on hands-on listening or lab testing. Judgments about sound, noise cancellation, and comfort belong to the publications that made them, and they are attributed below. Where a figure comes from Apple’s page, it is a manufacturer specification, not a measured result.

Timing, and why a price can change between checks
- The window: Men’s Health reports the event ran October 6–7. Popular Science’s roundup, dated October 7 and updated that evening, says the sale ended at 11:59 p.m. PT.
- Member versus non-member prices: Popular Science says some of the prices it lists were Prime-member prices and some were not. Check which one a listing shows before comparing.
- Roundups disagree: Men’s Health’s listed prices sometimes differ from other roundups. Another roundup showed AirPods Pro 3 at $199 on Amazon and $179 at Best Buy, which is why a price only means something alongside a retailer and a check time.
- What is not established: The sources do not show whether any of these offers stayed live after October 7, or what they cost on October 8 or later.
The shortlist at a glance
Each row shows the price a named publication reported and the comparison figure it gave. The comparison figure is not always a manufacturer list price; the table says which is which where the source did.

Sony WH-1000XM5
This is the previous generation, sold at a much lower reported price. WIRED describes it as a discounted older model with strong noise cancellation and sound. It is worth considering if you do not need the newer model’s features. The sources do not compare the two Sony generations in a standardized way, so the decision rests on what you need from the headphones, not on a published score.
Bose QuietComfort Headphones (1st Gen)
WIRED describes this model as light and aimed at travel, with a wired connector and a hard-shell case. It is the lowest-priced over-ear option in the shortlist. The generation matters: this is a different product from the 2nd Gen Ultra model below, at a different price. Read the listing title carefully before you add it to a cart.

Bose QuietComfort Ultra Headphones (2nd Gen)
This is the premium Bose alternative, reported by Popular Science among the event’s offers. The sources do not establish it as the best choice for everyone. Weigh it against your priorities, such as whether you mostly listen at home or carry headphones on trips, and how the fit feels on your head.
Apple AirPods Pro 3
This is the only in-ear model here. Apple’s product page lists heart-rate sensing, an IP57 rating for dust, sweat, and water resistance, and hearing-health features. The page also gives up to 10 hours of listening time for Hearing Aid use with Transparency mode. That figure applies only to that mode and is not a general battery estimate for music or calls. Confirm the fit in your ears and that the earbuds work with the phone or laptop you use.

Beats Studio Pro
Popular Science reports this over-ear model at about half its stated list price. Because the roundups in this comparison were not consistent with each other, confirm the current listing and the seller before treating it as a deal.
Checklist before you click
- Confirm the exact model and generation in the listing title, since two Bose and two Sony models are close in name.
- Check the color or variant, which can carry a different price or availability.
- Check whether the price shown is a Prime-member price or a non-member price.
- Check the seller and the date you looked, and compare with at least one other retailer.
- Decide between over-ear and in-ear first, then check fit and comfort, ideally in person.
- Confirm compatibility with your phone, laptop, or other devices.
What these sources do not establish
The roundups and Apple’s page do not establish current inventory, the checkout price, the seller identity for any listing, return terms, warranty status, historical price lows, or standardized performance scores across these models. Treat any claim on those points as unverified until you confirm it on the listing and with the retailer.
