There is no evidence-based universal winner between these two 4K streaming sticks. Choose Roku if its included remote’s TV power, volume, and mute controls suit you; choose Fire TV if you want the Alexa and Fire TV feature set in the specific regional model you are buying. Both cited product descriptions list Dolby Vision and HDR10+, but the display and content must support those formats. Compare the exact generation, local price, and compatibility with your TV and audio setup before buying.
Which versions are being compared?
“Fire TV Stick 4K” can refer to more than one generation. This comparison uses Amazon’s Fire TV Stick 4K (2nd Gen, 2023), listed with 8 GB of storage, not the later Fire TV Stick 4K Plus or 4K Select. Amazon’s cited format and wireless claims below come from its May 2024 India launch announcement; confirm the specification of the regional SKU you intend to purchase.

For Roku, the comparison is the Roku Streaming Stick 4K. Roku’s product page identifies retail model 3820R2, while its developer hardware table uses hardware code 3820X2. These are identifiers from separate Roku listings, not interchangeable labels for a Fire TV device. The hardware table dates the 3820X2 release to 2022.
What are the key differences?
| Buyer question | Fire TV Stick 4K (2nd Gen, 2023) | Roku Streaming Stick 4K |
|---|---|---|
| Video formats | Amazon’s 2024 India announcement lists Dolby Vision and HDR10+ for the Fire TV Stick 4K described there. | Roku lists Dolby Vision and HDR10+; its hardware table for 3820X2 also lists HDR10/10+ and HLG. |
| Audio support | Amazon’s cited India announcement lists Dolby Atmos. | Roku lists Dolby-encoded audio pass-through and DTS Digital Surround pass-through. |
| Wireless | Amazon’s cited India announcement says Wi-Fi 6 and support for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands. | Roku advertises a long-range Wi-Fi receiver. Its product comparison lists Wi-Fi 6 for Roku Ultra, not the Streaming Stick 4K. |
| Remote | Amazon’s cited announcement describes Alexa voice commands; it does not establish the same TV-control details as Roku’s listing. | Roku says the included voice remote has TV power, volume, and mute buttons and works with most TVs. |
| Storage or memory figure | Amazon lists 8 GB of storage for the selected 2023 generation. | Roku’s 3820X2 hardware table lists 1 GB RAM. Storage is not stated in that table. |
| Price evidence | A current price for this exact generation was not established. | Roku’s US product page displayed $79.99 when checked; this is a time- and market-specific listing, not a universal or guaranteed current price. |
The Fire TV storage and Roku RAM figures measure different things, so they do not establish which device performs better. The source material is manufacturer-published, not a controlled comparison; it cannot support claims that one stick is faster, more reliable, or has better app performance.

Will a 4K streaming stick work with your TV?
Roku says an HDMI port is required. For 4K, Dolby Vision, or HDR10+ playback, the TV and the content must support the relevant resolution or format; Roku says output otherwise follows the TV’s capabilities. A 4K stick cannot make a non-4K television display 4K, nor can format support alone ensure a particular title streams in HDR.
Amazon’s cited announcement lists Dolby Vision and HDR10+ for the India product it describes, but does not provide an equivalent compatibility FAQ for the exact 2023 generation in every market. Check the specification for the regional model, your television, and the content service before relying on a particular format.

Does Roku support Dolby Vision, and what about audio?
Yes. Roku lists Dolby Vision and HDR10+, subject to compatible TV and content. Amazon’s cited India announcement also lists Dolby Vision and HDR10+ for its Fire TV Stick 4K. The formats are capabilities, not a guarantee that every screen or stream will use them.

The audio descriptions are not directly equivalent: Amazon’s cited announcement names Dolby Atmos, whereas Roku lists Dolby-encoded audio pass-through and DTS Digital Surround pass-through. Check the exact stick SKU and whether your TV, receiver, or soundbar supports the audio format you want. The cited feature lists do not establish identical audio behavior across the two devices.

Which stick makes more sense for your setup?
Choose Roku if its remote controls are useful to you
Roku explicitly says its included voice remote controls TV power, volume, and mute, and works with most TVs. If those buttons matter, that is a concrete feature to compare against the remote included with the Fire TV model sold in your market. Roku’s product page also highlights Dolby Vision, HDR10+, and a long-range Wi-Fi receiver.
Choose Fire TV if you want its Alexa and Fire TV features
Amazon’s cited India announcement describes Alexa voice commands and lists Dolby Vision, HDR10+, Dolby Atmos, and Wi-Fi 6. Treat those as claims for the product and market described in that announcement, not a blanket guarantee for every Fire TV Stick 4K generation or regional SKU. Amazon also said that model had nearly 30% more power than previous generations; that is Amazon’s marketing comparison, not an independent performance measurement.

Let your network and live price decide close calls
The Wi-Fi descriptions do not establish a speed winner. Amazon’s Wi-Fi 6 statement concerns its cited India model; Roku markets a long-range receiver and lists Wi-Fi 6 for Ultra in its comparison. Router support, placement, congestion, and broadband all affect streaming, and no controlled test here measures real-world throughput.
