The 2025 Fire TV Stick 4K Plus adds Wi-Fi 6E and doubles built-in storage to 16 GB, compared with Wi-Fi 6 and 8 GB on the Fire TV Stick 4K (2nd Gen, 2023). Both support 4K, Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and HLG, and Amazon lists the same processor for each. The Plus is a stronger fit on paper if you can use its 6 GHz Wi-Fi band or want more storage; its specifications alone do not establish faster streaming or menus.
What’s new in the Fire TV Stick 4K Plus?
Amazon’s current technical comparison table lists two main hardware differences between the 2025 Fire TV Stick 4K Plus and the Fire TV Stick 4K (2nd Gen, 2023): wireless capability and internal storage.

Amazon’s Fire TV release record lists the Plus in October 2025. The older model is specifically the second-generation 4K stick from 2023; “Fire TV Stick 4K” by itself can refer to different generations. Amazon’s release record and its device specifications identify the models and their listed hardware.

Wi-Fi 6E adds support for the 6 GHz band, which is the key wireless specification difference. To use that band, you need a compatible Wi-Fi 6E network; conditions and network setup also matter. If your router is dual-band Wi-Fi 6, the Plus’s 6 GHz capability does not apply to that connection. Amazon’s specification table does not establish that the Plus will stream faster, buffer less, or show snappier menus in a given home.

The Plus does not require a new router simply to connect to a home network. The possible benefit of 6 GHz is conditional: it matters if your network supports Wi-Fi 6E and your setup can make use of it.
Does the Plus improve picture quality?
Not by adding the listed headline formats: both sticks support 4K, Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and HLG according to Amazon’s comparison. To see a particular HDR format, the television and the content must support it too. The Plus’s name is not evidence of a new exclusive picture format.

Is the processor faster in the 4K Plus?
Amazon lists the same MediaTek MT8696D processor for both models. The comparison therefore does not support describing the Plus as a processor upgrade or claiming improved performance on that basis.

Which model should you choose?
Choose the Fire TV Stick 4K Plus (2025) if…
- You have, or plan to use, a compatible Wi-Fi 6E network and want the option of its 6 GHz band.
- You want 16 GB of listed internal storage rather than 8 GB. The specification comparison gives total capacity, not how much space is available to install apps.
The Fire TV Stick 4K (2nd Gen, 2023) may be enough if…
- Your network is dual-band Wi-Fi 6 and you do not expect to use 6 GHz.
- You mainly want the listed 4K and HDR formats, which overlap with the Plus.
Which is the better value depends on the prices available when you buy; the specifications do not settle that comparison. Amazon’s customer-help page says the 2023 model can use wired Ethernet with an Amazon Ethernet Adapter sold separately. Check the adapter’s compatibility and the current listing before purchasing. Amazon’s device-identification help page also contains Plus specifications that conflict with its current technical comparison table, so the comparison above uses the latter for the Plus’s Wi-Fi and storage figures.
