Amazon Fire TV Soundbar Pros and Cons: Which Model Is Worth Buying in 2026?

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Short answer: The original Amazon Fire TV Soundbar is a compact, inexpensive upgrade over weak TV speakers, but it is only a 2.0-channel bar with no Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, subwoofer, or physical rear speakers. The newer Fire TV Soundbar Plus adds Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, a 3.1 layout and optional subwoofer and surround-speaker bundles. Choose the original only at a genuinely low price for a small room; choose the Plus when movie immersion matters, and compare either model with similarly priced 5.1 or Atmos competitors.

First, identify the Fire TV soundbar model

Retailer listings can shorten or blur the names, so do not assume every product called “Fire TV Soundbar” has the Plus model’s features. Amazon documents the original bar separately, and Dolby lists the Plus configurations as distinct products.

Model Channel layout Dolby Atmos DTS:X External subwoofer Best suited to
Fire TV Soundbar 2.0 No No No Low-cost, compact TV-speaker upgrade
Fire TV Soundbar Plus 3.1 Yes Yes No (bass is built into the bar) Simple movie setup with newer format support
Plus with subwoofer Vendor bundle configuration; verify the listing Yes Yes Yes More bass without rear speakers
Plus with subwoofer and surround speakers Full bundled system Yes Yes Yes Most enveloping Amazon-branded setup

The original model’s supported formats include Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus, AAC, FLAC, MP3, PCM and Opus, according to Amazon’s specifications. Amazon’s support documentation distinguishes that 2-channel product from Fire TV soundbars that support DTS:X (Amazon support).

Pros of the original Fire TV Soundbar

It is noticeably better than many built-in TV speakers

The front-facing drivers can deliver higher volume, clearer speech and a fuller presentation than thin television speakers. Reviews from TechRadar and Digital Trends characterize its value as an inexpensive, basic improvement rather than a full cinema system.

Amazon Fire TV Soundbar, 2.0 speaker with DTS Virtual:X and Dolby Audio, Bluetooth connectivity
  • Amp up your audio - Fire TV Soundbar enhances TV audio with dual speakers for fuller sound, clearer dialogue, and deeper bass—all in a compact design.
  • Immersive sound - Enjoy a three-dimensional virtual surround sound experience with DTS Virtual:X and more detail with Dolby Audio.
  • Easy setup - Just plug in the included HDMI cable to the HDMI eARC/ARC port on your TV to instantly enjoy audio that's always in sync.
  • Compact design - With a length of 24“ and a height of just 2.5", Fire TV Soundbar fits most entertainment consoles and TV stands.
  • Stream audio with Bluetooth - Connect your phone or tablet via Bluetooth to fill the room with your favorite music.

Fire TV integration keeps daily use simple

With a compatible Fire TV television or streaming device, HDMI-CEC can let the Fire TV remote control power and volume. This is convenient, but it is not universal: TV settings, connection method and third-party devices can prevent one-remote control.

The compact bar fits small spaces

It is practical for a bedroom, apartment, secondary television or narrow media unit because it does not require a separate subwoofer, rear speakers or several additional power outlets.

Setup is less complicated than an AV receiver

A typical installation needs power and either HDMI ARC/eARC or optical audio, followed by optional Bluetooth pairing. There are fewer components and fewer calibration decisions than with separate speakers and a receiver.

Pros of the Fire TV Soundbar Plus

Dolby Atmos and DTS:X support

The Plus is the Amazon model to consider when those formats matter. Dolby describes the Fire TV Soundbar Plus and its subwoofer configuration as Atmos products, while RTINGS’ system review confirms Atmos and DTS:X support for the bundled subwoofer-and-surround-speaker system.

A 3.1 layout is more suitable for dialogue

The dedicated center-channel design gives the Plus a better starting point for dialogue separation than the original 2.0 bar. It can still be affected by the source mix, listening position and room acoustics, so it is not a guaranteed cure for every speech problem.

Bundles add the hardware the basic bar lacks

The Plus can be purchased with a subwoofer for stronger low-frequency impact, or with both a subwoofer and surround speakers for a more enveloping presentation. Those bundles add space, cables and setup work, but they address the original bar’s largest home-theater limitations.

Cons and limitations

The original model is not an Atmos soundbar

The original Fire TV Soundbar is a 2-channel product and does not support Dolby Atmos or DTS:X. Fire TV branding does not transfer the Plus model’s capabilities to the older bar.

A standalone bar cannot create true rear surround

Virtual surround processing may widen the image, but it is not equivalent to dedicated rear speakers. Results depend on room shape, wall reflections, seating position, content and volume.

Bass is limited without a subwoofer

The original bar has less movie rumble, music weight and physical impact than a system with a separate subwoofer. That is often acceptable in a bedroom or apartment, but it becomes obvious in action films, games and large rooms.

Amazon Fire TV Soundbar Plus with subwoofer and surround sound speakers (newest model), 5.1 channel, Dolby Atmos, clear dialogue

  • The ultimate home theater – Add a subwoofer and two surround speakers for an audio experience that feels just like being at the big screen.
  • Crystal clear dialogue – A dedicated center dialogue channel sharpens conversations so you can catch every moment of your favorite shows.

  • Easy setup – After you plug in your subwoofer and speakers to power, they connect to your soundbar for total surround sound.

Atmos decoding does not guarantee overhead effects

On the Plus, “supports Dolby Atmos” means the system can process compatible Atmos signals. Convincing height effects still depend on the bar’s processing, ceiling shape and height, seating distance, content and correct HDMI settings. A compact bar will not necessarily match a larger speaker system.

Connectivity is less flexible than premium alternatives

Check the exact listing for HDMI input count, ARC/eARC, optical input and Bluetooth. A television may not pass every format, and optical audio does not provide the same bandwidth as HDMI eARC. Amazon advises that a Fire TV source may need to connect directly to the soundbar when the TV’s audio path blocks Atmos or surround formats (Amazon troubleshooting guidance).

TV and source compatibility can be the real problem

  • Older televisions may offer ARC but not eARC or may not pass Dolby Digital Plus.
  • The TV can be left on internal speakers, PCM or an incompatible passthrough mode.
  • The streaming service and specific title must actually provide Atmos.
  • HDMI-CEC may be disabled, preventing remote volume control.
  • A bar hidden behind the TV or inside furniture can sound muffled.

Availability and naming are changing

As of August 2026, TechRadar’s market roundup says the original model is no longer on sale in the market it covers. That does not prove every U.S. retailer has stopped selling it. Check whether a listing is new, refurbished, used, imported or third-party, and confirm the exact model number.

Sound-quality expectations by use

Use case Original Fire TV Soundbar Fire TV Soundbar Plus
TV dialogue Clearer and louder than many TV speakers, but no dedicated center channel 3.1 design is a better fit for dialogue-focused viewing
Movies Front-focused sound with limited bass and immersion Atmos/DTS:X processing and optional expansion improve cinema impact
Music Convenient stereo playback, but modest bass and soundstage Fuller presentation, though not a substitute for a music-first stereo system
Large rooms Usually underpowered as a complete theater solution More capable; bundles are preferable when space and budget allow
Gaming Works for basic TV audio, but limited bass and connectivity More suitable when the console and TV can pass the desired formats

Fire TV connection and setup checklist

  1. Identify whether the bar is the original 2.0 model or a Plus configuration.
  2. Use HDMI ARC/eARC when available; verify the TV’s audio-output and passthrough settings.
  3. Enable HDMI-CEC if you want Fire TV remote power and volume control.
  4. For Atmos troubleshooting, connect the Fire TV device directly to the soundbar, as Amazon recommends.
  5. Set Fire TV audio to the best-available or compatible Dolby option shown on that device.
  6. Confirm that the app and title carry Atmos or surround audio.
  7. Run Fire TV’s Audio and Video Diagnostics if the format still does not appear.
  8. Power-cycle the TV, Fire TV device and soundbar after changing HDMI settings.

Menu labels vary by Fire TV model and software version, so use Amazon’s current Atmos and surround troubleshooting page for the exact on-screen path.

Which buyers should choose each option?

Choose the original Fire TV Soundbar when

  • The price is genuinely low compared with current 2.0 and 2.1 competitors.
  • You need a compact upgrade for a small or medium room.
  • Clearer dialogue and higher volume matter more than deep bass.
  • You already use Fire TV and value simple HDMI-CEC control.
  • You do not need Atmos, DTS:X, rear speakers or future expansion.

Choose the Fire TV Soundbar Plus when

  • You specifically want Dolby Atmos and DTS:X processing.
  • You watch movies in a living room and want stronger bass from an all-in-one bar.
  • You accept that compact-bar Atmos is not the same as a full theater system.
  • Fire TV integration is valuable enough to outweigh broader competitor choice.

Choose the Plus bundle with subwoofer and surrounds when

  • Immersion is more important than minimalism.
  • You have space and outlets for rear speakers and a subwoofer.
  • You want real low-frequency impact and physical rear-channel separation.
  • The bundle price is competitive with established 5.1 or Atmos systems.

Choose another brand when

  • You need several HDMI inputs, room correction, a mature multi-room app or long-term upgrade options.
  • You mainly listen to music and want stronger stereo performance.
  • You do not use Fire TV and therefore gain little from Amazon integration.
  • You want predictable rear-speaker expansion or a larger ecosystem.

Relevant categories to compare include Sony, Samsung, Bose, Roku and TCL. Compare current price, HDMI inputs, Atmos/DTS:X, subwoofer inclusion, rear-speaker expansion, app support and warranty rather than assuming any brand is universally better.

Price and value in 2026

Historical coverage put the original bar around $119, while 2025 coverage reported a $249.99 list price for the Plus and frequent discounts around $150–$200. Those are not current U.S. prices; verify the live listing on the day you buy. The original is compelling when it is far cheaper than Atmos-equipped alternatives. Near Plus pricing, compare other Atmos bars. Near full-system pricing, compare a bundle with a wireless subwoofer and rear speakers.

Use the exact product pages for the model you intend to buy: Fire TV Soundbar, Fire TV Soundbar Plus, Plus with subwoofer and Plus with subwoofer and surround speakers. Confirm seller, condition, region and included components before checkout.

Verdict

The original Amazon Fire TV Soundbar is worth considering as a cheap, compact solution for weak TV speakers, especially in a bedroom or apartment. It is not a future-proof home-theater purchase: no Atmos, no DTS:X, limited bass and no physical surround expansion. The Fire TV Soundbar Plus is the stronger Amazon choice for movie viewers because it adds 3.1-channel processing, Atmos and DTS:X, while the subwoofer-and-surround bundle offers the most immersion. At any price, check the exact model and compare the complete system with similarly priced competitors before buying.
